The next morning, I sluggishly dragged myself out of the bed. I have been having complicated dreams, but I wasn't sure of what it meant as it was always regarded with Ammi. However I tried my best in praying for her and giving Sadaqah(charity). I walked to the bathroom, took my bath and dressed into a blue shirt and jeans, wore my veil and walked downstairs.
"Aunty good morning". I greeted Aunty Asiya who was dressed up, ready to travel back to Kaduna.
She smiled. "Morning, you didn't come down for sahur(pre_breakfast, which was done when starting a fast)".
"Yeah, I just drank water and prayed". I answered, and sat beside her watching the Sheikh's preaching.
We watched for awhile before we heard a honk outside, and Ali opened the gate for Aunty's driver while Fauziyya came with their kits and went outside. Raliya and I both followed Aunty to the door to bade her goodbye.
"Aunty, greet the twins and Khalifah for me". I said.
"Sure, and take care of yourselves okay?".
"InshaAllah Aunty". I responded. She hugged me, walked to the car and waved at us as they
sped off."Raliya have you tell your mom about your admission?". I asked Raliya as we went back in.
"No I haven't, let me get my phone". She hurried to her room.
I sat at the living room scrolling through my Instagram as I scrolled to the last person I expected to see. Sadiq smiling right at me, wearing a lab_coat and a stethoscope round his neck on a different page that wasn't his, thus the picture was of him when he graduated.
He has been trying to talk to me, which he gets to contact me a year ago, sympathizing for Ammi's demise, which I appreciated, and that made us not to begrudgingly held to our detachment memories, but that was our last contact because I ended up changing my phone number.
I checked the date below, which was a day ago, with the caption of 'Throwback to one of our best medics' and that tend to remind me of our far gone dream that we will work at the same hospital, perhaps he had always been dreaming of being the best doctor while this caption indicated his dream fulfillment.
"Aunty her number isn't reaching". Raliya jolted me from my thought.
"Oh! Did you try calling Kawu Faruq?". I asked while she shook her head and just stood there, obviously not attempting to call him. "What is wrong?".
"Nothing, let me call him". She dialed his number.
"Hello kawu, Good morning". She paused. "I wanted to talk to mama but wasn't reaching". She sat down. "I uhmm.. got Admission to Base university, to study Nursing". She dolefully looked up at me, probably what he was saying wasn't pleasant.
She handed me the phone. "He wants to talk to you".
"Kawu faruq, good morning".
"Morning, is it true that she got admission?". He asked. Why would she lie about that in the first place?!
"Yeah is true, Raliya is very brilliant by the way, so she just proved it".
"Oh Okay". He simply said. Not an 'oh my god that's good of her!' or 'congratulations to her!'. "Alright I will tell her mom, can she come to Birnin yaro tomorrow?".
"What?!". I looked at her which she shrugged. I guess that was what he said to her earlier. "Uhh! They are actually starting the school registration after Ramadan, so I guess it will be better when she's done". I stated.
