I sniffed back my tears, clutching my hands, hence I never anticipated Khalil's mom to dislike me as she had no reason to, and would never had imagined that she would stoop to insulting my Ammi.

"Are you done with the acting? drama queen!". She gave me a side glance.

"I don't know what I did to..".

She snorted, cutting me off. "Ohh! You don't, do you? You don't know that you made my son married you instead of marrying the daughter in_law I've always dreamt".

"I never knew he had someone else and I never forced him to marry me, we get married just because we love each other". I wiped off my teary face.

"You wouldn't know that he had, I mean, have someone else beside you lady, because you have charmed him, and for your information, your marriage is very short termed because he will eventually come to his senses when he realizes he married the wrong person". She glared at me and stomped out of the room, whilst the interior designer gave me a pitiful look and followed her.

I leaned against the wall, regaining my balance, hence I've never thought of my first conversation with my mother in_law would be negative. Perhaps she had been cold to me but never had she stoop to being so offensive.

I gently walked out of the room with a heart ache as I heard the Adhaan(calling of prayers) and sauntered to my room. I changed my clothes, performed ablution and prayed my Maghreb prayer(4th obligatory prayer). I prayed, shuddering in my sujood(prostration), that Allah ease the chaos in my life, clear the negative hindrances and make my mother in_law change to her better self towards me.

I finished praying, wrapped the prayer mat and I heard a knock on my door. "Come in". I announced.

"Ma'am, do you want to eat your dinner now?". My maid asked entering the room.

"I will just wait for Khalil". She nodded and closed the door behind her.

I sat down, opened my laptop checking my work whilst on the cue, my phone rang. "Hello Raliya". I cocked out.

"Aunty, how are you?".

"I'm fine how is school and everyone?".

"They are all fine, we all missed you". She said.

Raliya informed me days ago that Salim met Kawu Faruq and they declared that if her and Salim are taking their relationship to the next step it will be after she graduated and it was heartening for me to see Kawu Faruq being there for her and accepting her relationship with Salim.

"I miss you too Raliya, where is Aunty Safiyya?". I asked and after some moment Aunty Safiyya was on the line.

"Ikhbal my dear, how are you?".

I leaned on the bed headboard. "Aunty I'm fine, how is Abba?".

"He is fine, how are you doing?".

"Alhamdulillah, I really miss you, Abba and Raliya". I said the last part silently.

"We miss you too, by the way why is your voice cocky, are you okay?". She asked.

I cleared my voice nervously. "Uhm! Its nothing Aunty".

"Alright, greet your husband, take care".

"InshaAllah, bye". I hung up and sighed.

I closed the laptop as I couldn't concentrate on my work again, laid on my bed, scrolling through my phone and fatigue engulfed me, drifting me into somber.

I stirred a bit and peeled my eyes to find myself tucked into the blanket not from my earlier position.
