Ikhbal's POV
I leaned on my bed and dropped my phone, as I just ended a call with Khalil, though he told me he would take a break from work and that likely came to my mind of taking a break at the hospital too, perhaps that will be less stress added to the wedding preparation.
A light knock on my door and before I could stand, the door swung open to Aunty Amina(Abba's elder sister) and I groaned. Aunty Amina has obligated herself with stuffing milk and some skin care concoction into my bath solely because that was what she claimed as the bridal tradition until the knot is tied and that wasn't for my liking, though my skin was literally rejuvenated, pampered and baby_like but I preferred my usual_normal bath.
"Good morning Aunty". I greeted.
"Morning our bride". She smiled, "I will just get your bath ready and your breakfast will be done by then". She entered the bathroom.
"Aunty I can make my breakfast myself and my bath..". I started when she came out of the bathroom.
"No complains Ikhbal, you are a bride and you need to be pampered". She smiled and left.
I brushed my teeth, bathed, wore a simple gown, and veil. I walked out of the closet meeting Aunty Safiyya entering the room with a tray of mouth watering breakfast.
"Good morning Aunty". I greeted.
She smiled and kept the tray. "Good morning habibti, did you sleep well?".
I nodded and engaged myself with the food. "Thank you for the breakfast". I sipped my coffee.
She smiled. "Your skin is really glowing". She complimented.
I nodded. "Yeah, I guess the skincare does work". I fixed my veil. "I will be going to the hospital today, I want to take a break before the wedding".
"Okay, that's good of you, I will ask your Abba to drive you".
I shook my head. "No, I will just drive with my car, I won't take much time". I assured and she nodded.
After eating my breakfast, I sauntered downstairs greeted the wedding visitors and relatives and informed Abba before I left. I strode to my car, hopped in, greeted Ali(gatekeeper) and sped off to the hospital.
"Our bride shouldn't be working you know". Zainab said as I entered the pharmacy.
I said sallam to her and sat down. "I'm here to take a break actually, Khalil said he's taking a break from his office and I thought of it too". I said slumping into my seat.
"That's a good idea and you can come back after your honeymoon". She smirked.
"Zainab!".
"Alright! Have you collected the permission form?".
"Yeah I have, I will just take it to Doctor Sadiq to sign for me".
"Alright then, good luck".
"Thanks". I smiled.

"So.. You are taking a break?". He asked fixing his reading glasses and signed on my form.
I shrugged. "I am..".
His phone ringing tone interrupting me. "Sorry let me just take this call, its my Aunt from Kaduna, she always calls to know how I'm coping without my mom".
I smiled. "Okay, I will take my leave, goodbye". Whilst he smiled back, placing his phone on his ear, I stood up and strode out, bade Zainab goodbye, promising me she will come for the henna party and I left.
I drove out of the hospital and was driving towards the traffic point at the freeway when my car started jacking and I hastily turned my steering and packed at the side of the road.
I tried igniting the car many times but no avail. I groaned and walked out of the car, opened my bonnet but was completely clueless of what to do. I walked back into the car, smuggled out my phone from my purse, purposely to call Khalil and before I could dial his number a black SUV parked closer to mine whilst I hopped out to meet with Sadiq.
"What happened to your car?". He asked standing beside me, searching for a problem on the bonnet.
I shrugged. "I have no idea, it just started jacking awhile ago".
He tapped the bonnet and asked me to ignite the car but to no avail, whilst he suggested he called his mechanic, which I reluctantly agreed. I took my purse, closed the car and I stood beside him as he searched the bonnet once more, suggested I follow his car whilst I nodded, before he closed it. He ushered me to his car, we hopped in and sped off.
"Why are you out of the hospital too?". I asked as I didn't expect to meet him on the way, for his shift wasn't over.
"My Aunt actually called that she's at the airport and I drove out to pick her". He glanced at me and turned to the road.
"Ohh! Greet her for me". I said.
"InshaAllah. By god grace". He smiled.
"You know, I'm always stunned how we ended up in the same hospital, I really thought I would never see you again". He said.
I shrugged. "That has to do with destiny".
"Yeah, I could remember our dream of working in the same hospital, then in school". He reminded.
I fidgeted with my hands. "That was past Sadiq". I forced out a smile.
He nodded. "That was past". He agreed.
I propped my face to the side window as no one said a word again and minutes after we arrived at my house. I hopped out of the car and he did the same standing a bit distant in front of me. "I will bring your car to you when the mechanic fix it".
"No you don't have to, you can ask the mechanic to bring it and I will pay him".
"What are colleagues for pharmacist Ikhbal?". He said grinning, knowing for sure he always uses 'friends_colleagues' to persuade me.
I reciprocated his smile. "Thank you Sadiq".
"Ikhbal?". A deep voice called out my name and I turned to see Khalil walking from his car toward us. "What are you doing out here?". He asked while I frowned a bit at his question and he turned to Sadiq. "And who are you?". He creased his eyebrow.
"Khalil this is Doctor Sadiq, Sadiq this is my fiancé Khalil".
"Fiancé? You are getting married?". Sadiq asked as his eyes widened whilst I nodded, his face saddened and his shoulders slumped.
"Sadiq, your Ex?". Khalil asked looking at me skeptically.
How the heck did he know of Sadiq as my Ex?!!
"Khalil how do you know? besides he's not anymore, he is just my colleague".
"What is he doing here?". He looked at me questionably. "Are you back with him?". He asked.
I stiffed for a moment, before what he said registered into my head. "No you didn't just say that Khalil".
"Can you just answer me!". He said louder than he ever did and a wave of regret washed over his face.
"Don't you dare raise your voice at me and you know I will never in my life cheat on you, I never think you will stoop to distrusting me Khalil!". I felt a lump in my throat.
Khalil lowered his head, rubbing his nape. "I'm sorry, I didn't know what get over me today, I'm so sor...".
I wiped off my already cascaded tears and hastily walked off to the house before he continued. I rushed to my room, locked it behind me after I informed Aunty Safiyya I was having a headache as not to be disturbed. I slumped down against the door and sat on the floor, hugged my knees to my chest and cried myself out, hence Khalil never talked to me abruptly talk less of raising his voice, albeit my main heart ache was how he stoop to distrusting me when all I ever compelled my heart was to trust him which I wasn't certain if he deserved it.
