A few days had passed before we got word on the case.

I'd begun to think the worst.

"What if they are all dead and she is abandoned?" I worried.

"Ssh," Adonis hushed away all of my negative thoughts as he pulled me closer to him.

His scent was overpowering. I meant that in a way that if we were not fully dressed and responsible adults, I would have jumped him.

We were watching a terrible soap opera when Stefano called us and told us to prepare to pack.

"How long will we be there?" I asked him.

"I do not know, Stella. I do know that I will be with you every step. He will not be left alone with you."

I nodded against his chest. "Thank you, Adonis," I mumbled softly.

"Mmhm," he hummed.

His rubbing my arm that was wrapped around his waist was what put me to sleep.

"Mamma, guard cosa ho colorato per te!"

"Lo vedo, piccola."

I picked up another white sheet and started coloring.

"La mamma tornera, ok?"

"Ok, mamma."

"Per favore, non portarmela via," I begged.

He grabbed her and pushed me onto the floor as he walked by.

"Per favore."

"Stella."

"Non puoi farlo."

His irritated face turned to me as he smirked. "I already have."

"ESTELLA!"

I sat up as my eyes flew open.

"Stavi avendo un incubo," I heard Adonis's voice.

(Translation: You were having a nightmare.)

I looked at the digital clock on his nightstand. It was past midnight. I only slept for two hours.

"No, I was not," I denied, throwing the blanket off of me.

I got out of bed and ruffled my hair.

"Where are you going?" he asked me.

"Water," was my short reply.

I went down to the kitchen and grabbed a bottle of water from the pantry.

I only dreamed of Eva when I was scared. I was worried about Daniel and his family. They were either hiding, or something serious happened to them. Where would that leave my child? I could not bear the thought of her being thrown into the system like her mother.

I was snapped out of my thoughts when I felt Adonis's hands on my shoulders.

I braced myself against the sink since my back was to him.

"I did not mean to scare you," he said in a low tone. I felt butterflies in my stomach from the sound of his voice.

"You did not scare me," I said while turning around.

He placed his hands against the sink, trapping me. "Tell me what is wrong."

I rolled my eyes. "One nightmare and you think something is wrong with me?"
