"Mamma, I like this one!"
I turned around to see Eva pointing to a blue shirt with a unicorn in the middle of it. I walked over to her and picked the shirt up. "Is this the one you want?"
She grinned at me as she nodded her head.
I chuckled and threw the shirt into the basket of clothes.
Adonis gave me his card and told me to take Eva shopping. Since this was Eva we were talking about, he ignored me the entire time I argued with him. When I realized it was pointless with him, I stopped talking.
He promised to take me to Calabria to retrieve the money I hid at Gio's house and in my old trailer. I could only hope no one had stumbled on my property and stolen it. I was also wishing Gio hadn't found my money.
"Did you like unicorns when you were little, mamma?" she asked me.
I grimaced when I thought about my childhood. I had no time to think about unicorns and rainbows.
"I did," I answered with a small smile.
She smiled in content and skipped down the aisles. I watched as she glided past each piece of clothing. She was graceful with her steps and was very observant about her surroundings.
Once she was satisfied with the number of things I bought, we decided to find something to eat.
"Where are we eating Eva?" I asked her as we navigated our way through the people traffic.
"Ice cream," she cheered. Her grip tightened around my hand as she jumped up and down in excitement.
"We need to eat actual food first, mi amore," I said with a laugh. I looked down to see her pouting.
"I want spaghetti," she finally said when I didn't stand down.
I gasped in false surprise. "Are you a mind reader?" I asked her.
"Of course not, mamma!" she exclaimed with a little giggle.
I felt my phone vibrating in my back pocket. "Dammi un second," I mumbled as I grabbed my phone.
"Ciao, Adonis. I am busy," I answered as Eva tugged my arm towards a restaurant.
I followed her as I maneuvered her bags that were hanging on my arms and shoulders.
"Stai bene con quei jeans," I heard his voice through the speaker.
I froze in my spot and looked around the huge mall. There were people everywhere, so I could not spot him.
"Where are you?" I asked instead of blushing like an idiot.
"ADONIS!"
Suddenly, I was being dragged across the mall by a seven-year-old ballerina.
"Eva, slow down," I demanded as we worked our way through crowds of people. She let go of my hand and was running full speed ahead of me.
I could barely see her, and soon she was lost behind several people.
"Eva!" I shouted while pushing people out of my way.
I heard her giggle.
Adonis came into view, and I saw him bending over. When she climbed on his back, he stood straight.
He was wearing black slacks and a black button-down shirt. His tie was a darker shade of black. Since it was made from a different fabric, it stood out against his shirt. He wore the same Bulgari watch on his wrist from the day I met him.
