The monks have always told Aang that "when you find your soulmate, you are as the greatest of lovers and the greatest of soldiers, for you must vow to fight for love all the rest of your days or until love has won the peace. Your soulmate will love you, live for you and even die for you, yet knowing that their death will be yours too... for once the bond is made it is eternal... and that is the grand prize, the most this universe has to offer... time with someone who loves you and either a paradise to live in or the right to fight for it."
Love? Soulmate? Aang had absolutely no idea what that looked nor felt like.
Not until he came upon Princess Katara.
Falling in love with her was the easy part; it's admitting to himself that it happened that it's hard. Love is more powerful and much more overwhelming than when he was a simple Air Nomad. He couldn't give up on something he cared about. He would never let the person he once loved with everything he had and more - become just a memory.
But to be with her, he had to encounter his opponents as well.
"No matter who we fall in love with, we all die alone"
In a blink of an eye, Katara finds herself in a tough situation, torn between leading her kingdom and fighting her life for her kingdom.
But when Katara becomes interested in air nomad Aang, her life takes a dramatic change for the worse and better. Katara finds problems when the Fire Nation attacks her kingdom, putting at risk the lives of her people and everything else she cared for.
Avatar Aang vows to end this war at all costs.
Of course, Katara vowed she wouldn't leave his side either.
"Then we'll die together"
The journey lay before her, the other end is peace, real happiness is for everyone, and Katara got to keep going even if the path makes her fall. But the path wends onwards and there was much journeying ahead. But whatever comes, she'll keep going until everybody she loves will be safe from any threat. Even if it'll take a sacrifice.
