"Aang?"

Princess Katara was at a loss of words. Despite her bruises, she made an effort to take tiny steps closer to him. "Aang, is that you?"

Avatar Aang's back was facing her. He didn't understand how to feel to hear her soft beautiful voice again. Aang wishes to pull her into his arms and never let Katara go, he'd whisper sweet words of passion into her ear and vow to her he would never leave her again.

"Aang." Katara whispers with tearful eyes.

And yet, all Aang felt was outrage. Aang was battling to even confront Katara at that instant. She looks so hurt and it hit him awfully hard. It hit him the fact how much he can't tolerate seeing Katara suffer.

He tightens his jaw and grinds his teeth, eyes glowing from fury.

"What're you doing fighting Ozai on your own?" He speaks. "You know how dangerous that could've been?!"

Katara stops her tracks and observes the scar on Aang's back, she examines its position, its size and its pattern. Katara wonders what could perhaps be going through his mind that got him so quiet.

She takes silent steps and extends her hand out to his back. Gently, she goes over Aang's scar with her fingers. It catches Aang by surprise but he shortly loosens up when he recognises it was just Katara.

Katara cries. "I thought I lost you forever."

When Aang ultimately spun to face her, unable to resist looking into her eyes any longer, Katara understood why he couldn't speak to her, for his eyes were full of tears too. In a split second, Katara forgets about their situation when her face falls into a visage of concern.

Katara would have thrown herself into his arm but she couldn't. After so long without him she thinks she'll die if he leaves now. She needed him, Katara hoped he needed her. When she tries to speak her voice falters into unintelligible croaks, she wants to tell him she loves him but doesn't think Aang will believe her and Katara is afraid it will sound hollow.

Maybe he's disappointed in her, for being reckless regardless of her condition, it wasn't her fault she believed Aang was dead. Aang doesn't know she never gave up hope he'd return, nor the fact she yearned to avenge his death at the cost of her life.

Katara moves closer to touch him, his silver eyes remain the same, still that vulnerable boy she first met at the seashore behind the castle – the one who everyone admired and followed like he had pockets of sugar.
