Meredith was asleep, again. The girls were asleep next to her

Derek watched his three girls and had difficulties not completely breaking down

"Hey, is she asleep?" Derek recognised Addison's voice

"Yeah.. She was exhausted. The girls kept talking" Derek chuckled slightly

Addison softly rubbed Derek's back before she took a seat on one of the remaining seats

"Did they talk about her ovaries yet?" Addison asked

"No" Derek forced out "They said they wanted to try chemo first. They will probably start tomorrow with radiating her spine. It will be hell" Derek sighed

"She doesn't deserve this" Addison muttered

"Not at all" Derek sighed and gently squeezed Meredith's hand as she stirred a bit

...

"Ava, what do you want for dinner?" Derek asked

The little girl was debating between pizza like her mother and younger sister or being a healthy freak like her father

"Can I have both?" Ava giggled

"Let her eat from our pizzas. There's no way we'll be able to finish that, I'm not hungry at all" Meredith said and Derek nodded

He wanted to try pizza because she had been refusing all the other foods. She tried but felt sick after or had a lot of stomach pain

"Okay. Anyone who wants to come with me?" He asked the girls but got no response. "I get it" He chuckled "You wanna stay with mommy"

"Yes" Ava giggled

"Mom and dad are at the airport picking up Amy" Derek said

"I don't know if I can tell her" Meredith admitted

"We can do it together" Derek kissed Meredith's forehead before leaving the room

"Okay girls. Any idea of what we'll do to keep ourselves busy until daddy's back?" Meredith asked

"Can we watch a movie?" Ava asked

"Of course" Meredith smiled and grabbed the Tablet that was resting on her lap. She opened Netflix and they picked a movie together

It took a bit for Derek to get the food and return. He picked up some different things for Meredith in case the pizza would be too greasy

"Knock knock" Derek smiled as he walked in the room

"Daddy" The girls giggled in Meredith's arms who fell asleep during the movie

"Hi Mer" He softly woke her up

"Hi" She whispered "You're back"

"Yeah. I saw people constantly passing by." Derek said as he noticed their friends walking in and out of the room or walking past it. "Are you good for dinner?" He asked as he lifted up the headrest of the bed

"Yeah" She breathed

Derek placed the food on the tray and helped the girls to grab a slice of pizza. Meredith picked one too and started eating. Halfway through the slice she stopped eating and placed it back

"Are you already done?" Derek frowned

"Yeah" Meredith said but didn't tell him about the pain in her stomach. She rested her head against the pillows and slightly closed her eyes 

"Mommy, don't sleep" Emma whined

"Em, mommy's tired" Derek quickly said but Meredith opened her eyes anyway

"I'm sorry baby" Meredith rubbed Emma's back "Continue your pizza, honey"

"Can I have a bit of your salad?" Ava asked Derek who gave in

"Mer, we have some dry pasta for you if you want" Derek said softly

"No, it's okay" She whispered

"Em, we need to let mommy sleep a bit" Derek frowned as he saw his wife struggling to keep her eyes open

"No!" Emma said sternly

"Emma, it's okay" Meredith rubbed the tiny girl's arm

"But mommy's sick so she needs a lot of cuddles" Ava spoke up

"That's right, Ava" Derek smiled softly "You two finish dinner while mommy takes a quick nap, okay?" Derek suggested

"It's -kay" Meredith mumbled as she tried to stay awake

"Mer, you had surgery yesterday, you start radiation tomorrow and chemo is coming soon. Just rest a bit, I promise they will cuddle with you" He smiled softly

"Mommy loves you" She mumbled to her kids

"I love you too mommy" Ava giggled and kissed her mother's cheek

"Me too!" Emla giggled and kissed Meredith's other cheek with her lips full of sauce which made Derek chuckle and clean up Meredith's cheek

"Okay girls, dinner first" He laughed and kept watching Meredith as her chest was going up and down, assuring him her heart was still beating and her lungs still filled with air

The evening went by quickly. The girls were asleep before he even realized. He was half asleep on one of the chairs next to her bed when he heard someone gasp

"Mer!"

When Derek turned around, he noticed his younger sister standing in the doorway. Her hands in front of her mouth as tears started streaming down her face

"W-What happened?" Amelia turned around to ask her parents

"Amy, her cancer is back" Derek walked up to his sister and held her in his arms as she started sobbing

"But- and the girl? This- This isn't fair!" Amelia cried

"We know" Derek rubbed his sister's back

"Mommy" Emma started stirring. Derek quickly let go of Amelia, moved to Emma and brushed his hand over her blonde curls

"It's okay, baby. Just go back to sleep" He kissed her forehead and smiled when he heard her soft snores

"She looks so much like Meredith" Carolyn commented as she kept rubbing Amy's back who was calmed down by now

"She does" Derek agreed and looked at his 3 girls snuggled together in the hospital bed
