The sun started to shine into Meredith's hospital room. They had an awful night. Every time Meredith woke up, she had to vomit which caused Derek to wake up and help her. Derek woke up during rounds. They were at least decent enough to let Meredith sleep

He wasn't listening to what those doctors said. He knew her chart by heart. He looked at his wife and felt awful for her. She had such a rough night, she cried out in pain when she had to try and eat something, which was probably caused by the cancer in her stomach

He kept watching her for another hour when she finally opened her eyes. Derek smiled that she didn't have to vomit right away

"Hey sleepyhead" He said as he kissed her head. She wrapped her arm tighter around him and squeezed him closer "How are you feeling?"

"Fine" She mumbled

"Hmm"

"I'm really okay" She sighed "I just wanna go home" Meredith whispered

"I know" Derek kissed her lips

"I- Oh" She grabbed her stomach

Derek quickly grabbed a bucket in case she would need it to vomit

"It hurts" She whispered "So bad"

"Let me page Bailey" Derek grabbed her hand

"Grey, Shepherd?" Miranda ran in a few minutes later

"She's been complaining about pain in her stomach" Derek told her

"Meredith, how bad is it?" Bailey asked

"An eight" Meredith forced out and kept crying "It hurts, it hurts so bad" Meredith sobbed

"Okay sweetie, I'll administer some more pain meds" Bailey said and did so. She quickly injected some meds into Meredith's IV "I'll grab an ultrasound machine to make sure there's not bleeding" Bailey nodded and left the room, only to return a few minutes later with the ultrasound machine to check for any bleedings

Meredith winced as Bailey moved it over her stomach

"I know it hurts, sweetie. I'm really sorry" She whispered

Derek tightly held onto Meredith's hand and kept stroking his hand over her cheeks to wipe them away

"Okay, there's no bleeding, that's good" Bailey ended the examination

"So we don't have to worry?" Derek asked

"No. She's okay, Shepherd. This is the tumor, I'm so sorry sweetie" Bailey rubbed Meredith's thigh

"I wanna go home" Meredith whispered

"I know. We've been talking about letting you go home" Bailey sighed "We're gonna discharge you this afternoon but there are rules. And we want the results of your blood labs first" Bailey said sternly

Meredith finally smiled a bit and looked into Derek's eyes. She saw he was scared, she noticed he was internally fighting with himself, of course he wanted her home but he was scared and was doubting if he would have enough time to help Meredith but also watch the girls

"Derek, is that okay for you?" Meredith asked him honestly

"Of-Ofcourse" He nodded firmly

"Your mom said she would help you out" Bailey noticed his distress and calmed him down

"Sounds like mom" Meredith chuckled softly but winced and clutched her stomach again "No laughing" She muttered

"No laughing" Derek rubbed her arm softly "Do we have to come in every day?"

"Mainly, yes. Daily for radiation, although that won't be long anymore and chemo twice a week for now" Bailey sighed

"Okay" Derek nodded

"Your parents were in the cafeteria, should I send them here?" Bailey asked

"With the girls?" Meredith's eyes widened

"Pretty sure your two princesses were with them" Bailey smiled

"Yes please" Meredith breathed and relaxed in Derek's arms

"They will be here in a bit. Rest, Meredith" Bailey said sternly and left

"Are you sure you're okay with me coming back home?" Meredith asked Derek

"Of course. Amy Is in Seattle, Mark and Addison are around, mom and dad are around" Derek nodded "I want you home" He kissed her forehead

"I wanna be home with you and the girls" Meredith leaned closer into Derek's touch but they got disturbed when they heard two girls giggling

"I can hear them already" Derek laughed

"At least they seem to be doing okay despite everything" Meredith sighed

"Of course, they just want their mommy to feel better" Derek kissed her forehead

"Mommy, daddy!" Ava gasped as she ran in first, closely followed by Emma

"Hey munchkins" Derek smiled and moved to get out of bed

"Don't move, I'll place them on the bed" Mark smiled "You stay with your wife"

"Mommy! I missed you!" Emma hugged her mom tightly, accidentally bumping against her stomach

"Gently with mommy" Derek said as he saw Meredith's face expression changing

"Mommy!" Ava giggled

"Hi girls" Meredith smiled and cuddled them close as she was resting on Derek's chest. Her eyes ready starting to droop

"Mommy, don't sleep" Ava frowned

"Mommy needs to sleep Ava" Derek whispered "Mommy needs a lot of sleep to get better"

"Mommy still sick?" Emma frowned

"Mommy's still sick. I told you it would take a while"

"But it's been so long already!" Emma whined

"Oh baby" Derek's voice cracked

"I heard she can come home" His mom softly said

"Yeah.." He sighed

"Mommy can come home?" Ava's eyes widened

"Really?" Emma gasped

"Mommy will come home with us later today" Derek kissed their heads

"Your father and I can help out" Carolyn offered

"Addie and I as well. And Amy said she'll help too" Mark told them

"Thanks guys" Derek sighed

"We're family. That's what we do" Carolyn kissed Derek's forehead

"She'll have radiation every day and chemo two days a week" Derek explained

"Are you staying at your house?" Carolyn questioned

"I don't think she'll wanna move out" Derek told his mom

"She's pretty stubborn" Christopher laughed

"She is" Derek agreed "We'll take the mainland route, I just wanna take her home and sleep in our bed. She'll feel much better in her own house with her own bed surrounded by the kids"

"She will" Carolyn nodded with a soft smile

"You can always stay in the guest room if you would like" Derek told his parents "But we'll be fine" He nodded firmly

"We'll see. We'll help out where we can" Carolyn held Derek's hand as she looked at Meredith. She was praying that everything would be okay

I'm sorry. I got my covid booster yesterday and I feel tired and have a headache though it can also be because I barely sleep :p I hope y'all enjoyed this chapter!
