Derek had spent the night at home with the girls. Meredith had insisted on it. Amelia and Addison had taken shifts to stay with Meredith

When Derek and the girls arrived at the hospital, Meredith was still asleep. The girls were quiet, unusually quiet

"I want mommy to get better" Emma whispered

"Me too, Em. So we have to take really good care of mommy. Try to help her as much as we can, okay?" Derek lowered himself to their level before walking in the room

"Hey, she's been okay. Slept a lot and they positioned her against the pillows. The burning is bad but they numbed it" Amelia explained

"Thanks Amy" Derek pulled his sister in for a hug

"I'm going home now if that's okay. I might stop by before my next shift" She told him

"Good. Mom and dad are picking up the girls before Meredith's first chemo. They will spend the night at their house so I can stay here" Derek explained

"Wish her the best of luck" Amelia sighed. She hated seeing Meredith like this

"Can we wake mommy up with kisses?" Ava asked as she pulled at Derek's hand

"I think you can" Derek smiled softly "Let me lift you on the bed" Derek said softly and helped both girls to lay next to Meredith "Remember to be very gentle"

The girls started giggling as they gave soft kisses on Meredith's cheek. Their mom slowly woke up

"Hi" She whispered softly as she smiled at her two girls, one on each side

"Mommy!" They giggled and carefully hugged her

"Hey. This was the best way to wake up" She giggled before Derek kissed her lips

"Hey you" He smiled

"Hey. I missed you" Meredith admitted

"I missed you too. Hopefully I can bring you home tomorrow or the day after" Derek brushed his hand over her's

"Yes! Mommy, you're coming back home" Ava smiled

"Were you good for daddy?" She asked the girls

Ava nodded but Emma started looking away

"Em?" Meredith frowned

"It's okay, monkey. Mommy will understand" Derek assured her it would be okay to explain

"I slept in you and daddy's bed" She quietly admitted

"She couldn't fall asleep and she was a bit scared so she kept your side of the bed warm" Derek winked "And Ava joined us this morning before we had a tickle fight"

Meredith's heart was aching to be home and have tickle parties, even if. She knew those would happen very poorly in the close future due to her diagnosis, due to her illness

...

Meredith's doctors, who were also close friends, all passed by and made her ready to start the chemo. Miranda had made sure she would be the one to start Meredith's first session, together with Addison

"I need you back, Meredith. With all respect for Levi, he isn't the best to take over the spot as chief of general" Miranda scoffed

"As soon as possible," Meredith quietly said. She closed her eyes and held tight onto Derek's hand as the chemo started dripping into her body. It was as if she could feel it streaming through her body, killing every cell on it's way

"Okay Mer. You're hooked up to the chemo" Addison announced "Do you want anything now that you still feel relatively okay?"

"I wanna be healthy but I guess you can't arrange that" Meredith sighed

"Not immediately but I assure you that I'll do everything in my power, Mer" Addison hugged Meredith softly "Page me if anything's up"

Derek nodded and watched Addison leave the room. They opted for chemo in her own room due to the pain from the burnings on her back

"Try to sleep" Derek kissed her neck

"Yeah" Meredith breathed and almost immediately fell asleep

...

"Okay Mer, it's okay. Bailey is getting you something" Derek said as he rubbed Meredith's back softly as she kept vomiting. Addison was holding the bucket while Meredith kept throwing up

Meredith's face was wet, tears, sweat and even a bit of vomit but nothing could describe how awful she felt and she knew it would get worse, she wasn't even close to having a hard time yet

But giving up was no option, she had to get better for Derek and their girls. She needed to survive to be the mom her daughters needed, to be the wife to keep her husband sane

"Mer? Meredith!" Derek snapped his fingers

"Oh-I" Meredith breathed

"Shh, it's okay. You were gone for a minute" Derek kissed her forehead

"It hurts," Meredith complained. Right at that moment, Bailey ran back inside and injected the meds into Meredith's port

"This will make you feel better in a bit" Bailey said as she rubbed Meredith's legs

"I hope" Meredith whimpered

"We already adjusted more pain meds, we'll need to see how much effect they'll have" Addison spoke up

"Hmm" Meredith groaned

"I got her, it's okay" Derek nodded

"I-" Meredith wanted to talk

"It's okay Mer. Close your eyes, I'm staying" Derek pushed her hair back

"I'll plait it really quick" Addison grabbed Meredith's said and softly plaited it together

"I want my girls" Meredith groaned

"Tomorrow, Mer" Derek kissed her forehead but she groaned. She was having a hard time missing so much of the girls

"Okay" Meredith finally agreed

"Have you called Cristina yet?" Derek asked but got no response "Mer?"

"N-No.." Meredith whispered

"Do you wanna call her tomorrow?" He asked her softly

"M-Maybe?" She groaned before she started gagging again

"You should call her" Derek told her

"I wanna see the girls" Meredith whispered

"I know. Soon enough" Derek kissed her forehead and watched her as she closed her eyes

Dont we love 2022 already. Apparently ripped some muscle in my foot :p if im not too sick from my booster,  i'll try to update another story tonight
