"Mer, do you wanna try to eat something as well?" Derek asked

"Maybe some bread" She nodded and gave him a small smile

"Okay" Derek smiled back. He was happy she felt up to try and eat a tiny bit of food so her stomach could maybe get used to it again

"Maybe we should get inside, it's getting a bit chilly" Carolyn frowned and looked at Meredith who was covered with blankets but still seemed to be cold

"That would be for the best" Addison nodded and the two woman started carrying the plates and stuff inside while Christopher was putting the food he was grilling onto a plate to serve

"Let's go inside" Mark scooped up Meredith in his arms and carried her inside "I'm so happy you're still here Mer"

"Markie" She breathed and leaned her head against his chest "Thanks"

"Here, this will be much better" Mark sat her down on one of the chairs inside the house, close to the fireplace

"Yeah" Meredith nodded, close to falling asleep

"Do you wanna take a small nap first?" Mark asked her as he noticed

"No. It's okay" She nodded

Mark kissed her forehead, adjusted the blankets and took a seat on one of the other chairs

"Some bread" Derek placed some on Meredith's plate as Christopher started serving the food

"It looks great!" Addison exclaimed as she saw the overfilled plate

"Wow!" The two girls gasped and smiled as they saw their favourite food

...

Meredith was still picking at the bread. She had taken one bite already and almost felt it slipping down her body, making her stomach turn

"Are you okay?" Derek asked, placing his hand on her thigh, as he saw how his wife had been starting at the bread for the past 15 minutes while everyone else was talking

"Uhu" She nodded

"Do you want to try a bit more?" Derek rubbed her back softly but she shook her head "Mer, we need to get your stomach adjusted to tiny bits of food" He softly said

"As if I don't know that!" She sighed and weakly pulled away

"Shall I attach your feeding tube?" Christopher quickly stood up

"It's okay. I'll do it at home" Meredith quietly replied

"Honey-" Carolyn sighed, knowing Meredith needed the food desperately

"Fine" Meredith muttered and closed her eyes as tears started pooling in her eyes

"Sorry" Derek grabbed her hand and squeezed it while looking at his daughters who had fallen quiet, their little ears listening to their parents' conversation. His children's worry etched onto their faces.

"No. I'm sorry" Meredith whispered and Christopher lifted her shirt to attach the tube and the port

"Is it okay like this?" Christopher asked as he lowered her shirt a bit

"Yeah. Thanks dad" Meredith breathed

"No worries, honey" He rubbed her back before going back to his seat and finishing the food

"Mommy?" Emma quietly whispered

"Yes honey?" Meredith turned her head towards her youngest daughter

"I wanna sit with you" The little girl softly whimpered

"Mom, can we sit on the couch?" Meredith asked

"Of course honey" She nodded and helped Meredith up, helping her to lay down comfortably and smiling as Emma cuddled in her mother's arms

"Nana, is there dessert?" Ava smiled

"Of course sweetheart, do you wanna help me go get it?" Carolyn suggested and Ava nodded with a big smile

...

"Son, you can't forget she had chemo yesterday" Christopher quietly said as he walked up to Derek

"I know. Just a tiny bit longer and we're done" He nodded

"She's amazing, Derek" Christopher said sternly

"I know! I just hate to see her struggling, she doesn't deserve any of this" Derek sighed

"At least now we have the diagnose we finally can do something and prevent things from getting worse" Christopher explained once more

"I know. I'm just scared that she'll overdo herself when she gets back to work and with the kids-" Derek explained but cut himself short as he started shaking his head

"Meredith is stubborn, to say the least," Christopher chuckled. "But imagine this was you. She just wants to get her life back, or as much as possible. She loves you and your two girls and she misses the good and nice things" Christopher calmly explained

"I know that. And I would do anything to be able to just take our girls to the mall, hear them complain about wanting ice cream and a thousand other things but- I'm scared. I'm scared I'll always think about Meredith and if something is going on-" Derek started but his father quickly stopped him

"Derek, same counts for everyone. Bad things can happen to anyone but with Meredith we know it's more likely so trust the screenings her team will do every once in a while"

"Thanks dad" Derek breathed as some tears escaped his eyes

"No worries, son. Now let's get you and your girls home" Christopher pulled Derek in for a hug before they made their way back to the living room where Ava, Carolyn, Addison and Mark were finishing their desserts. Derek looked over to the couch where Meredith and Emma were laying down on the couch

"Mer, hi. Wake up" Derek kissed Meredith's forehead

"Hi" She whispered

"I'm gonna carry your girl to the car, Derek will carry you" Mark informed her and scooped up Emma in his arms and walked out of the house to Derek's car

"Here we go" Derek lifted her while Addison carried the small machine that was still pumping the feeding through the tube into Meredith's body

"Not very sexy" Meredith laughed softly as she could barely open her eyes

"Doesn't need to. Not at all" Derek kissed her forehead and helped her in the car. He strapped her in and they all said goodbye

"Take care, honey" Carolyn covered Meredith with a blanket and kissed her forehead softly
