"Mommy, wake up" Ava giggled as she woke up her mother
"Hey you" Meredith tickled Ava's belly
"Mommy! Stop" Ava giggled
"You're forgetting something" Meredith smiled weakly as she got tired from tickling her daughter but she didn't wanna miss out on this moment
"Please. Stop please" Ava giggled and Meredith finally stopped
"Hmm.. I love you" Meredith wrapped her arms around her daughter
"I love you too" Ava smiled
"Hi, you're awake" Derek smiled as he walked in
"I am. Little munchkin woke me up" Meredith smiled
"Yeah I asked her" Derek smiled
"Where's Emma?" Meredith frowned
"She's a bit fuzzy" Derek sighed
"Can you bring her?" Meredith asked
"I have to get you ready first" Derek said sadly
"Derek-" Meredith tried to stop him
"No. We have to go to the hospital, you have chemo today" Derek kissed her bald head
"Don't want to" Meredith sighed
"You have to. You really have to" Derek rubbed her back and wrapped her scarf around her head
"Aves, go get your sister for me please" Meredith asked as Derek went to get Meredith's sweats
"Okay mommy" Ava smiled and ran out of the room
"Here, your faves. Mom did the laundry yesterday" Derek said and started changing her. It didn't take long before she fell asleep again, causing Derek to chuckle
He quickly finished changing her and carried her downstairs where he sat her down on the couch and covered her with blankets so he could go check on the girls
"Daddy, Emma doesn't wanna come" Ava told him
"I'll go get her" Derek nodded and went upstairs to Emma's room "Em?" He asked as he walked inside
But no one answered
"Emmie?" Derek frowned and walked deeper into the room and saw the little girl rocking herself next to the bed, her head resting on her knees "Emma, I'm here, can you try to look at me?"
Emma kept rocking herself so Derek reached out for her, he rested his hand on hers and watched her flinch
"Hey sweetie, is everything okay?" Derek quietly asked "Sorry for scaring you"
Emma still didn't respond. Tears kept streaming down her face as she looked at her father's hand
"Emmie, you can talk to me" Derek said
"I'm scared" Emma whispered
"Can you tell me why?" Derek asked softly
"For mommy" Emma whimpered
"Because mommy's sick?" Derek asked and held Emma's hand
"I don't want mommy to feel so yucky and icky all the time" Emma scooted closer into her father's arms
"I know. Me neither. But mommy's slowly getting better. Mommy needs less and less treatments" Derek explained although he now knew chances for relapses were high
"Can we come to the hospital?" Emma asked
"You can come for a bit. Addie and Mark will come get you two later on" Derek kissed her head
"I don't like it" Emma whimpered
"I know. I understand honey" Derek kissed Emma's head once more
"Can I go to mommy?" She quietly asked
"Of course. Mommy's on the couch" He said and watched her as she slowly stepped out of the room
...
Meredith was laying down in the hospital bed with her girls that were telling her stories while Derek was unpacking their stuff
"Someone who wants a sandwich?" He asked
"I want one!" Ava smiled
Derek handed her a sandwich and handed Emma her stuffed animal
"Mommy, where's your fluffy?" Emma asked
"Der- Do you have it?" Meredith asked weakly
"Here you two go" Derek placed the bunny in the crook of Meredith's neck
"Thanks" Meredith smiled and wrapped Emma in her arms
"Not so tight" Emma giggled
"Hmmmm" Meredith groaned and Emma cuddled into her mother's side
"Love you so so much" Emma giggled
"Love you too munchkin. Love you too Aves" Meredith smiled as she felt her eyes drooping
"Hi guys" Bailey then walked in
"Hi" The girls smiled
"Meredith sweetie, we're gonna get you started on your treatment for the day" Bailey said as she hung the IV's on the pole and inserted it in Meredith's port
"Hmm" Meredith winced as she felt the chemo dripping
"It will be better soon" Derek grabbed her hand
"Lay with us" She muttered and Derek did as he was asked. He laid down on the mattress next to his wife and daughters and was listening as Ava was telling stories
...
"Come on girls- Let's get ready to leave" Addison said but her pager started beeping, followed by Mark's pager
"Shit-" They muttered
"What's going on?" Derek frowned
"An emergency. Every doctor gets paged" Addison frowned
"I'll call mom and dad, I'll ask them if they can watch the girls" Derek said and was worrying. He really didn't want Emma and Ava to see Meredith getting sick during and after her treatment
