Derek was sitting in the waiting room with his parents. Mark had taken the girls as it was already late in the afternoon. Meredith's surgery took long, too long to Derek's liking but Alex and Amelia were updating them often

Carolyn's hand was still on Derek's back while his head was resting in his hands

"Der, her doctors are there" Carolyn whispered as she spotted Bailey, Jo and Addie

Addison smiled softly, giving a good feeling to Carolyn as she watched them come closer

"Meredith's in the ICU. We were able to extubate her already, she was awake but she was in unbearable pain so we gave her a light sedative just so she could sleep until tomorrow morning" Bailey told them

"We took out her ovaries and uterus, I'm sorry Derek. It was everywhere- We had no choice" Addison told him

Derek nodded in response, right now he couldn't care less about more kids, as long as she would survive

"We had to take out a piece of her bowels and stomach. The cancer is still there but we couldn't take out everything. We did give her a feeding tube and it's possible she'll always need it for extra food if her body wouldn't be able to take it in" Bailey explained

"She's okay. Alex is with her now. We suggest you go see her and then spend some time with your girls. She won't wake up completely before the morning anyway" Jo placed her hand on Derek's shoulder

"O-Okay.. Thank you. But- I-I need to see her now" Derek nodded

"Go Derek" Addison smiled softly and hugged her parents in law

Derek hurried his way to the ICU and into Meredith's room. He gasped as he saw her battled form in the huge hospital bed. She looked so pale but peaceful. For the first time in a while she wasn't wincing in pain and he didn't know how to feel about this

He waited hours until she started stirring

"Oh, Mer" Derek smiled as he saw his wife opening her eyes after hours of waiting

"Hi Mer, how are you feeling?" Addison asked as she woke up Meredith

"Like you took out half my organs" She groaned

"Oh Mer.." Addison sighed "I'm so sorry"

"I wanna go home. I'm sick of this hospital" Meredith sighed

"Soon" Derek promised

"Try to sleep some more. Mark and I are taking the girls home tonight" Addison softly kissed Meredith's forehead

"You heard Addie. I'm staying here, sleep" Derek whispered and held her hand tightly

Meredith hadn't woken up until the next day which was more than 16 hours later

"Hey sleepyhead" Derek chuckled when he saw his wife was waking up

"How long have I been asleep?" Meredith asked

Around 16 hours. It's morning now" Derek told her

"The girls are coming over?" Meredith's eyes widened

"They are" Derek smiled. "Addie called earlier, apparently they wanted to draw cards all afternoon, oh! And they won from Mark during Just Dance" Derek chuckled

"Our girls, of course they won from Mark" Meredith chuckled softly, being aware of her incisions

"How are you feeling?" Derek asked softly

"Better. I think the morphine is working really well" Meredith softly nodded "When do I have another round of chemo?"

"In three days, right before you get released" Derek kissed Meredith's hand "But you have radiation this afternoon" He told her
