Flashback
The fire crackled. You rested on his chest, which moved slowly up and down. The blanket and fire made you feel warm and cosy. Sleep threatened your eyes.
Your father sighed and began to sit up, it woke you from your dozing.
"Little (Y/N), there's something I've been meaning to talk to you about," he said calmly.
You looked up at him, he stroked your hair lovingly.
"Such beautiful eyes you have, little (Y/N)." He chuckled.
You held his hand and smiled, "What's wrong, Papa?"
He hesitated, but eventually took a sigh and began, "That little boy, Izuku Midoriya. You're very close with him, right?"
You blinked in surprise, "Yes, He's one of my best friends!"
Your father switched his gaze to the fire, he looked deep in thought but his eyes showed sadness.
"I need you to promise me something, Little (Y/N)..."
"What promise, Papa?"
"That boy is very special."
He looked at you finally, "Promise me you will always care for him, always stay friends and make sure to protect him. Promise that for me, Little (Y/N)."
"Of course, papa... But why?"
His eyes furrowed slightly, a sad smile formed, "I cannot tell you that now, Little (Y/N). When I die, Whether that be tomorrow or in 70 years from now, you will receive a letter in my will. And when the time is right, you must open it."
"Why, Papa?"
"No more questions," he chuckled now ruffling your hair, "You will know everything someday ."
"Okay... Papa" You yawned.
He rested your head on his chest, and soon you fell into a deep sleep. Asleep so deep that the sobs of your father didn't wake you.
End of flashback.
Flashback
The home was a decent size, yet very little furniture accompanied it. Your mother looked nervous and refused most eye contact with you.
You held your bag close, already missing your grandparents.
"Uh, well, your room is over here." She gestured to an empty room with but a mattress resting idly on the ground.
"Thanks..." You muttered, now walking inside and placing your bag.
Your mother fidgeted for a bit, watching you closely as you scanned your room.
"I got back into cooking! And I thought I'd make us something nice for dinner..."
"Like?"
"Well, I have this recipe: Orange chicken which is very tasty! And I know you're a sweet tooth so I made Kiwi Cheesecake for dessert -"
"I'm... Allergic to kiwi..." You mumbled.
"God! Of course, you're allergic! How could I have forgotten," She growled, becoming upset with herself.
"It's... Okay. Orange Chicken sounds... Um, great!"
Your mother looked up, tears welling at the corners of her eyes.
"I have something for you by the way..."
She walked away, the clamour of a few cupboards could be heard from her room.
She walked out with a letter in hand, her hand jerked back hesitantly for a moment before finally handing it to you.
You fiddled with the paper to open it but was interrupted by your mother.
"No-!"
You flinched, taking a cautious step back
Your mother recoiled sheepishly, "Sorry... It's just that... That letter was from your father... Before he passed."
You gasped and looked down at the smooth parchment, a green wax stamp holding the paper down.
"It came from his will. It stated that you had to be over the age of 18 to open it. It had something to do with your promise."
You looked at the paper, holding it tightly in your hands.
"Thanks..."
She fidgeted again, "What... I hope you don't mind but... What was your promise to him?"
You looked over at her, "Sorry, I do mind. It's personal."
She stepped back, "Right! Right! I'm sorry! Sorry! I'll uhh, go prep dinner while you just... Make yourself at home! Or don't... Uh, whatever you want!"
You closed the door as she scurried away, sitting on the mattress and looking at the letter you couldn't help but feel sad.
You missed your father.
You knew your mother quit drinking for you recently, but you couldn't help but miss your grandparents.
Oh, papa... Why did you have to die? Why aren't you here? I miss you...
