"Why can't people like me? Is there something wrong with me?" Hermione sobbed.

Rigel could just stare at her, trying to find the words to say.

On one hand, he knew he had to talk to her because the girl in front of him was suffering for something that wasn't true and could really ruin her.

On the other hand, he couldn't seem to form the words to say; because, just from watching her, he saw all the times he had been in the same situation, all alone, back in the days when he wasn't at Hogwarts.

Just when he was Rigel Black the freakazoid. Who can't stand still, who fidgets all the time? The guy everyone pitied. The son of a mass murderer. The heir of one of the worst families in Britain.

But she wasn't alone Rigel thought She has another chance.

"Do you really believe that? I mean, just look around. Rigel and I are in a bathroom -and Rigel is not supposed to be here-, worrying about you and missing the feast, even if we don't know how to deal with a girl crying" Eliza said, "I don't know about you, but I think that there are, in fact, people who like you enough to worry and I can even name a few."

"Plus, Hermione, you may have some problems with others, but, talking from experience, it's always better to remain true to yourself than change who you are. After all, they should learn to appreciate the things that make you Hermione Granger, because those are the ones with value" Rigel said "And, of course, at first some people won't like you, but I'm sure that if they get to know you they will... And, if they don't, it's really their loss" he finished.

While he talked, the girl could only stare in awe: Rigel Black, the son of a mass murderer who was not like his father, and Eliza Potter, the girl who lived.

Maybe she wasn't as bad as she had thought.

When she first realized she was a witch, she thought her life would definitely change at Hogwarts: she'd meet people like her, make new friends and enjoy learning from a new world. She'd finally be in a place where she fitted in, unlike all his life in normal schools, where she didn't have friends.

So, when everything repeated itself after entering Hogwarts, the initial joy she'd felt started to disappear. It seemed that no matter where she was, people wouldn't like her. She didn't seem to fit, even in a totally new world.

But that wasn't totally true. After all, as Rigel said, she had two boys and a girl willing to accept her as she was. Willing to be her friends.

But then they were interrupted by a horrible smell. The three looked up and saw a creature that neither of them had ever come across before. A fully grown mountain troll.

It was a horrible sight. Twelve feet tall, its skin was a dull, granite gray, its great lumpy body like a boulder with its small bald head perched on top like a coconut. It had short legs thick as tree trunks with flat, horny feet. The smell coming from it was incredible. It was holding a huge wooden club, which dragged along the floor because its arms were so long.

Hermione gasped, Eliza's eyes widened and Rigel swore, before pushing them into one of the cubicles that it offered much protection when the walls came crashing down mere seconds later. Disorientated and scared the girls crawled underneath the sinks and Percy sent a few well-placed jinxes at the troll which did nothing but anger the troll and nearly broke Harry's neck if he hadn't dodged it. Then Harry and Ron came running in and began to throw things at the troll to distract it.

Harry then did something that was both very brave and very stupid: he took a great running jump and managed to fasten his arms around the troll's neck from troll couldn't feel Harry hanging there, but even a troll will notice if you stick a long bit of wood up its nose, and Harry's wand had still been in his hand when he'd jumped – it had gone straight up one of the troll's nostrils.

"RON! DO SOMETHING!" Harry screamed as the troll swung had him in fury.

"WHAT?" Ron replied as the nearest sink to the girls was knocked off the wall, spraying them with water from the broken pipes.

"ANYTHING!" Harry yelled.

Ron yelled 'Wingardium leviosa' at the club overhead the troll, Rigel shouted 'Petrificius Totalus' at the troll form behind it. Immobilized now, the troll dropped Harry at its feet and went plummeting downwards.

"Get out of the way!" Rigel yelled. Harry rolled out of the way just in time. For a moment, everyone was silent as they caught their breaths and watched Harry retrieve his wand.

The dust settled.

Someone coughed.

"Is it — dead?" Rigel couldn't help but ask.

"I don't think so," said Harry, "I think it's just been knocked out."

He bent down and pulled his wand out of the troll's nose. It was covered in what looked like lumpy gray glue.

"Urgh — troll boogers." He wiped it on the troll's trousers.

"It still smells like it," Eliza grimaced.

A sudden slamming and loud footsteps made the three of them look up. They hadn't realized what a racket they had been making, but of course, someone downstairs must have heard the crashes and the troll's roars. A moment later, Professor McGonagall had come bursting into the room, closely followed by Snape, with Quirrell bringing up the rear. Quirrell took one look at the troll, let out a faint whimper, and sat quickly down on a toilet, clutching his heart.

Snape bent over the troll. Professor McGonagall was looking at Ron and Harry. Rigel had never seen her look so angry. Her lips were white

"What on earth were you thinking of?" said Professor McGonagall, with cold fury in her voice. Harry looked at Ron, who was still standing with his wand in the air. "You're lucky you weren't killed. Why aren't you in your dormitory?"

Snape gave Harry and Rigel a swift, piercing look. Harry looked at the floor, Rigel quickly pocketed his wand.

Then a small voice came out of the shadows.

"Please, Professor McGonagall — they were looking for me."

"Miss Granger!"

"I went looking for the troll, I'd read about them and thought I could handle it, if Harry, Ron, Rigel, and Eliza hadn't come to find me I'd probably be dead. They didn't have time to get a teacher, it all happened so quickly!"

All four of the other children were staring at Hermione, she was lying, completely lying. To a professor!

"Is this true?" Asked Professor McGonagall looking at the group, they all nodded.

"Well, I still say you were lucky, but not many first years could have taken on a full-grown mountain troll. You each win Gryffindor five points. Professor Dumbledore will be informed ofthis. You may go."

They hurried out of the chamber and didn't speak at all until they had climbed two floors up. Itwas a relief to be away from the smell of the troll, quite apart from anything else.

"I think we should've gotten more points," Rigel grumbled. "Honestly defeating a troll? Ron and I should've gotten special awards."

They all looked at each other before laughing

"I think we gained something more than house points mate," Harry said looking at everyone.

"Oh, how 'bout we call ourselves the scarlet and golden quintet," Ron said in the common room. "Because of our house color. Scarlet and Gold."

"Hmm, quintet sounds nice," Hermione mused. "How about golden quintet!"

"Better!" Harry grinned "That's it! Raise your goblets you lot! From this day forward, we are the golden quintet!"

He said this with such a dramatic flourish that it could only be followed by stunned silence. Eliza was grinning, Hermione was looking at him as he was slightly mad. Ron looked amused and Rigel burst out laughing.

"What sort of poncey gang name is that?!"

They all laughed but did so and clicked them together and so the Golden quintet was born.
