Kokichi leant against Rantaro's chest, sitting in his lap with his legs spread over Shuichi. They were watching television, wanting to pass the time until they had to go to bed. That was until the electronic device switched off without human input, the lights in the house following suit. "Shit," Shuichi muttered, slipping Kokichi's legs off him so he could curl his knees to his head on the couch.
"Hey, it's alright, you're safe," Rantaro whispered. Kokichi jumped off him so he could hold Shuichi in his arms, comforting the male. Shuichi had always had an intense fear of the dark, but more specifically, paranoid about what was in the darkness. Being a detective, he'd always worried that murderers or criminals were going to hunt him down and kill him.
Kokichi used his phone flashlight to manoeuvre his way to the storage closet. He swung open the white door situated underneath the staircase and grabbed a bucket of candles they kept for power outages. Keeping his phone in one hand and the box in the other, Kokichi crept through the home towards the living room, careful not to trip on anything that someone may have dumped in the halls. Leaving the phone flashlight on, he placed it on the table, illuminating the room with the faint white light as he set up the candles.
Picking up the set of matches they kept in the bucket of emergency candles, Kokichi struck one of the matches against the box, watching the flame explode into existence. Lighting each candle one by one, Kokichi turned off his phone flashlight, replacing the light around the room from white to yellow flickers. "Alright Shumai, the big bad monsters are gone now!" He giggled with a smirk. He'd always tried to make light of situations where someone felt scared or suffered any intense emotions. It took away from the intensity and helped most people calm down, in his experience.
Shuichi raised his head from his knees whilst rolling his eyes, sticking his tongue out in a mocking manner at Kokichi. With Rantaro already holding Shuichi in his arms, Kokichi jumped to the other side of the bluenette, wrapping his arms around him. "How does it feel to be our bitch right now?" Kokichi chuckled, poking the tip of Shuichi's nose. "Boop."
"Love you too Kichi," Shuichi sighed, kissing the purplette's forehead.
"If you love me, you'd keep me warm," Kokichi huffed, squashing his body closer to the others. "I told you both we should've bought a gas heater."
"Fine, you were right," Rantaro sighed. As the three became comfortable in each other's embrace, the doorbell rang, chiming throughout the house. Kokichi groaned and broke away from the cuddling, hurrying through the house to open the door.
"Pizza?" The visitor held out two boxes of pizza which Kokichi took with a smile, handing over the money and locking the door again. Going back to his boyfriends, Kokichi placed the pizza on the glass coffee table, the black frame blending in with the darkness of the home.
Kokichi took a slice and jumped on the couch with a grunt, happily munching on his food as the three enjoyed the silent company. "This is such a romantic dinner. Eating pizza in candlelight," Rantaro chuckled.
"You wanna know what goes with pizza?" Kokichi asked. The other two nodded, so Kokichi shoved the rest of his pizza into his mouth and ran away without answering. Using his phone's flashlight again, he found the beverage he was searching for, pulling it out along with three glasses.
Pouring the wine into each glass, Kokichi left the bottle on the kitchen counter and slipped his phone into his pocket. It barely illuminated the home as he struggled to carry three glasses without spilling a drop of wine, finding his way back to the candle-lit living room. "Wine? Really?"
"What? It goes with bread and cheese, and that's all pizza is! Well, and tomato and whatever else you put on it I guess." The three enjoyed their dinner, chatting idly as they finished everything, resting on each other. As Shuichi began yawning, his body fell limp as his eyes fluttered closed.
Straining to reach for a white fluffy blanket that lay draped over the couch, Kokichi wrapped his fingers around the edge of it, attempting not to wake the slumbering male. He tugged the blanket closer, wrapping it around the three to protect them from the chilly breeze cruising through the hallways.
"I hope he doesn't have any nightmares because of the blackout," Rantaro sighed, stroking Shuichi's hair. His sweet expression lay dormant, flickering in the candlelight which illuminated his slight smile. Due to his fear of the dark, Shuichi often woke up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat, crying from a nightmare. These became a common occurrence when he fell asleep in the dark, which is why their bedroom had been lined with fairy lights.
"We'll be here if he does," Kokichi whispered. He closed his eyes, leaning against Shuichi's shoulder as the three fell asleep in their cocoon.
