"Shoot me, I dare you, it'll make you feel better." Kokichi glared at his boyfriend standing before him, pointing a handgun at his head. No one would see them as they stood in Harukawa's Ultimate Assassin Research Lab, no one would think to enter. Having received a hand-written note immediately after the murder of a loved one, Kokichi decided to meet Rantaro in the lab where he had most likely grabbed the gun.
Half an hour beforehand, Shuichi's corpse had been discovered in his dorm which caused a switch to flip in Rantaro's head. The three males were in a happy relationship during the entire killing game. Well, the relationship had been happy before one of them died.
Rantaro's hand trembled as he glared at Kokichi. The smaller purplette didn't expect the situation but had to admit, Rantaro knew his way around a gun, which begged the question of his true ultimate talent that the latter had supposedly forgotten. Kokichi could see the other's gut instinct and heart were at war. Searching for the blackened who killed Shuichi, Rantaro had finally admitted he suspected Kokichi without a doubt.
"It can't be anyone else Kokichi," Rantaro spat. "If it is you, I don't want to watch Monokuma execute you. I want the satisfaction of killing you myself."
"Okay, that's fair," Kokichi shrugged. "If you aren't going to listen to me explain myself then you might as well kill me though." His expression remained numb, Kokichi had already accepted death. He'd been secretly planning to commit suicide anyway during the killing game in a way that would let everyone escape. Unfortunately, three murders and three executions had already occurred and he was running out of time for his plan. "That way, you can confuse everyone, escape, and kill all the remaining survivors in the process."
"I..." Rantaro stammered as the gun shook more violently. He glared at the ground, his knuckles turning white as he shifted his finger back over the trigger, ready to pull it. "I don't want to kill anyone..." Trembling in fear, a singular tear dripped down Rantaro's cheek, glistening in the blue light of the lab.
"I know, just put the gun down okay? We can figure out the true killer," Kokichi whispered. "Together." He didn't attempt to move in case Rantaro became overwhelmed, any emotional gunman is a dangerous gunman. He didn't want to save his own life, Kokichi only wanted Rantaro to continue living. If Rantaro killed him and everyone found out then Monokuma would execute him, something that Kokichi wouldn't wish on his worst enemy.
"I don't want to believe it's you Kokichi, it can't be but everything points to you!" Rantaro cried, more tears falling to the tiled floor.
"Please put the gun down and let's talk this through, properly," Kokichi suggested.
He watched as a conflicted Rantaro fought between his options. Finally, Rantaro lowered the gun and released a small hiccup as he held back his sobs. Kokichi took a few careful steps toward him before running and wrapping Rantaro in a tight hug. Rantaro finally released his emotions and dropped the gun, squeezing Kokichi as he cried. "Shh, shh, it's okay babe," Kokichi whispered, rubbing circles on Rantaro's back.
As Rantaro began to calm down after a minute of crying, he pulled back and sniffed. Kokichi reached up and wiped away Rantaro's tears with his thumbs, cradling the greenette's head before pulling him down for a quick kiss. "We're going to find the blackened," Kokichi reassured him. "I know you can do it."
"Maybe... Maybe we should go back to the crime scene?" Rantaro suggested as he steadied his breathing. "I didn't investigate it too well."
"Okie-dokie!" Kokichi chuckled with a grin, jumping back from his boyfriend. He turned and approached the doorway of the lab, ensuring the hallway was clear before leaving. Acting as his usual fake and annoying self, Kokichi rested his hands behind his head as he walked out of the main academy building and into the dorms, reaching Shuichi's open door. He'd lockpicked it earlier in the day at the request of Shuichi's best friend after no one had seen him and grew concerned.
Turning behind him, Kokichi noticed Rantaro lagging by quite a distance, only just having entered the dorms. Assuming the male had replaced the handgun to its original position so someone didn't think it was evidence, Kokichi ignored the oddity. The two entered the room and Rantaro closed the door behind them. "Why'd you close it?" Kokichi asked, frowning at his boyfriend.
"I just want a moment... It's not easy to see Shuichi like this..." Rantaro sighed as his gaze locked on Shuichi who lay lifeless on his bed.
"Agreed..." Kokichi sighed as he also stared at Shuichi. Shuichi had been smothered by a pillow in his sleep, killing him with a brutal and painful method. He'd suffered for what Kokichi assumed to be six or eight minutes, the average time it'd take to smother someone. Frowning, Kokichi sighed as he dropped his hands to his side in defeat. His killer is a fucking idiot.
A pop deafened Kokichi as he winced, the noise surprising him. Turning to Rantaro, his eyes widened as the latter held the same gun as before to Kokichi's head from a distance. His head burned with a horrendous pain as Kokichi's vision blurred, realising what'd happened. With a trembling hand, Kokichi felt the back of his head and found a substance clumping his fluffy hair together. Glancing at his hand, the male found his fingers coated in his blood that dripped to the floor.
The purplette began chuckling as the pain of his wound became unbearable. "I love you Rantaro," he smiled.
"I'm so sorry Kokichi!" Rantaro cried, dropping the gun as he fell to his knees with a wail. Kokichi realised Rantaro had planned this the entire time, closing the door of the soundproof room.
"Don't apologise..." Kokichi smiled as his voice lowered to a whisper. "I... would've done the same..."
Kokichi's body became impossible for him to hold up, falling to the ground as he struggled to keep his eyes open. Pain burst through the arm that he landed on but he didn't care, all he felt was cold. The dorm door opened and slammed shut as Rantaro ran away, something Kokichi understood. He knew he should be crying and hate Rantaro for killing him, but all Kokichi could do was smile.
After all, Rantaro's assumption wasn't wrong.
