"Rantaro's just a friend!" Kokichi screamed at the enraged male before him. The home listened to the argument with eager interest, having not heard one this nasty between the couple. "We aren't together!"
"Bullshit!" Shuichi shouted in response. His arms flailed around in the air as he spoke, anger controlling the bluenette's every movement. Whenever Shuichi became emotional in any way he became excessively animated and embellished his actions. "Akamatsu saw you two kissing! She called me to ask why you and I broke up!"
"It was a fucking kiss on the cheek Shuichi!" Kokichi scoffed, rolling his eyes as he turned around for a moment before facing Shuichi again. "Rantaro does that to everyone, get the fuck over yourself!"
"Really? That's your explanation?" Shuichi frowned in disbelief. "Amami's never kissed me on the cheek, I've only ever seen him do it to his sisters, not friends."
"That's because Rantaro doesn't want to make people uncomfortable, you dumb bitch. He asked permission and I didn't think it'd be that big of a deal because we're best friends, and he's straight!" Kokichi argued. The situation baffled Kokichi as Shuichi, a detective prodigy, couldn't distinguish between friendship and an affair, apparently. They'd never have any similar situations in their entire three-year partnership. "How am I supposed to convince you that I'm not lying?!"
"Fucking don't," Shuichi growled. "I'm done Kokichi. You lied! You lied again and I fell for it!"
"I'm not fucking lying!" Kokichi screamed in frustration, turning to kick the couch with all his might. Ignoring the pain radiating up his leg, Kokichi groaned and paced his area of the room, flapping his hands around in an attempt to calm himself. He'd never hurt Shuichi, but when he became mad, Kokichi had a habit of hurting himself and inanimate objects.
"How am I supposed to believe that?! You lie all the fucking time!" Shuichi argued, their voices never dropping as the two continued shouting.
"You know I can't help that!" Kokichi gasped at the low blow by his boyfriend. "Besides, I don't need to lie to loved ones, you know, like my goddamn boyfriend?!"
"It's no excuse for shitty behaviour Kokichi!" Shuichi groaned. "Tell me, did you ever even love me, or was that a lie too? Has the entire relationship been one big prank?" For the first time that night, Shuichi's voice dropped to a whisper as hatred glimmered behind golden eyes.
"I love you Shuichi, I've always loved you," Kokichi sighed. The two locked eyes, despair thrashing between them as they began talking to each other like humans. "How about I prove it? I'll call Rantaro and tell him I love him, that way you can see how he responds and take it how you will."
Shuichi seemed to ponder the suggestion before nodding, closing the gap between the two by a few steps. They couldn't touch if they stretched out their arms, but they weren't shouting from other ends of the room now. Kokichi pulled out his phone and called up his best friend, putting him on speaker as the couple's argument paused.
"Hey Kokichi," Rantaro greeted from the other end of the line.
"Hey Rantaro, I have something serious to tell you so don't interrupt me, got it?!" Kokichi huffed, attempting to maintain his childish and bossy attitude.
"What's up?"
"Well, I'm in love with you," Kokichi hurried out, guilt piercing his heart at the lie. Silence enveloped the room before Rantaro sighed.
"Kokichi, joke around with someone else. I'm kind of busy right now. Is that all you wanted?" Rantaro muttered.
"O-Oh okay... Uh... There's n-nothing else, bye..." Kokichi stammered as he hung up the call, watching as his phone bounced on the black couch beside him.
"That proved so much," Shuichi groaned with a tone oozing with sarcasm.
"Look Shuichi, listen to me. You should trust me if we're dating!" Kokichi groaned as he ran out of ideas to fix the situation. "We're boyfriends for fucks sake and you're jealous about a straight guy kissing me on the cheek!"
"I guess we're not dating then!" Shuichi's sudden shout made Kokichi flinch and cover his ears as the bluenette stomped towards their shared bedroom. Did... Did he just break up with me? No way... Kokichi stared at the ground as his hands fell to his side, physically numb at the thought of the resolution. A door slammed down the hall, causing Kokichi to flinch again from the loud noise. Huffing, Kokichi clenched and unclenched his fists, unsure of what path to take.
I should comfort him, I'm sure Shuichi only said that in the heat of the moment... We can talk about this when we're both calm. Kokichi made a beeline to the bedroom, ready to open the door before he hesitated. He could hear someone talking and sniffing in the other room. Did I make him cry? I'm a horrible person... "Mum?" Oh, he's calling his parents... "You were right about him..." ...What?
Holding back his betrayed tears, Kokichi swung open the door gently and stared at Shuichi sobbing on the bed, phone to his ear. As Shuichi raised his head to lock eyes with Kokichi, he jumped up and glared at the purplette. "What are you doing?! Get out! Grab your stuff and get out of the fucking house!"
"I live here too, you can't kick me out like this!" Kokichi argued. Great... there goes our calm conversation.
"I can and I will, so why don't you listen to me for once in your fucking life?!" Shuichi cried. Tears poured down his cheeks, but they seemed different from the first. Each droplet held cries of sorrow rather than frustration. "I'm going to my parents' house, you better pack your things and be gone by the time I'm back."
Kokichi watched helplessly as Shuichi stormed out of the bedroom and, again, slammed the door behind him. He faintly heard the front door slam as he stared at the wall. It's... It's over... It's really over... Feeling tears drip down to his chin, Kokichi made no attempt to wipe them away as a droplet fell to the carpet.
The man who Kokichi had loved for years and the man who'd loved him for years back had just walked out of his life. Kokichi had tried everything to keep the relationship strong and steady but everything had been for naught. Shuichi, the boy he'd loved unconditionally, had left him, just like everyone did.
