ALESSIA
I went to the pack hospital to pick up Alena’s meds from Molly. We spoke about her care. She told me how often her dressings had to be changed and gave me antibiotics and pain meds. Her stitches have to stay in for seven to ten days before they can be removed. Molly is going to come and change her dressings daily just to make sure there is no infection, and the stitches are still intact.
After I was done, I went back to the living room so I could give Alena her meds. She has to take her antibiotics three times a day and her pain pills every six hours.
Since she left the hospital early, she is behind and will start feeling the pain if she hasn’t already. Alena has always been the type to hide her pain because she doesn’t want to appear weak. No matter how many times I tell her that she isn’t, that she can’t compare herself with others because she is human, she doesn’t listen.
Once I turned the corner and walked into the living room, she was sitting on the couch with Damon. They were in a very intense make out session. Thank God it's me who walked in on them and not her father. With everything going on, the last thing I want to deal with is him going all crazy, protective alpha mode on Damon.
Standing in front of them, they don’t even notice me there. I cleared my throat to get their attention. It worked. They jumped apart.
Even though I know they are together, I’m still not comfortable seeing my little girl locking lips with a boy. She is also uncomfortable having her mom see her because her eyes are wide, and her face turned red. Damon looked down at the ground.
“It’s time to take your meds. Why don’t we go into the kitchen and get water? The kids will also be here soon, so let's get you seated in the dining room.” I said.
“What’s going on? What kids are coming?” Damon asked.
“I invited one of the little girls I rescued in the woods with her friends to come join me for lunch.” Alena said.
“That’s sweet. Do you mind if I join you too?” He asked.
She smiled at him and nodded her head.
Damon got off the couch and helped Alena stand. We went into the kitchen to grab a glass. Emily was in there barking orders at the others, and I couldn’t help but laugh. She is scary as hell.
I handed Alena her pills and asked Damon to give us a minute to talk. He went ahead to the dining room.
“Alena, I know this relationship with Damon feels great, but I think both of you need to slow down. You're still so young and from that kiss I witnessed, things are getting very intense. I know I said you could date him, but I need you to calm down. If that were your father who walked in on that, we would be arranging Damon’s funeral. His wolf would have gone crazy, and I can’t guarantee that I will always be there to stop him.” I said.
“Mom, I know. I guess with everything that happened, I couldn’t control it, but I will be more careful.” She said.
I gave her a hug and kissed her forehead.
“Why does everyone keep warning me about Dad? He knows about us, and he said it was ok.” She asked.
“Sweetheart, yes your father knows about it. He did give his permission for you to see him, but he doesn’t approve. He’s against this relationship but only agreed because he didn’t want to hurt you. Your father is an alpha. He’s possessive and very protective of his family. He knows this relationship is going to end badly once Damon finds his mate and doesn’t want to see you in pain. Also, with the attack and almost losing you, messed him up. When you were in the hospital, he wouldn’t even let Damon near you. He wouldn’t let anyone near you that wasn’t family. Seeing you in that condition, broke him. He’s not ready to walk into a room and see you and Damon all over each other. His wolf will take over and he won’t be in control, so you need to be careful.” I said.
Alena had tears in her eyes. She wrapped her arms around me and cried into my chest. I held her tight. I couldn’t help but think about when she was in the hospital and how close we were to losing her.
“Mommy, will you tell me everything that happened to me? I remember the attack and I remember fighting that rogue that came after you but once I hit the ground, I can’t seem to remember anything. How bad was it?” She asked.
“I don’t think we should be having this conversation in the kitchen. Why don’t you get yourself together, so you don’t look a mess when the kids come? We will talk about this later when we are alone.” I said.
“Do you not think I’m strong enough to handle the truth?” She asked.
“No, I know you're strong enough but I’m not. If I talk about what I saw and what Molly told me about your condition, I'm going to break down in this kitchen in front of all these people and you know I can’t do that.” I said.
“I’m sorry that I put you through that.” She whispered while leaning back into my chest.
“Hush, this was not your fault. You fought like hell, and I wouldn’t be standing here today if it weren’t for you. I’m very proud of you. You are a fighter, and you are very capable of protecting yourself and others but there were too many against you. If I’m being honest, it does matter if you were human or wolf, with the numbers they had, you should have been dead, but you defied the odds and I’m so thankful for that.” I said.I felt the tear trying to build up thinking about it so after I kissed her forehead again, I shooed her off to the dining room and walked away. I need air.
I walked outside to the back porch, I’m happy that I’m alone. I need a minute to get myself together. Being a queen, the downside to it is that I have to always have my emotions in check. I can’t allow people to see me like this because it makes me appear weak. I have enough going on, I don’t need to worry about being challenged even more.
I sit down in the chair and think about everything. We need to wrap things up here. We have been here too long. The longer we stay, the more risk it is to my family, and we need to get to as many packs as we can before I have this baby. We don’t have much time.
I went to the conference room. I opened the door, and everyone was sitting around the table. Jessica and Jaxson were sitting next to each other. She was going over paperwork with him.
“What needs to be done so we can finish this up and move on to the next pack?” I asked.
“Well, we have finished organizing all the files and paperwork. Everyone is set to take on their new roles, we just have to officially declare them and allow Beta Jeffrey to lead as alpha.” Jessica said.
“Ok, we will have the ceremony tomorrow night. Also, have him set up to attend our pack for training. I want him and the heir Chris there. It will be mandatory to attend.” I said. Beta Jeffrey nodded head.
As they finished up what they were doing and getting things planned for tomorrow, I started going through the files of packs we will be visiting so we can be prepared. I just hope that these next few packs won’t have any serious issues. I really don’t want to have to remove any more alphas.
