JESSICA

“She is alive, but she lost a lot of blood. When she was brought in, she wasn’t breathing. Her heart stopped and from the timeline I was told, it could have been up to several minutes without oxygen. If that's the case, there is potentially brain damage, but we don’t know right now. We got her wounds stitched up and we gave her blood. She’s finally able to breathe on her own but we have her on high levels of oxygen. Her heart is pumping at a normal rate. There isn’t anything else I can do for the night, but I want to run tests tomorrow and see how things are going. We don’t know if and when she will wake up, we just have to wait.” Dr Molly said.

I stood there, unable to breathe. I’m so happy that she is alive but heartbroken that she has to go through all of this. Just the thought of her fighting for her life is making me sick to my stomach.

“Can we see her?” I asked Molly.

“Yes, but just a couple people at a time. She needs to rest. Her body has been through a lot but if you notice any signs of her waking up or moving, I need to know even if it's the smallest movement. I’m really concerned with how much time she went without breathing.” Dr Molly said.

I got up and looked at Jaxson. He sat there clearly mentally debating if he should stay with Alessia or go see Alena.

“Jaxson, Lucas will stay with Alessia, you come with me to see Alena. Afterwards, I’ll talk to Molly about moving both into a room together but right now I know that Alessia would want you to go.” I said.

He got up and followed me across the hall. He stopped at the doorway. I saw him taking a deep breath, preparing himself for what he is about to see.

Opening the door, I felt my throat close and my heart drop in my stomach. She had tubes everywhere. She was wearing an oxygen mask to help her breathe, she had two IVs in her arm, a heart monitor attached and drainage tubes coming from under her dressing. The bandages covered her arms, chest, and neck. Bruises were starting to form all over her body.

I heard Jaxson gasp for air. I turned towards him, and I saw his eyes immediately fill up with tears. They quickly ran down his face. His balance got unsteady and he grabbed a hold of the side of the bed to hold himself up. I reached back and got him a chair. He stumbled into it and grabbed her hand.

“Baby girl, it’s Daddy and Aunt Jess. We are here. Everything is going to be ok. I was so proud of you today. I saw you fighting, and I couldn’t believe how strong you looked. You saved your mom’s life today. I want you to rest and heal sweetheart. I’m not going anywhere. We will all be right here when you wake up.” Jaxson said. He was trying really hard to hold it together.

He kissed her hand and held onto it tightly. I walked over to the other side of the bed and held her other hand.

“Hey sweets, I heard how strong you were today, you were your mom’s hero. Rest up and heal so you can tell me all about it when you're ready. We all love you so much.” I said.

I leaned over and kissed her forehead. I must keep telling myself that all of this will be over soon, and she will be ok. I can’t think of the other possibilities right now. This is so devastating.

After sitting there for a little while, I walked out and across the hall to Lucas. As soon as he saw me coming, he stood up and opened his arms. I threw myself into his chest and silently balled my eyes out. I know he felt my heart being ripped out through the bond. He squeezed me tight.

“It’s going to be ok. She looks bad now, but we all know how strong she is. Nothing is going to keep her down.” He whispered in my ear.

I squeezed him tighter. I wanted to hold on to him for as long as I could. What I really wanted was to go to sleep and wake up and this all be a bad dream but unfortunately, I knew it wasn’t.

“Why don’t you go see her? I’ll stay with Alessia.” I said.

Lucas left and I mind linked Molly to come see me. It didn’t take long for her to show up. When she came in, she gave me a hug. Molly has been close to our family for a long time, and we are all really close ever since the twins were born.

“I want to move Alessia’s bed into Alena’s room. Jaxson is struggling with who he should be with, and I also think Alena and Alessia would feel each other’s presence.” I said.

“Sure, that's no problem. Alessia will probably sleep a few more hours. Her blood pressure came down slightly, but it is still high, so we want to closely monitor it. She was given meds to bring it down and will get some more in approximately four hours. If she starts waking up, I need you to let me know right away so we can sedate her again. I want her to sleep through the night. She doesn’t need to be stressed right now.” She said and I nodded.

We pushed her stretcher across the hall. When we came through the door, Jaxson jumped out of his chair and helped us move her right next to Alena. He put his chair between them so he could be there for both at the same time. I hate that he is going through this right now. He looks awful.

I stepped out of the room and pulled my phone out, I dialed my sister’s number. I need her right now because she is the best at calming me down.

When she answered, it sounded like she just woke up. Hearing her voice, I immediately started crying. I told her what happened and what was all going on. I heard Jake in the background getting up.

“Jess, I’m going to call Micah and have him watch over the pack so we can come there. We are going to bring the twins. As soon as I can get a hold of him, we will be on the road heading to you.” Jake said.

“Jess, do you need me to bring anything?” Emily asked.

“No, just hurry.” I said. We hung up and I felt somewhat better.

Over the years, Micah and Alessia have remained close friends. It took some time for them to repair their friendship with what happened with Becca but once Micah found his second chance mate, things slowly got better. Jaxson saw him less of a threat to his relationship since he had a mate and over time, they started to tolerate each other. I wouldn’t call them best friends, but they do get along. Micah is deeply loyal to Alessia, so I know our pack is safe with him. Our warriors have trained with his pack many times so there shouldn't be any issues with him being around.

I didn’t want to tell Jaxson they were on their way because he would only worry more with the twins traveling but I know Jake can manage it. He will bring several warriors with him. My nerves are shot, and I won’t relax until I see them.

Emily is leaving all the younger children with their nanny. It would be too much of a risk to bring them all. I would love to see my kids; I miss them so much, but I need to focus on everyone here. Alessia and Jaxson need me right now.
