ALESSIA

My blood pressure has stayed down. It’s on the high side of normal so the doctors haven’t pushed to sedate me anymore if I remain calm. I’m lying in my bed next to Alena with Jace lying next to me sleeping. Aryanna is in the bed with Alena sleeping.

It’s been about 24 hours since the attack and Alena hasn’t woken up yet. This morning, they took her to run tests to see if there was any brain damage. All we know from the tests is that her brain is responding but the doctors tell us that we must wait for her to wake up to see if there was any damage done.

Jessica and Emily are lying on the couch. They are watching tv because none of us are in the mood to talk.

Jaxson and Jake are still with the prisoners. Jaxson came back a couple of times to see Alena, but he hasn’t stayed. I haven’t spoken to him since our argument.

Damon left this morning when they took her away and he hasn’t been back. While he was here, he sat next to her and held her hand. Eventually he fell asleep in the chair, lying his head on the bed next to her.

I know Damon is with Jaxson and the others and I really hope Jaxson controls himself.

The door opened and Jaxson walked in. He hesitated once he made eye contact with me. This time, I looked up at him and once he had different clothes on, his hair was wet so he must have just taken a shower.

“Is there any news?” He whispered.

“No, we just have to wait until she wakes up.” I said.

“Alessia, I’m sorry I yelled at you. This whole situation has my nerves all over the place and I didn’t mean to take it out on you. Please forgive me.” He said.

He came and sat next to me. He grabbed my hand and put his head on my chest. I could feel his pain inside my chest. I lifted my hand and put it on the back of his head, running my fingers through his hair.

“Jaxson, I love you but you gotta stop this. Stop being an overprotective asshole. You're going to drive me crazy.” I whispered.

“I know. I got into it with Damon today. I lost control and by the time I realized it, Jake told me I was being an asshole.” He said.

“What the hell did you do to him?!”  I quietly yelled at him.

“I said some things and he talked shit back, I might have punched him.” He whispered and buried his face in my chest so I couldn’t see him.

“You did what?! I yelled.

Jessica and Emily were sitting up on the couch, listening.

“I can’t believe you punched the boy.” Jessica said, rolling her eyes.

“It wasn’t that hard, and he did hit me back.” He said.

All our eyes were wide. I can’t believe Damon hit him back. I’m surprised that he did because Jaxson is very intimidating and strong.

“The little shit was furious. He ran his mouth, talking shit. We all stood there shocked then Jake and Thomas laughed at me because when he hit me, it caught me off guard and I stumbled back. He refused to submit and held his own.” He said.

I didn’t have anything to say.

“I still don’t approve of their relationship, but I do have a little more respect for him. Not many who consider swinging at me. They might want to, but they don’t have the balls to.” Jaxson said. He chuckled at the thought. I rolled my eyes. Cocky much.

Jessica and Emily took the twins to get something to eat. I ordered several guards to watch them because we don’t know all the details of the attack and I’ll be damned if they go after my other babies as well. I already want to show those bastards what I’m capable of. I swear to God if Alena isn’t ok, they aren’t going to fear Jaxson. I will be the one making them wish they would hurry and go to hell because what I will do will be much worse. Nobody gets away with hurting my baby.

“Well, what have you uncovered while interrogating the prisoners?” I asked. He took a deep breath.

“Well, we got a couple of the rogues to talk. They didn’t tell us everything because they were unsure of all who was involved but they did give me several names. Some are in this pack, and some are in others. We got a total of eleven names. They formed this group who is anti-monarch. They especially don’t want you to be Queen. They say that you were born human and don’t understand our way of life. They want packs to run within themselves.” He said.

I couldn’t help but shake my head. I didn’t wake up one day and decide that I was going to be Queen. When Jaxson marked me, this was chosen for me. My wolf was of royal blood and my powers were given to me by the Moon Goddess. All these assholes are only after power and money and care only for themselves.

“Several wolves on patrol in this pack were told to let them through. While making their rounds prior to, they knew all the kids were at the lake and Alena was among them. These people range from alphas, high ranking positions, elders, warriors, rogues, and even regular pack members. Their numbers are growing because they are spreading word of how corrupt we are. We are forcing packs to pay taxes so high that apparently, it's causing packs to suffer.” He said.

“That's bullshit. We barely tax. We could have gone up on taxes several times when it was suggested in our quarterly meetings, and we refused.” I said.

“I know, baby.” He said.

He came and sat on the bed with me. He wrapped his arms around my body, and I leaned my head on his chest. I’m so frustrated because I know if I were to raise taxes, that money wouldn’t be coming from the alpha. He would make sure his pack members paid for it and that's not fair. I hate that Alena was in this position and I wish I already had given birth so we could travel faster. We could get to all these packs and prevent these people from joining these groups. They would have no power withoutO numbers.

My mind is all over the place trying to produce solutions to fix this problem. First thing we need to do is handle the traitors among this pack.

“Hey, have you rounded up everyone from this pack that was involved yet?” I asked.

“No, not yet. I was waiting to see if I could get more information on anyone else. Once they know the prisoners are talking, they might run.” He said.

“How many in this pack?” I asked.

“There are seven that are still walking free. Two patrols that admitted to allowing them through are locked up with the rogues.

“Round them up now.” I said. He nodded.

The logical thing would be to wait like Jaxson said but right now, I don’t want to. Right now, I’m not thinking like a queen, I’m thinking as a mother.

Jaxson got up and kissed me on the lips before walking out. We may never know every name of the ones involved but they damn sure are going to know who they are fucking with. I’m going to make sure they think twice before coming after my family.

I got out of bed and changed my clothes. After fixing myself up in the bathroom, I came out and sat next to Alena.

"My sweet little girl, I'm going to punish everyone who tried to hurt you, I promise. They won't get away with this." I whispered.

I kissed her on her forehead and walked to the door. I stood there looking down the hallway, waiting for Jess and the others to come back. They should be here any second.

Just as I saw Aryanna walking through the door, I heard something behind me. I quickly turned around and saw Alena's eyes open and she was trying to clear her throat.
