JAXSON
The doctor just gave Alessia meds through her IV to help her relax and get some sleep. I know how bad she wants to be up and wait for news about Alena, but I’m scared. I’m scared that Alena isn’t going to be ok, and I’m scared that if anything happens to her, how Alessia will take it. Will it affect her health and pregnancy? I don’t know but with her sleeping, I just hope we get good news, so she doesn’t have to go through that.
I don’t feel anything through the bond right now so whatever meds they gave her, seem to be relaxing her. Having to deal with my own pain and hers has been a struggle. That's a lot of pressure on my chest.
I was holding Alessia’s hand until she was completely out but now, I'm pacing the room. I keep watching the door across the hall, waiting for them to come out and tell us something and the machine sitting next to Alessia. Her blood pressure is still so high even though she is sleeping.
I can’t help but see her in that bed and think back to when she gave birth to the twins. I didn’t know if she was going to survive, and I was begging her to fight and wake up. Now, I’m hoping she stays asleep as long as possible, so she doesn’t have to deal with the stress and pain. I know she feels responsible and blames herself because she couldn’t stop it from happening. Having hit her head and dealing with my pain from the bond, I know it affected her abilities to control. It wasn’t her fault. None if this was her fault. We couldn’t predict that this would happen. Even though we were ambushed, it was very calculated. For them to attack with those numbers when they were at the lake, it means someone tipped them off about her location. This is exactly why I was reluctant to have her come on this trip. She is safe at home. My army of warriors are loyal and would have never let this happen. There are too many unknowns here and someone betrayed us.
I turned around and saw Thomas standing at the door. Behind him, I saw Damon. When I looked at him, he looked away.
“Jax, I have everyone that survived in custody. They are all locked up in the cells. I don’t know what happened but whatever Alessia did to them, made it difficult to move them. They were all in so much pain that they were unable to walk so we had to hook up a trailer and load them all up. You should have seen them. It's like they were in so much pain, the blood rushed to their eyes. I thought they were going to pop out. Some of them pissed on themselves. It was disgusting. It didn’t seem to stop until about ten minutes ago.” Thomas said.
“That's around the time the doctors gave Alessia meds to calm down so I’m sure she did that when she saw Alena go down. At the time, I didn’t even notice. I was so focused on my girls that I didn’t care what happened to them.” I said. I took a deep breath and rubbed my face with both my hands.
“Thomas, I want them all questioned, I want answers. How the hell did they know Alena was going to be at the lake?! Someone here had something to do with it and I want to know who.” I gritted my teeth together trying to prevent myself from yelling. I was pissed just thinking about it. Goddess help them because when I get my hands on them, they will pay dearly and painfully.
Thomas went to walk out but I stopped him.
“Take Damon with you.” I said.
“Sir, please don’t make me leave. I want to know what is going on with Alena and be there for her. Is she ok?” Damon said.
“We know nothing. The doctors haven’t come out yet. When I find out what's going on, Thomas will tell you. I really don’t want to look at you right now. You're the reason she was at the lake. If you hadn’t invited her, she would be safe right now.” I said.
I felt myself getting angry. My blood was boiling, and I'm trying to breathe and calm myself down.
“This isn’t my fault. I was invited and I wanted to spend time with her. Her mom said she could go. We didn’t sneak out. We left with her guards. When we were attacked, I tried everything to keep them away from her but there were too many.” Damon said.
I was impressed that he spoke up. During this whole ordeal with Alena and him dating, he really didn’t have much to say. He stood around and let Alena speak. It irritated me at the time, but I can understand why he didn’t. If he had, I would have probably beat his ass. Looking at him and remembering seeing how hard he was fighting; I know he was telling the truth. I saw him pull Alena’s body into his lap and the look on his face.
“Who invited you? I want to know who planned this get together and who knew about it. Did they invite Alena or was that your decision? I’m not sure if you realize but this attack was to hurt her. They were all going after her. I may not like you and I still don’t want you with my daughter, but I believe you had nothing to do with this. If your intentions weren’t good, you would have never gotten past her mother. I need someone to help Thomas with this investigation. At this point, my daughter and wife were attacked. I don’t trust anyone right now so you're going to help him. Find out who is responsible.” I said.
Without another word, I turned towards Alessia. I walked to the side of her bed and held her hand, trying to calm down. I’m so angry right now. If I don’t get my emotions under control, I’m going to end up killing someone. I heard Thomas and Damon leave.
Jessica pulled a chair up next to me and leaned on me. I put my other hand around her back and held her. Lucas sat on the couch behind us.
“Jaxson, she is going to be ok. I can feel it. She is still fighting. My wolf has bonded with Alena as if she were my own child, she is still here. I just hate that this happened. I just don’t understand why someone would want to hurt a child.” Jessica said.
I could hear her crying, so I held her tighter. I don’t understand either. Some people are so threatened by my wife and her powers that they will do anything to hurt her. They see Alena as a way to do that. It scares the hell out of me that they came so close to doing that. If anything ever happened to Alena, that would break Alessia.
“Hey Jaxson, I heard Alena kicked ass out there tonight. She fought so many wolves and they didn’t stand a chance.” Lucas said.
I know he was trying to lighten up the mood.
“Yeah, you should have seen her. She definitely kicked ass. She was carrying the knife you gave her. If it hadn’t been so many, they wouldn’t have stood a chance. I’m so proud of her.” I replied.
I couldn’t help but smile thinking about it. From the moment I saw her out there fighting, I went into protective mode. I wasn’t thinking at the time but now that I got the chance, she was calm and stayed focused the whole time. She killed and moved on like it was nothing. She fought better than some of my top warriors. I’m extremely proud of her. She took what she learned and went with it. My baby girl was a complete badass warrior out there. It wasn’t until she saw her mother hurt that she let her emotions get the best of her. She saved her mother’s life and I pray that it doesn’t cost her, her own.
My head jerked towards the door when I heard the door open across the hall. I jumped out of my seat and rushed to the doorway. Jessica and Lucas were right behind me. Molly walked out of the room, she had blood all over her clothes. She’s holding a towel, wiping off the blood off her hands and arms. I felt my heartbeat racing. I couldn’t breathe. I just stared at her, waiting for her to say something. She took a deep breath and walked towards us.
“She’s alive but…”
