ALESSIA

Our ride to New York was uneventful. When we arrived at Night Falls Pack, things didn’t go so well. I don’t know if it’s the hormones of being pregnant but I’m losing patience with these asshole alphas. Between their smart-ass comments and their snide looks, they make me want to punch them in the throat. How could it be my fault that they don’t have their shit together?

The pack we are currently at is Night Falls Pack. The current alpha is a pain in the ass. He is only twenty-four years old, but he’s been the alpha since he was seventeen. His father died in a car accident along with his brother and two sisters. His mother was also in the car, but she survived. At first glance, everything looks great. It looks like the buildings and houses have been recently renovated and after going through the books, the pack is financially secure, but the paperwork is off. When I asked the alpha why, he couldn’t give me an answer. All he wants to do is assert his dominance which is a concern. If he could lose his temper towards me, how does he treat his pack members? It makes me wish I weren’t pregnant because I wouldn’t mind going outside and kicking his ass. I’m definitely going to have to come back in the future to do just that.

We are on our way to the restaurant to meet my parents. Growing up, this is where we always came to enjoy our family dinners. It brings back so many memories. As long as I can remember, this has been our place. When I met Jessica, she quickly became part of the family and shared special moments here too.

It took us a little more than a half hour to arrive. I already received a message from my mom, stating they were already here. We have a large group, so I know my parents have reserved one of three large party event rooms towards the back.

Jaxson held my hand, walking alongside me. Alena and Damon followed closely behind us, while Jessica, Lucas and Thomas held the rear.

We followed the path towards the back. There were a group of tables set up outside the event rooms. As we came towards the last one, a woman stood up. Her back was facing me. She stepped into the aisle, blocking us from passing, completely oblivious to her surroundings. She was holding her wine glass in her hand waving it in her hand while continuing her conversation with her guests. Taking a quick glance at the group of people and this woman, it was clear they were wealthy and powerful.

“Excuse me, may we pass by?” Jaxson asked.

She ignored him. She continued her conversation like we weren’t there. I looked at the woman, she definitely had too much to drink. Either she is too drunk to notice or she’s snobby enough to not give a damn.

“Ma’am! Please move out of our way.” He said. Looking at him, he is annoyed.

She spun around, glaring at Jaxson. She opened her mouth to speak but at the same time, Jaxson’s wolf came forward. His eyes glowed and the power radiated off of him. She said nothing.
It doesn’t matter if your human or wolf, Jaxson radiates power and strength. He’s extremely intimidating.

Suddenly, she snapped her head up and she looked at me. Her eyes wide, scrunching her face in disgust. As soon as we made eye contact, I knew exactly who this woman was, and it made me sick to my stomach. I hated this woman. When I was younger, I wanted to say so many things to her, I wished her life would be nothing but misery. She is the reason I had to hide; she is the reason I rushed to move with Jessica across the country. Yes, I would have gone regardless but I wouldn’t have left so much behind and jumped in the car and left so quickly. I feared and hated her so much. Jonathan’s mother. All the memories of what happened years ago flooded back, him dying, finding out I was pregnant, his friend telling me to hide Alena because she would use her connections to take her from me.

Jaxson squeezed my hand bringing me out of my thoughts. I glanced at him then looked back at her.

“Well, what do we have here? I haven’t seen you in years.” She stated. If looks can kill, I would be dead.

I rein in my wolf, hide my scent and power. I don’t want her to know. Not yet. There are several people with her, and I don’t know who they are. It’s hard to scent who’s who because this place is crowded, and the scents are mixed. If I show my cards now, it will take all the fun away. She wouldn’t dare act out of line and I’m hoping she will. I want her to make a fool of herself before she realizes to whom she is speaking.

I’ve never misused my position, nor my powers to manipulate anyone but I’m not thinking clearly right now. I’m hormonal and I’m angry. Just the sight of her makes me want to punch her. My blood is boiling, and I have to fight to keep it under control.

Things are different now. She can’t take my child away from me. She’s not the only one with money and power.

I’ve been very honest with Alena growing up about my past, her father, and his family. She knows about the night of the accident and how his family treated me. It was important because when she was younger, she asked me about them. She asked if she had other family out there. She loves my parents and Jaxson’s family treats her like their own, but I know she has always wondered about her biological father’s side of the family. I couldn’t give her too much information because I didn’t know them. Besides from seeing them the night of the accident and the little Jonathan has told me, I had nothing else to tell her.

In the beginning, I ran in fear that they would find out I had Jonathan’s child. They would come for her and do anything to get her. As time went on, I knew they couldn’t take her away. I was a powerful woman but the night I first met her; I knew she wasn’t a nice woman. Her eyes were cold, and her words were foul. I didn’t want my child to be around someone like that.

The day I sat there and told Alena about them, she stated she wanted nothing to do with them. We never spoke of them again.

Knowing Alena is standing behind me right now, made me want to shield her because she didn’t know what’s going on, who this woman is or what’s going to happen next. Everyone around us can feel the tension and the hatred.

“My husband asked you to move. If you would excuse us, we want to get by.” I gritted through my clenched teeth.

After glaring at me without saying a word, when she glanced at my stomach, she shook her head then looked at Jaxson curiously.

“Your husband? He must have married you out of pity since you got knocked up. You're nothing but a gold-digging whore ever since you tried to sink your claws into my son.” She said.

Before I could respond, Jaxson lunged towards her. I grabbed him before he could reach her. It took so much strength to hold him back. He wants to rip her apart.

What I didn’t expect was, Alena shot past me and went straight for her. Alena grabbed both sides of her shirt and pushed her back against the wall.

“DON’T YOU EVER SPEAK TO MY MOTHER THAT WAY!” Alena yelled. Thomas and Lucas quickly sprang into action and tried to pull Alena away, but she wouldn’t let go.

“Get this girl off…” The witch spoke but cut herself off and just stared at Alena. “You look familiar. I feel like I know you.” She whispered towards Alena.

Alena turned away and looked at me, wanting confirmation.

“Yes, she is your grandmother.” I mind linked her.
