ALESSIA
We arrived at the restaurant early. We reserved a private room in the back because of the nature of this meeting. I don’t believe anything bad will happen because we are in a place full of humans. When Jaxson spoke to her over the phone earlier today, she was excited that he contacted her. She was so excited that she didn’t mind driving into the city.
We settled down at our table and ordered drinks and appetizers while we waited for her to show. The doors to our room are wide open. From the angle of our room, we can see the main dining area leading to the entrance.
Jaxson and I spoke earlier about what we could expect from this, but we really don’t have a clue how this is going to play out. I’m sure both sides will have questions. When she arrives, Jaxson knows to keep up the conversation so I can observe her mind for any ill intentions. My biggest concern is with her being a witch, I don’t know how my powers will work on her.
About fifteen minutes later, Athenea walked in. The hostess escorted her to our table. When we were there the other night, I was so focused on Stella that I don’t remember her. All I remember was a large group of people, but I couldn’t put a face with it. I do vaguely recognize her scent. It was strong. The other night, I smelt it along with humans and werewolves.
“Hello. It’s nice to see you again.” Jaxson stood and extended his hand for her to shake.
“Hello, thank you for the invite and you must be Alessia.” She shook his hand then mine.
“Yes, I’m Alessia. Jaxson told me all about you and how he managed to stumble upon your cottage. It was an unexpected and interesting surprise.” I spoke.
She spoke about their previous encounter while I attempted to access her mind. I got in and I’m shuffling through her thoughts and memories. I don’t want to invade too much on her privacy so I’m skimming through for what I’m looking for.
I can see she is an immensely powerful witch. She’s strong but she was also telling the truth not using her powers often. When I tried to dig further, I was blocked. I couldn’t get past her walls to see why. I’ve never experienced this before.
I’ve come to realize that I’m only seeing what she is allowing me to see. When I pulled back, I saw her glancing at me. She could feel me inside her head. Fuck.
“Did you get what you were looking for?” She asked. She held eye contact with her head held up high. Her confidence radiated off her.
“My apologies. My only intention was to make sure my daughter is safe. Please understand that when Jaxson told me you were Stella’s sister, it made me nervous. My history with Stella hasn’t been the greatest and I’m just trying to protect Alena.”
“I completely understand. Stella is my sister and I love her very much, but she can be a bit much. What she did to you and my nephew was wrong. I didn’t agree with the choices she made. I just want the chance to have a relationship with my niece. I believe I can do that and keep everyone separate. I wouldn’t betray your trust as I wouldn’t betray Stella’s.” Athenea said.
I can feel she is telling me the truth. She opened up and allowed me to see it. Everything she said was sincere. It makes me feel better about the situation.
“You saw Alena the other night, were you able to tell if she were passed the gene or not?” I asked
“No, I wasn’t able to tell. There was too much going on and I wasn’t close enough. You said she has a human scent, but it is possible for her to still carry the gene and it lays dormant. I would have to seek it out but regardless of if she is or not, I would still love to meet her. It gets lonely sometimes and I only see Stella every now and then.” Athenea said.
“How is your relationship with Stella?” I asked
“When we were young, we were remarkably close, but my father didn’t like her. He tried to get me to push her away, but I couldn’t. She is my sister but with her getting alienated while I was taught magic, she distanced herself from me. By the time we were in high school, she had her own friends and never had time for us. When she left, she didn’t speak to any of us. After my husband and parents died, I reached out to her. We aren’t particularly close, she only invites me out with her friends, never just the two of us but she is my sister and the only family that I have.” She said.
I wanted to ask her more questions about how her husband and parents died. I want to ask her more about Stella but from the look on her face, it saddens her, and I don’t think now is the right time. I don’t want to push her. My silence satisfies her because she nodded her head.
“The other night, Alena was walking with a boy, he has alpha blood and quite handsome, is that her mate?”
“NO.” Jaxson said. I couldn’t help but laugh because he said it so fast.
“Damon is her boyfriend. As you can see, Jaxson doesn’t approve. They have only been dating for a few weeks, but they care about each other. He treats her well.” I said and gave Jaxson a look telling him to knock it off.
Jaxson explained his disapproval about Alena and Damon once again while we listened. We talked about the attack that happened and how Alena was the target. Jaxson told Athenea about how Alena fought to protect herself and saved all those children and myself. We told her about Alena being a princess.
“Well, that does explain the power that radiates off of both of you. I’ve never been in the presence of such strong auras before in the werewolf community. I hate to hear about Alena being targeted to get to you. I understand that you want to give Alena time to process and make her own decision on whether or not she wants to meet me, but we need to know if she has the gene. If she does, it will help her protect herself and I would love to show her how to do that. But if she doesn’t, I could cast a protecting spell on her. It’s not one hundred percent guaranteed but depending on what spell I use, it could help.”
That is definitely something we are going to discuss when we get home. I can feel the sincerity and fear coming from her at the thought of something happening to Alena. There is a real threat and it’s not going away. We captured most of those involved in the attack, but word got out and two disappeared. They ran before my guards obtained them and that unsettles me. They are high ranking and who knows where they will end up and what stories they will tell. They could recruit more wolves that are against us.
If Alena had the power to protect herself or a protection spell, it would most certainly calm my nerves. Having that little bit of peace would prevent me from wanting to keep her in a bubble and watch her every second of the day.
We said our goodbyes and assured Athenea that we would be in contact soon. On our way back, we called home and we spoke to the twins. They told us about what was going on at home and how Jake had been training them daily. I miss them so much. We need to finish what we are doing here and hurry home.
