When the morning came, it was hectic from the minute you woke up. Your roommate Sasha was all over the place, stress eating and making a mess in your barracks room.
"Would you relax?" You spat as you slid on your harness and began assembling it correctly.
"I can't, I'm nervous. What if it doesn't work?" She asked worries as she took another bite of her stale bread.
"Then we use Eren." You spoke. "We don't stand a chance against her but Eren has a higher chance of success of knocking her." You huffed as you looped your last strap.
"I don't know, I've got a bad feeling." She replied lowering her head looking at the ground.
"Would you relax? It's gonna work out one way or another." You reassured her as you placed your hand on her shoulder. "It's okay to be scared or nervous but you can't spiral like this."
"I know..." she spoke as she turned her head to the door. "Someone's coming." And within a minute, the door opened and a geared up Connie walked in.
"morning lads." He spoke with slightly enthusiasm. You and Sasha lowered your brows at the name. 'Lads'
"I'd rather be called back idiot than a lad." You admitted as you cocked your head to the side. "Lad sounds so manly."
"The commander asked up to gear up out horses and meet at the wall in 15 so I'd advise you hurry up." Connie suggested as leaned against the door frame crossing his arms.
"You ready?" You asked as your turned your head to look at Sasha. She nodded softly as she opened the draw on her night stand and placed the remainder of her bread inside.
"I'll be back for you. Mark my words." She spoke to the piece of bread as she slowly closed the drawer. "Okay let's go." She huffed as she stood up from her bed.
The walk to the stables was silent and you could definitely sense the tension. They were both worried and you could understand that but you trusted the commander had a back up plan set in place like he always did. Right before the stables, your eyes spotted the wounded Captain Levi and Commander Erwin. Your eyes lit up and Connie instantly noticed.
"Awe it's so cute it's gross" he admitted and she scrunched his face in disgust.
"Don't be jealous baldy, you never stood a chance against the commander" Sasha laughed.
"What are you talking about?!" Connie spoke as the volume in his voice increased.
"Jesus relax!" You spat shaking your head.
"Cadet YN!" Captain Levi suddenly called out across to you. Your eyes fell back on them and there was a look in the commanders face of worry. You waved off your friends and slowly made your way towards the two higher ups.
"Sir?" You asked as you turned your attention to Levi first, then to the Commander and then back to Levi.
"Youre not going, head back to the barracks." Levi said bluntly. You eyes shot at Levi and then back at the Commander.
"I'm sorry? What do you mean I'm not going?" You asked lowering your brows.
"You're staying here and not going to the stohess district. What do you not understand?" Levi spoke in a monotoned voice.
"But sir I-" you began to say but instantly got cut off by the commander who's face had changed to a wave of cold.
"You are not going, Cadet. Those are my orders." He spat somewhat angrily. Your shoulders dropped your eyes fell to the ground. You balled your fists as the anger build up.
"This is what I signed up for. I am a scout. I am supposed to go on these missions. I know the risk of death. You cannot order me not to go because you fear you're gonna lose me." You growled as you lifted your eyes staring directly into the commanders eyes as you spoke each word. "That is very unprofessional of you."
"How dare you think you have the right to speak to the commander like that." Levi chimed in angrily. "Keep babbling and you'll be on probation for the next 3 months including the exclusion of any important missions we will have." He finished as his stare was cold. You felt the tears of frustration well up in your eyes. Your eyes fell onto the commanders gaze once more as tears flooded down your face sending him one last glance of 'you asshole' before you stormed off back towards the barracks.
The nerve he had. To be so selfish and self centered to exclude you from such an important mission. The more you thought, the angrier and more frustrated you became. You eventually arrived into your room slamming the door behind you and throwing yourself on your bed, face first into the pillow. This was definitely going to be a problem.
Hours had went by and you had laid on your bed staring at the ceiling. Yes, you stared at the ceiling for the hours on end stuck in your thoughts. That was until you heard footsteps on the opposing side of the door down the hallway. You instantly popped up and ran to the door whipping it open to see. Mikasa, Armin, and Connie.
"Are you guys okay? What happened? Did you get her? Any of you hurt?" The questions flooded your brain and escaped your mouth before you got the chance to process them.
"Yeah we're okay." Armin spoke up as he turned to face you. "She didn't fall for the trick but once Eren stepped in, we managed to catch her off guard. She somehow used her hardening power to make an enclosed crystal to protect herself." Your eyes widened as Armin continued to tell you everything that happened.
"So where is she?" You asked lowering your brows.
"She's still in the Stohess district, the crystal is too heavy to transport, the military police are taking over." Mikasa chimed in and she glanced at Armin.
"Oh..." you responded as you lowered your eyes for a minute. "Have you seen the commander at all since you all got back?"
"No, not lately." Armin responded.
"Why were you part of the scouts sent to the Stohess district?" Mikasa asked quietly.
"I was ordered not to go." You spat unintentionally because just the thought of it ticked you off.
"I saw the commander heading to his office." Sasha suddenly spoke from the other side of the hall as she approached the group.
"Thank you." You huffed as you sent her a smile. "I'm glad you are all okay, I will check back in with you all later." You spoke as you broke from the door frame and passed through Armin, Mikasa and Connie towards the commanders office.
Without thinking, you grabbed the door of the commanders office and swung it open. The commander was sitting at his desk while section commander hange was on the opposing side. They both snapped their heads at the door at the sudden aggression.
"Jesus YN, don't break the door." Hange joked but her smile dropped the minuet she saw the anger on your face. She turned her gaze to look at the commander who sent her a nod of dismissal. "Oh...." She nodded her head slowly as she gathered her papers and placed them against her chest. "I'll be going now, see ya." And with that she was gone.
You closed the door behind her and instantly snapped your glare back at the Commander.
"Now YN...." He began as he sighed placing his papers aside.
"No. Cut that crap. I'm just 'cadet' remember?" You growled as you crossed your arms. "The nerve you have. To be so self centered. I will NOT let you keep me from further missions because you 'don't want to see me get hurt'. I'll be damned if you refuse to let me do my job." You huffed as you spoke with attitude. He just sat there and listened knowing he wouldn't even try to intervene. "Okay. Now you can talk." You spat crossing your arms waiting to hear his stupid excuse.
