Waking up the next morning was like any other lately. You woke up, showered and joined your table in the mess hall to eat breakfast and have some normal conversation without it turning rogue.
"Isn't the taste of this food supposed to be tolerable. It taste like anus today." Connie spoke making a face of disgust. Jean nearly choked on his water and it caused you to chuckle as he attempted to keep his water from exiting through his nose.
"It tastes great to me." Sasha shrugged speaking with her mouth full.
"Of course it does to you." You laughed and rolled your eyes. "Jean you good over there?"
"Peachy." He rasped keeping his hand on his chest. The freshly crowded mess hall fell silent and your table looked around until all your eyes landed on the doorway to the mess hall. There stood captain Levi and commander Erwin. Who was dressed in his normal uniform. His hair was slicked back and he is hands behind his back.
"Attention scouts" Erwin began. "In 2 days time, we will be setting out on another expedition to our enemy's homeland. Marley is going to pay once and for all. For the lives of the soldiers they have taken. Their lives will not be meaningless." He boomed. "So that being said, I need you scouts on your A game." And with that he exited the mess hall. Your eyes landed on Levi who was already staring at you. He motioned his head towards the hall to get you to follow him.
"I'll catch y'all in a few." You smiled and shoved the last piece of food in your mouth before standing up and walking towards Captain Levi. Once you were within a few feet of him, he started his journey towards his office with no words exchanged with you. You arrived quickly at his office and he opened the door letting you in first. In his office sat hange who was scribbling something on paper but stopped the minute she noticed you.
"Oh GOOD! I have news for you!" She beamed and parted her lips to talk once more but Levi cut her off quickly. His monotoned voice filling the office.
"You went to see him last night didnt you?"he cocked his head, brows lowered and arms crossed.
"And what if I did?" You huffed crossing your arms back at him.
"What did you do?" Levi asked leaning up against his desk.
"I mean we got into another argument I guess you could say, he started saying some nasty things I would have never thought would come out of his mouth so I smacked him." You spoke keeping your voice at a low tone. "In the face...."
"THATS IT!" Hange screeched as she jumped up and down.
"Jesus four eyes, pipe down!" Levi spat as he sent her a nasty stare.
"What is she talking about?" You asked lowering a brow. "Who was that in the mess hall? Is that crazy, temperamental Erwin or is this our Erwin?" You asked exchanging glances from Hange and Levi.
"So I have a theory." Hange cleared her throat as her eyes scanned her pile of paperwork. "Are you ready for it?" She smiled widely.
"Get on with it!" Levi pushed.
"Jesus okay okay. So my theory is...eating Bertholdt caused a chemical imbalance in Erwin's brain. Not entirely sure wether he had too many neurotransmitters or the lack there of. I don't know but that would explain the irritability, the restlessness, the extreme mood swings, etc. I've also learned that a new titan inheritor can see their past shifters memories. So that being said, add that onto the scramble of a brain Erwin had and boom." Hange spoke out of breathe
"Okay so what did you mean by 'thats it?" You asked still not entirely understanding the full story.
"Smacking Erwin may have just smacked his part of the brain back into function. Regulating all the chaos and handling it all." Hange continued. "You brought Erwin back."
"With a smack. God, it sickened me to even think about laying a hand on him like that but it makes sense, who I was talking to at the time was not entirely Erwin." You huffed dropping your heard letting your brain replay last nights events.
"If I wouldn't know smacking him would make him come to his senses, I would of have doing it the minute he laid the aggression onto you." Levi huff taking a sip of his tea.
"Oh nonsense Levi." Hanges chuckled before turning her attention back to you. "Kind of fascinating don't you think??!" She beamed with too much excitement in her voice. "I love learning about these titan shifters! Especially BECAUSE ERWIN IS ONE!!" She screamed. A mug suddenly went flying across the room at Hange nearly missing her face. It hit the wall behind her shattering onto the ground. Her eyes widened as she turned her gaze to look at a raged Levi.
"I've had enough of you four eyes, get out." He growled. "And keep your damn voice down!" He hissed as hange emerged from the chair and scurried towards the door.
"See ya Y/n!!!" She spoke as she exited the door. You stood there absolutely appalled at what had just happened. Your mouth was slightly open as your eyes shot towards Levi.
"And what if that hit her?!" You questioned.
"It was supposed to." Levi responded as he sat himself in his chair.
"Oh my god." You exhaled shaking your head at him.
"What? You're telling me you wouldn't have done the same to that annoying non stop record?"
"No what the hell?" You scoffed looking at him. A few moments of silence between the two of you lapped around the office multiple times before Levi looked at his desk and started to speak.
"He asked of you this morning." Levi began. "You should go see him."
"What if Hange's theory is wrong and Erwin snaps back to the devil again?" You asked trying to think of every possible outcome.
"Hange is never wrong, y/n." Levi assured you. "Erwin is back."
"Does he remember everything he's done?" You asked
"Yes" Levi nodded as his eyes fell onto the mess of shattered mug on his ground.
"Okay" you nodded slowly. "Thank you for telling me sir, I appreciate it." You sent him a small smile before turning towards the door.
"Y/n" Levi spoke quickly before you started to exit the door. You turned your head around to greet Levi's stare. "Just because Erwin is back does not mean I am any less here for you."
"I know, Cap." You smiled. "I'll catch you at training sir." And with that. The door closed leaving your in the empty hallway. Your eyes rotated from the left side of the hall to the right. Erwin's office or mess hall? Did you want to see Erwin at this very moment or did you want to back with your friends pushing the matter to another time?
