Hange fumbled her way over to your table almost ecstatic you acknowledge her in the mess hall."Hi!!" She beamed sliding onto the bench seat next to you. "What's up?"
"We were asking if maybe we could go to the town's festival today? Since we don't have training?" You asked taking another small bite of your food.
"Oh my god, can I come?!" She jumped in her seat. You turned your attention towards the table who seemed unsure. Hange caught on and broke the silence. "Oh geez, you all do understand we can't just let you guys wander around. You'll need someone to watch over you. Me or captain midget over there. You're choice."
"You, 100x you." Connie answered instantly and Jean nodded.
"You'll still have to let captain know because we are scared to tell him." You spoke sending a small glance at the grumpy captain sipping his tea at a table in the far right of the mess hall.
"Deal!" She said as she stood up and faced Levi's table. "HEYYYY LEVII! HEY COME HERE!" She basically screamed causing the whole mess hall to fall silent. Captain Levi's face got even grumpier and you'd didn't think it could. He stomped over quickly placing his hand over Hange's mouth.
"You're so fucking sound. What do you want?" He snapped retrieving his hand to his side.
"These kids want to go to the festival in wall rose and they asked me to take them because you scare them." Hange let out.
"Tch." Levi shook his head, he looked at you and parted his lips to speak. "You really trust Hange to take care of your guys?"
"Uh no sir but she told us we needed someone to keep track of us and we weren't certain if you wanted to do so." You gulped hoping he wasn't going to give you a drive blunt response.
"Well Hange can't go off by herself. Commanders orders so you are all in luck. I'll be going too." He said monotoned.
"But I won't be myself. I'll be with them!" Hange protested.
"Can it four eyes. You know what you did last time we let you near the civilians? You traumatized them." Levi huffed pinching the bridge of his nose.
"Thank you sir" you smile and nodded gently.
The trip to wall rose was a quick quiet ride. Well you say quiet but it consisted of Hange babbling poor captain Levi's ear off. Once you had all arrived, you were all greeted with the crowded chaos of the streets. Numerous booths filled with food, clothes, etc. Sasha's eyes lit up when she smelled the warm cooked food that fulfilled her nostrils.
"Don't stray far please." Levi asked nicely nudging your shoulder which caught you in surprise. The Levi, the captain.... Saying please? Wow. "I'm not gonna be up your asses but don't take advantage of that." He concluded. You nodded and smiled lightly.
"Alright sash, let's get you your food. I can see you salivating." You spoke patting her shoulder.
"I haven't been here in ages." Jean spoke looking at his surroundings.
"I forgot how crowed and feral everyone is on this few days it's going on." Connie huffed a chuckle.
"My parents never brought me to these kinds of things." You shrugged. "They weren't fond of crowds." You finished as you watched Sasha ask one of the booth men the biggest piece of meat she could buy. The man looked at her funny but of course he sold her a massive piece of cooked beef. A person walking by accidentally bumped into your back pushing you to lose your balances falling into Jean.
"Apologies" The voice spoke. Your eyes darted to the person to be greeted with Nile Dok. Commander of the Military Police. "Ahh it's you." He spoke raising his brows.
"Uhh sir." You acknowledged him as Jean made sure you steadied your feet before letting go.
"Don't have too much fun kiddos." He nodded as he turned to continue his trek through the people. You huffed gently. Even tho you and Erwin were in the same walls at that moment, the lump in your throat choked up. As if he could read your mind.
"You okay?" Jean asked poking you with his elbow.
"No yeah I'm good! It's not everyday you get knocked over by a higher up." You chuckled nervously.
"Hey is that the commander?" Connie asked pointing into the direction through the crowd. Your eyes instantly shot to the direction. Your eyes were greeted with Erwin and an unknown woman. By the look on her face, the conversation was not pleasant. And within the time you were looking, she hung onto him multiple times. He looked uncomfortable but not once did he pull away. You broke the stare to lower your eyes to the ground. What the fuck did you just see? Surely it wasn't what you thought it was. Hange said it was you. You were the one, you were different.
Your eyes fell back up to see that Erwin had somehow locked eyes with you and you could tell he was distraught with you witnessing. You exhaled and started to turn around. Your eyes caught a glimpse of him breaking from the conversation with the woman and started towards you. You scoffed and quickly turned to the group.
"I'll be back." Was all you said before turned away from the group and trying to disappear into the crowd. About 15 steps later, a large hand wrapped around your wrist and tugged you off to the side.
"Before you go making assumptions.." the voice spoke, Erwin's. Your eyes snapped up at him.
"Then explain to me how that's work?" You barked feeling your heart thumping rapidly. He pulled you off to the side right out of the chaos in the streets.
"That's Marie Dok." He said bluntly. You took a soft exhale at the last name.
"Why was she hanging on you?" You asked choking on your words. Erwin huffed closing his eyes slowly.
"Walk with me and I'll explain?" He asked gently. You nodded and you both began to walk in unison. "Nile and I met Marie at a bar long ago when we were in the training corps...." He began almost like he didn't want to say anything but continued. " He and I both....fell for her...." He said quietly. "But I gave up on her leaving her for Nile to continue my plans to join the survey corps." He exhaled turning to meet your gaze.
"Are you still fond of her?" You asked quietly knowing damn well you didn't want to know the answer.
"No." He replied quickly.
"Then why was she hanging on you?!" You suddenly snapped gently stopping in your tracks causing Erwin to turn to face you. "Why were you letting her? Why are you even here?"
"I had a meeting with Zachary. And before I made my way back to the scout regiment base, I decided to stop by to see her. See how she was doing. It's something I do every 5-6 months. To my surprise she was drunk. Babbling on about the troubles she's been having with Nile...." You felt your eyes starting to burn as you tried your best to keep your tears from emerging. "Nothing happened, okay?"
With your mind racing with all types of thoughts, you nodded letting a few stray tears fall.
"I wouldn't do anything like that to hurt you." He reassured you.
"What do I have that she doesn't?" You asked chokingly.
"Everything." He spoke bringing his hand up to your cheek rubbing his thumb up and down the side of your cheek. "Care for me to make a list?"
"Does she wish it was you, instead of Nile?" You asked
"She claims but she's drunk. Can't trust drunk words. Nor does it matter. I chose the regiment over her. And now I will choose you over her 1000x over." He smiled gently knowing your were stuck in your running mind. "I'm choosing you over the scouts." He ended the sentence causing your to widen your eyes lightly.
"Erwin, what do you mean by that?" You asked starting to become frantic. What did he mens by that? What did he do? What did he tell Zachary?
