A few days had passed since you had been checked out of the hospital, you were to still take a few days off until today. You were cleared to resume the training with the scouts.

You rolled out of bed and got dressed before heading to the mess hall to join the scouts for breakfast. Your lonely footsteps were echoing the empty hall as you were greeting the chaotic mess hall. That was until you heard a second set of steps behind you and a voice suddenly corroding the silence.

"Good morning Cadet LN" Commander Erwin spoke as his large strides caught up to you quickly.

"Oh good morning Commander!" You smiled once your brain had recognized it was him. "Off to the mess hall sir?"

"As a matter of fact, yes I am" he nodded.

"Care to join me there?" You asked boldly.

"Gladly" he responded as he turned his attention forward. "You believe your ready to resume the scouts training or would you like one more day?"

"No no sir I don't need another day, I might go insane" you protested "but I appreciate it. I need to get back out there or I'm gonna be more weak than I already am"

"Belay my last, Cadet. You are definitely not weak" he suddenly spoke seconds after hearing your comment. "Not many people can fall maybe 50 feet from a tree and resume walking only days later." And with that, you both entered the mess hall.

"I will see you at training" you smiled as you parted from the commander and went into the line to get food. Which so happened to be stew. Ah yes a great breakfast choice. Once you retrieved your food, you made your way towards Reiner and Bertholdts table where Ymir and Krista were sitting.

"Morning guys!" You spoke happily as you seated yourself. Everyone said their hellos and that they were glad you were back except Reiner. He had seen to ignore your sudden presence.

"Hey Reiner you okay?" You asked as you placed your hand on his shoulder in which at contact, he moved slightly away and exhaled sharply.

"YN, I wouldn't..." Bertholdt spoke as he looked at you shaking his head. You brought your hand back to your laughed as you sat baffled for a few minutes not understanding what you did wrong. You turned to krista who looked upset at reiners. Ymir was doing her normal cocky smirk. You went to get a drink of water when Reiner finally spoke.

"Are you fucking the commander?" He spoke in such an awfully nasty tone. Your inhaled as you were drinking water nearly choking as your windpipe tried to clear to breathe air.

"Reiner please! Not here!" Bertholdt pleaded as her lowered his head in embarrassment.

"Jesus Christ Reiner!" You finales responded as your caught your breathe.

"Well are you?" He snarled.

"No where the hell did you get that idea?!" You spat. You were overall upset Reiner blared out the question because you began to notice how simmered down the mess hall had gotten. Your eyes scanned around you to see numerous eyes on your table.

"Bullshit" he spat back. You shook your head almost in disbelief.

"Reiner? No what the fuck? I am not screwing the commander" you responded quickly. He scoffed at your comment as he stood up from the table and stormed off out of the mess hall. Your eyes fell on the three remaining people. Ymir with the same smirk.

"Where is he getting that idea?" You huffed as you began to feel the eyes burn onto you. Your eyes scanned the room again and you were greeted with eyes from the high up table, including the commander himself. You felt overweight and panicked. You snapped your eyes away from the commander

"Wow I didn't think he was actually gonna blurt that out" Ymir chuckled and immediately Krista elbowed her arm. "But really, are you?" She asked again and you sent her a death glare.

"No! Where are you getting that idea?"

"Come on YN, are you joking?" Ymir responded.

"Ymir please!" Krista pleaded.

"What? How oblivious can she be? The commander switched you into his squad during the expedition, when you got hurt he didn't leave your hospital room til you woke up. Oh and not to mention you just walked in with him this morning."

"What Ymir is trying to say Is that Reiner got the wrong idea from it."  Bertholdt chimed in.

"That big idiot is in love with you if you can't tell" Ymir mumbled as she took a bite of her stew. You stood up from the table a bit thrown off and dizzy as the thoughts of everything that just happened clouded your brain. You stood there with your hands on the table for a minute before Bertholdts voice knocked you back to reality.

"YN Are you okay?"  You said nothing as you left the table scurrying out of the mess hall before you could make eye contact with the commander again. You exited the front doors of the hall getting embraced with the cool morning air. You caught your breathe as you helped yourself to a seat on one of the steps. You already knew the commander had something about you that he was intrigued by but you two surely weren't screwing. Nor would it have been anyone's business.

The door behind you opened and out stepped none other than the commander.  He hesitated another step before walking down to the step you were on.

"Cadet, are you okay?" He asked quietly.

"I'm fine thanks." You responded quickly as you were embarrassed. "I'm sorry for Reiners actions, I had no idea he was going to be blurting something like that"

"It's nothing to worry of, YN" he spoke using your first name. It caught you off guard.

"Sir what are your intentions with me?" You asked quietly.

"What do you mean?"

"Sir, you know exactly what I'm asking. I mean no disrespect but I need an answer because I'm feeling stuff that I don't know if I have the right to be feeling it. Because in all honesty sir, I'm confused." You huffed as you forced yourself to look at him.

He broke his gaze from you to look forward as if he were in thought on how to respond.

"Cadet..." ah yes there's the formal name again. "As much as it would be a dream move forward with you in something like this, I cannot risk further distraction. Thought I do believe it's already too late for such. The council would very much remove my from the commander's position. I'm not sure I can risk that for humidity's sake"

"How is that a way to live sir? Where the happiness? All you have faced is suffering and loss. Why won't you let yourself have something that makes you happy?"

"Making a difference for the people within the walls is what keeps me satisfied."

"But are you happy?"

"No..."  he replied and silence filled the air between you two. He stood up and before he turned away "After training, I would like to have you meet me in my office to go over some things for the next expedition." He spoke calmly as he sent you one last glance before turning and walking back up the steps.
