"What are you doing here?!" Reiner asked again breaking you out of your thoughts. He removed his grip from your arms and quickly took a deep breath. Your lip instantly started to quiver as your vision started to blur. Why were you crying? Reiner broke his hands to his face rubbing it in frustration.

Reiner wanted nothing more than to be angry but fuck, was he so happy to see you.  His eyes fell onto your distraught figure and his face dropped in confusion. He exhaled sharply before dropping his shoulders in a quick defeat grabbing your arm pulling you into him, wrapping his arms around you tightly.  His embrace caused you to falter and you reluctantly wrapped your arms around his as well.

"God, what are you doing here y/n?" Reiner spoke choking on his words almost as if he didn't want to ask. You placed your head against his chest listening to his heart beat. "Who else is with you?" He continued.

"Reiner, I can't." You breathed out pulling back from him to greet his eyes. You thought quickly "I..." you paused "it's just me...." you spoke trying to sound as sincere as you possible could. Reiner could call your bullshit from miles away.

"Why are you here?" He calmly asked again as he took a step back releasing you.

Thought he knew it all to well, what was about to be endured on Marley. Why you were there. The way his heart skipped a beat when he saw you only moments ago sprinting from that bench. The double take he had to do to make sure he was actually seeing you. Oh fuck, how he missed you.

"I probably wouldn't tell you even if I knew myself." You spoke still genuinely upset that Erwin kept you out of the loop. Your mind fell back in place and your gaze connected to Reiner's face. There was a moment of silence before a small smile appeared on your face.

"You look old" You spoke softly causing Reiner to breathe out a chuckle before his face fell straight.

"They can't find me with you." He suddenly blurted. "I have to go." He forced out almost reluctantly. He started to bolt passed you but you grabbed his wrist causing him to quickly snap his head to look at you.

"Please don't say anything." You huffed knowing it was stupid of you to even think about asking him to not say anything. You were all about to ruin his home but in all fairness his people did the same to you. Reiner said nothing as he took a few more minutes to double over your features. To once again make sure it was you. He removed his wrist from your hand and turned walking back into the crowded streets, leaving you to stand there alone in the alley.

Evening had rolled around fast, the sun had just started to set. The sky danced with orange, yellow and a baby blue following with the scattered pink clouds. You had managed to find a small field that neighbored the busy streets of Marley where you placed yourself on the ground to watch the sun fade away. You couldn't find anyone in the chaos of Marley

You sat there with your mind racing about what could possibly happen next. Reiner tells his general, war continues. Or Erwin throws the first punch and the war continues once against. Either way, It was doomed from the start.

A pair of approaching footsteps corroded your thoughts causing you turn your head to find the source of the steps. It was none other than Erwin. How he found you, you'd never know. He sent you a small smile which you only returned with turning your attention back to the sky. He approached next to you planting himself onto the ground.

"Y/n..." Erwin began as he started to pick at the grass that laid beneath the both of you.

"It's okay, Erwin. I get it. I could threaten the whole mission. Being a commander comes first. I understand." You spoke softly as your glance at him. God he was so beautiful, his gorgeous bright eyes reflecting the sky, his jawline, his eyeb- you shook your stare away when you reminded yourself of what the future could hold. "But really, why are we here? There was no plan huh? That's not like you, so what's the motive?"

Erwin's head dropped to watch his hands that laid against his knees fumble with the grass blades.

"I fell off the rocks for so long that I.......I just feel like I need a redemption rather now than later." He began almost sounding embarrassed. "And to kill that fucker who laid his filthy hands on you." He spoke sternly. "These people are awful beings and they deserve to feel the very pain we have endured for years." You said nothing as you leaned into your right laying your head on his shoulder.

"Thank you." You responded as you wrapped your arms around his thick bicep. You could have sworn you saw a small smile on his lips but he tried to make it hard to see it seemed.

"I'm not going to give them a warning. Nor will the scouts know when I begin until it officially starts. I have asked Levi to keep an eye on you for me. Because I can't be there to make sure I don't doing anything rash to hurt you. I'm not holding back " Erwin started and your eyes slightly widened.

"Are you sure you can handle the Colossal's power?" You asked lifting your head to meet his stare.

"No, that's exactly why you can't be in close proximity." He spoke abruptly.

"I don't think this is the right approach Erwin, what if it all goes wrong?" You asked worried.

"Then so be it, we go out fighting. Finish a war we didn't start to begin with." He finished off in a tone as if he was done with this subject. Your eyes broke back to the peace in the nature that's surrounded you both. Hell was going to break loose and you weren't sure if you wanted part of it.
