Before your mind could process what you wanted to do, your legs were already making their way towards Erwin's office. You just wanted to see for yourself that your Erwin was there but apart of you was afraid he'd spiral in front of you. That Hange's theory was a lie. You stopped abruptly few feet from Erwin's door to see it swing open quickly and he slightly peer out to see who it was. It was as if he was expecting you. Well of course, Levi told you he wanted to asked of you. The moment his eyes laid on you, they grew a sparkle. A smile painted across his face but it dropped quickly. He held his hand out waiting for you to grasp it.
With hesitation you brought your fingers to connect to his palm sliding your hand into his. He wrapped his hand around your gently as he tugged you into his office. Your tensed body instantly relaxed at the gently connection with Erwin. After leading you into his office, he closed the door with his free hand keeping his other occupied with yours. After the door had latched, he brought himself in front of you where his soft eyes fell down onto you.
The look in his eyes was something you hadn't seen from him in weeks. Something you missed dearly. He brought his open hand against your cheek as he began to graze his thumb up and down softly. Once his hand planted itself delicately against your cheek, you quickly closed your eyes holding back tears that were eager to drop down your face. You exhaled and immediately broke into a quiet sob, tears piercing through your eyelids rushing down your cheeks.
"Oh god, Erwin...." You pushed out as you threw yourself into his chest instantly feeling his arms wrap around you tightly.
"There is never going to be enough to do in this world to make it up to you. For what I've done to you, for what I've said to you, for how I treated you but I can promise you I will not stop until my end. Because I absolutely dread myself for it. I'd take it back but that isn't an option so I'm going to do what I can." He spoke softly leaning his head on top of yours. You responded with no words, just the gesture of nuzzling yourself deeper into his warmth.
The next few days consisted of little to no words between Erwin and you. That night you laid in his arms for hours until you two had fallen asleep. You'd wake up, leave to train and get on with your day only to return to him in the evening where you two just spent hours intertwined in silence. Once again until you both fell asleep. You were upset about the little conversation between the two of you, you really weren't ready to discuss it. And you also wanted don't give Erwin time to be him again without bringing it up.
The day of the expedition was nothing but chaotic as usual. Breakfast was quick, Sasha was also stress eating and the whole table acted like she was dying. It was good to get another laugh in before you all set out to Marley for this short noticed earlier Erwin was charging you all into. Though you weren't nervous. You more knew Erwin always would make a plan to succeed one way or another.
The last hour within the walls was spent prepping the horses, wagons, gear inspection, supply stocking, All the fun activities you were to do before every expedition.
"Jean would you stop petting your family, it's weird. No but seriously can you help my lug these crates to the wagon?" Connie pleaded as sweat dripped down his forehead as he 'struggled' to pick up a 'heavy' crate.
"Connie shut up." Jean hissed at his joke. "It's getting old!"
"So is your grandpa biscuit over there but you still talk to him." Connie smirked and you nearly chocked on air overhearing it. Sasha bursted into laughter nearly spooking her horse. "Sasha you're scaring jeans cousin."
"Dude come on." Jean huffed as he dropped his shoulders in defeat and annoyance. Jeans eyes snapped to yours you who's hand was covering your mouth trying not to laughing loudly. "You." He pointed his finger at you "don't evens start." He finished off with a warning. You rose both your hands in the air quickly.
"Look man I ain't said nothing." You smirked trying not to snort out a laugh. "I'm just doing my thing minding my business." You responded as you continued racking up the wagon horses.
"Aye brats! Quit the chattin and get the rest of the shot out here." Captain Levi popping into to see everyone giggling. His eyes scanned the stables until they landed on you. He sent you a quick friendly nod before turning back to the remaining 3. "If you're gonna continue to lag, might as well feed your parents before you leave, Kirstein." Levi blurted out before he quickly left. You, Connie and Sasha busted out laughing whilst Jean threw his hands up in the air shocked at Levi's joining in on the jokes.
"Oh come on!" Jean screeched as he turned away with his head dropped back as he stomped out of the stables.
"I would have NEVER thought the captain would joke! Let alone of Jean. Oh I laughed so hard I almost peed." Connie spoke catching his breathe.
"Ayo TMI my dude." Sasha scrunched her face in disgust.
"You've said worse! How do you think I feel?!" He shot back.
"Okay okay you two, let's get going before we become the captains new targets." You spoke quickly before Sasha could put in her two cents. And with that they, kept their mouth shut and finished up what they were doing quickly meeting everyone outside. Another scout had come to retrieve the horses for the wagon so all you had to do was bring you and yourself to join the group near the walls. You approached the scout who had readied your horse and thanked him before taking off to find your little trio to join.
You mounted your horse once you had pulled up in between Sasha and Jean. Sasha has pulled out a biscuit and started to nibble on it while everyone else became situated. Jean sat on top his horse grumpily with his arms crossed. You rolled your eyes before you scanned the mess of humans trying to find Erwin your eyes instantly landed on Erwin, Levi and Hange. Erwin and Hange were deep in conversation and Levi's gaze had already met yours. You smiled quickly and in response Levi's eyes sent a glance to a spaced out angry Jean. A smirk appeared on Levi's lips as his eyes adverted back to you. You chuckled softly and shook your head.
"It wasn't even funny" you mouthed to him from afar. You saw his shoulders shake as if he were chuckling as well. You were shocked, you had never seen the grumpy captain laugh before. Erwin had snagged Levi's attention including him into the conversation.
"What was that all about?" You suddenly heard a sassy voice next to you vocalize. You head snapped to look at Jean confused.
"What was what?" You asked. "The Captain laughing?"
"Smiling and laughing. His eyes were on you the minute you joined over here." Jean remarked.
"He was laughing at the joke he made about you earlier.""Hmph" Jean rolled his eyes before turning his attention elsewhere.
"You're so dramatic!" You laughed.
"Pardon?" Jean asked acting like he didn't just here you say that. "Me?! Dramatic? Girl please."
"ATTENTION SCOUTS!" Erwin's voice suddenly boomed across the rows of soldiers on horse back waiting for orders. Everyone's eyes quickly snapped forward to pay attention. And there it was, The start of the expedition to Marley.
