It's strange knowing that in the next few days, you'll most likely die on the hands of a titan you've feared your entire life. That's all you can think off as you're making your way out of the jet.

Steve has gone silent ever since he saved Wanda and Vision. You know what he's doing. He's trying to soften the inevitable blow.

He's trying to push you away, because if he already doesn't like you then why should he care? It's a child's way of detaching from someone, but then Steve's mind is much less developed than his body... his mind is younger than his physique.

'Steve...' you sigh when you follow him into the room you were given by T'Challa.

'Y/n don't...'

'You know... this is exactly what I was afraid of when I told you this a year ago... we knew this was coming...'

'That doesn't make it any easier-'

'No it doesn't but it's no excuse for you to act like a total dick towards me either... I'm fucking scared Steve... you think it's bad knowing your girlfriend will die? It's even worse to know yourself that you're going to die... I don't know what comes after and I'm fucking terrified!' Your lip wobbles and your eyes fill with tears while you try taking a deep breath.

'Y/n...' he softens immediately.

'I get it... okay.. I get that you want to cut me off... that you push me away... I get it... but I need you... please...'

He pulls you in by your gear and wraps his arms around you while more tears stream down your face. 'I don't want to go...'

Steve stays silent, he doesn't know how to even react to this. He's about to lose yet another girl he loves. And you're right, you both saw this coming, but still he feels unprepared, you and him both.

5 years later

He will never forget your face when the time came. Your nightmare was the exact copy of reality and he has hated himself for neglecting you ever since.

He remembers it so vividly, he even has nightmares of it still. He hasn't done much in those five past years except for running away from the authorities after completely losing himself because of you.

You wouldn't be proud of him if you were right there, but that's just the thing. You're not there, not anymore.

Even if they could bring everyone back, it still would be a gamble if you would return with them.. you died just before the snap. One moment he was holding your body and the next you were just a pile of dust.

He looks around the rubble that Thanos created, even after 5 years he still manages to tamper with Steve's life.

'On your left...' sounds in his ear, making him turn around frantically. It can't be..

Bruces thing didn't work, or else they would have heard from them sooner, right?

An orange glow fills the air as his friends step out one by one, all alive and well. 'Come on baby...' he mutters to himself. His eyes darting between the armies stepping out.

Then his heart comes to a full stop, an iron man like suit flying through the air. 'THANOS!'

'Impossible...' he breathes as he takes a few steps back, watching you glide through the sky before launching right at him.

You aim for him and send your blasts right his way. You definitely have gotten an upgrade, that's not what surprises Steve in the slightest.

It's the fact that you came at the right time, after five years. And that you're standing up to the man you once were so afraid of, he couldn't be more proud of you.

'You didn't kill me quick enough.. but I'll make sure I won't make that mistake with you...'

As everyone else runs into battle with those creatures Thanos brought, he stands still, frozen in place. You walk up to him with a smile on your face.

'You shaved...' you tell him and it makes him chuckle with tears in his eyes. 'Really?'

'Couldn't help it...' your fingers link with his. 'We will talk after this, yeah?'

'Amongst other things...' he replies making you smile.

'Now lets go kill that grape..'
