Song: SYML - where's my love.
Warnings: angst, motherly fluff, kids questioning everything.

After the whole ordeal you went straight home, undoubtedly being followed by some of Steve's men. You just needed to get to the apartment, lock the door and throw away the key. You'd be safe here. That night you just knew you'd get a million questions from Anna.
'Mommy? Why didn't you let me talk to daddy?'
'Anna... please, can we talk about this in the morning?'
'Why not now?'
You love her dearly, you do. But it's too much right now. Your surprise meeting with Steve has you confused and hurt at the same time. You also feel scared for Anna, she has no idea what Steve is capable of in situations like these. He's unpredictable.
'Sprout, please...' you sigh, you tuck her in good this time. No escapes.
'Okay...goodnight mommy, I love you..'
The sweetness in her personality never fails to make your heart melt right out of your chest. She's too sweet to deserve this.
She doesn't deserve to be with you as a mother, she doesn't deserve to live like this when she could have the best if you would've just skipped talking to Greg, the cop next door. She doesn't deserve to know her father only from stories and pictures.
'I love you too Sprout...' you smile at her before closing her bedroom door.
You let your forehead rest against the wood. What have you gotten yourself into?

'You knew about this for six years?!' Steve angrily yells at his friend. Well, Bucky's not sure if he even fits the bill for friend anymore after this.
Bucky just gives him a nod. 'She's my daughter, isn't she?' Another nod follows and Steve throws his hands up.
'Unbelievable, first she rats us out and then this?!'
'She never did that Steve, you were just too arrogant to listen to your fucking wife..' Bucky bites back at him. 'Instead of getting angry, you should step up... you should give her a call and let her talk...'
'Why? Why would you even still be in contact with her huh?' He lays his fist on the desk in front of him.
'Because that night you send me to her place to trash it... I saw that she was pregnant, she was crying and begging for me to stop because that was all she had... and I felt bad okay? I felt horrible because that woman had nothing anymore because of you... you loved her Steve.. and yet she had to endure all of that for something she didn't even do...' Bucky shakes his head at his friend.
'She was your wife Steve... think about it, what benefit would she have if she ratted you out huh?'
Steve sighs. It's been a lot today. Finding out he has a daughter with the woman he has been hating ever since he found out she talked to the cops. And then to hear from his best friend that he's been taking care of her behind his back.
'Call her... and ask her to meet up... let her explain everything...' Bucky says before he leaves the office.
'FUCK!' Steve roars before shoving everything from his desk to the floor. It looks better there anyway, he thinks.
He can't wrap his head around it, if you didn't snitch to the cops, and that's a big if. Then who did? Who in his inner circle has been framing you?
He doesn't know the answer to that, he's still convinced you did it. But then there's this other aspect to this situation, his daughter. She can't be ignored, he always wanted kids, especially with you.
He also promised himself he wouldn't be like his father, absent most of the time and when Joseph was there he would be cold and mean to his children. Steve will break that cycle. He wants to.
So he takes out his phone and searches through the blocked numbers. Most of them are from old employees, old business partners and somewhere in the middle are you. He unblocks the number and decides to give it a go.
He's not very hopeful, surely you wouldn't keep an old number like-
'Hello?' You ask.
He stays silent, a breath gets sucked in upon hearing your voice again.
'Hello?' There it is again. 'Listen if this is one of those prankcalls, it's not funny-'
He interrupts your sentence to say your name, it feels weird to say it out loud towards you again.
'Steve?' You ask, confusion is laced in your voice.
'Hi...'
'Can I help you with something Steve? I'm kind of busy...' you weren't, but you do need an excuse.
'Can we uh...' god he feels like a teenager again. 'Can we meet up? Somewhere this week?'
'Why?'
'I think you know why...' he replies. 'I really want to talk to you... Bucky told me everything... and I want to hear your side..'
Your hold on the phone tightens. If you'd have super strength, that thing would be well past broken.
'Six years... it takes you six years to call me and ask for my part of the story... who the hell do you think you are?! You may be the big bad mob boss but I am not afraid of you anymore...so no... we can't meet up... goodbye'
'Y/n wait-' he tries but to no avail, the call gets disconnected and Steve is left with his now shut off phone.
You angrily drop the phone on the table and you take a deep breath.
'Mommy?' You hear your daughter whimper behind you.
You turn around and but on your brave face before crouching down. 'What's going on Sprout?'
'I had a nightmare...' she wraps her tiny arms around your neck and you lift her up into your arms.
'Those are scary sometimes... what was this one about?' You ask her as you move to your own bedroom with her in your arms.
'I thought I met this nice unicorn but he turned out to be really scary... he tried to eat me...'
'I'm sorry to hear that sprout... you know what? Why don't you go lay in mommy's bed, and mommy will climb in with you... so that when the mean unicorn is back, mommy can scare it away for you?'
She nods as you put her down. She crawls under the covers and after some preparation you follow her. She crawls against you and you wrap your arms around her.
'Mommy?'
'Hmm?'
'Can I meet with daddy this week?'
