Song: Imagine Dragons - boomerang.
Warnings: some angst, Bucky being incredibly romantic and sweet, flufff. Mentions of self image being well... terrible.

Events like this are the hardest to make work for you, you found that out a long time ago, when you were actually a newborn vampire.
You could do your makeup and hair, watch yourself in the mirror, but it's moments like these that remind you that being something other than human, usually comes with a price. It's true that some mirrors are good for vamps too. The silver layer is removed and so you're able to look at yourself, and yet you don't feel like it's enough.
You can't be in any photos, how much you want to be in them doesn't matter, you don't show up in them. Just like the mirror thing, you can't see yourself, you don't even know what you look like anymore. You miss that the most about being human.
Sure, being a vampire has some great advantages, especially being with a super soldier and being able to keep up, but then there are some things you miss. It hits you hard now that you look at the picture of Bucky and... nobody else..
'It's okay... it happens, I'm used to it...' you tell his
friends. They might believe that you think it's fine but Bucky notices the slight waver in your voice, the disappointment laying heavy on your tongue. The slight watering of your waterline, he noticed. As his friends engage in their own conversation, Bucky turns to you. 'Are you okay?'
'Yeah, yeah...' you wave it off while the pain in your chest grows more and more, you've got a killer smile to hide it though. 'I guess I'm just a little... tired... can we go home? Please?'
'Yeah of course baby, hold on, I'll say goodbye to my friends and then we can go...'
He says his goodbyes before he takes your hand in his and pulls you towards the exit. The ride home is silent, tension is thick and heavy.
'Are you sure-'
'Yes I'm sure Buck... I'm okay...' you assure him.
But you're not, and he knows.

You've been down ever since and it's eating at Bucky. He has to watch you move around the house like a ghoul and he almost thinks you've changed your inner vampire to one.
He has a plan though, and if Steve could maybe once in his life hurry the hell up with his perfectionism, he could make you happy again. Or at least maybe a little more, which isn't hard when you're already pretty far down.
He's hosting another party tonight, just his close friends so no full house. Not that he even has more friends than just his close friends.
He knows you're not up for this, but he hopes that his friends, and the gift he had Steve make for you, will bring that fanged smile back.
'Hey baby...' he hugs you from behind, your head lulls against his shoulder while you let out a sigh.
'I know you're not feeling well, don't try to deny it... I'm just.. I think you'll feel a lot better tonight... but in the meantime... I invited Nat and Wanda a little earlier... they mentioned something about a girls day..and wanted to take you out...I can call them off if you want-'
'No, no I'd love to spend the day with them...I'll just have to.. layer up..' you sigh.
'Do you though? You'll be here the whole time... they will bring everything.. don't tell them I told you that they would though because Natasha will bite my head off...'
'They bring everything? So I don't have to go out?' Your voice wavers again. Emotion hits you like a truck.
You've been alive for a long time and never in the history has anyone been this kind to you. A lot has changed for women in general but this?
You turn around in his grasp and pull yourself closer to him in a hug. 'I love you...'
'I love you too my little leech..'
'Okay moment over..' you joke with a small smile and a laugh to join.
Step one of the huge plan to make you smile and laugh again complete.

The whole room is silent as your eyes cast upon the gift Bucky has just given you. On top of everything else today, this has to be the cherry on top.
You step closer to the painting in front of you. Your finger carefully running along the paint covered fabric of the canvas.
Do you look like this woman in the painting? You're not entirely sure but judging by the looks from everyone else, it must be uncanny.
'I don't look like this, do I look like this?' You ask, Bucky nods with a smile and you clasp a hand over your mouth.
His arms wrap around you from behind, his chin on your shoulder as you now both stare at the painting.
It almost feels like it's just the two of you and the painting. 'I can't believe that's me...' you breathe.
'I told you, you're beautiful, and you told me you were fine with the subject but you're not so I had Steve make them, might not be a picture I can post on social media but it makes you happy, and when you're happy, I'm happy...'
'Them?'
'Yeah...' Steve hands you a sketch pad. It's filled with drawings of you and Bucky. 'This might seem creepy but, I have a good memory..'
'I...I.. Steve I don't... I don't know what to say...I haven't been this speechless since the 1600's...'
Bucky kisses the side of your head while a bright smile appears on your face. 'Thank you.. all of you...'
'No problem...anything for Bucky's girl..'
Mission accomplished.
