Get In My Car

Val POV

Friday morning was a terrible morning, again! After getting absolutely not one peep of slumber the entire night, I had to get my daughters ready for school and be at work within the hour. When we finally made it out to the car with all our crap and I strapped them both in, I got behind the wheel only to discover my car didn't start. I sat there for moment in shock, not knowing what to do, then decided to let the girls back inside the house to watch cartoons while I called AAA to tow it to a garage.

The rest of the day got much better! I ended up calling off work and letting the girls stay home from school. The first thing we did was spread out paper all over the kitchen table so they could fingerpaint. While my little girls were occupied, I called up Laney to ask if I could catch a ride with her later that night to her mom's party and wound up explaining the entire situation. Later in the day, I made grilled cheese for my daughters and was able to catch a small nap when they did. I desperately needed to catch up on sleep.

I probably wouldn't be able to see Marshall this weekend. I have nobody to babysit, and I don't even have a car. I'm going to be stranded for the weekend!

My Past

CARS

Jarred had bought me a white BMW 328 for my birthday. I named it Snowflake. I loved that car, for a moment. I put white leopard seat covers on it with matching steering wheel and it looked sharp! I had that car for about a year until I came out one morning and somebody had rear ended it into a tree. At first, I thought it was an accident, but then it hit me that all the windows had been busted out too.

One of Jarred's side hoes had found out that I was his wife and that's what I drove.

I didn't have a car that winter for almost a month. It was an incredibly difficult time because I already had Cassaundra and I was pregnant with Bella. I felt like such a failure of a mother, as a woman, and as a person. I was supposed to be enjoying beautiful times with my children and instead I had to put up with this bullshit from his bitches. I felt so cheated out of life. That was supposed to be a special time, a new and exciting time. And I didn't even get to enjoy it.

Now I drive a Subaru Outback. It's old and it's a mom car, but it's safe. It's mine. I bought it myself. It may not be the best car in the world, but no one is going to take it away from me! Now, if only it would start....

Hailie was the one who ended up giving us a ride over to Kim's that night. I had only known Kim for two months and by now I had met all of her daughters a few times. They were all kind, down to earth people. It was nice to get out of the house and be around other adults for once even though I am still quite shy. I hadn't been allowed to socialize or just be myself in years.

When we made it to Kim's, as planned, Hailie was going to watch my daughters for a little so I could enjoy myself. They were always well-behaved, and I felt comfortable with Hailie. She was good with kids, so she took the girls downstairs to play.

I walked out back to the patio of Kim's home to a gorgeous spread. Food, candles, and torches lined the area. Kim just had heat lamps installed so it was very comfortable even in the wintertime. Beautiful trees and foliage hung around us and I suddenly felt really stupid that I was the guest with the broken-down Subaru.

Marshall POV

My plane landed in Detroit in the afternoon, and I called Laney to tell her I was home and nonchalantly try to find out what time Val would be over at Kim's that night so I could possibly bump into her. Laney told me the news that Val's car had broken down that morning. This poor girl couldn't catch a break. Laney also had the bright idea of me being the designated driver to give Val and her little girls a ride home later that night so I could get to see her again. Alaina was a genius!

Just the fact that I was now in the same town again as Valentina again gave me a rush. How was I going to keep my hands off her? I hadn't had a crush like this in...maybe ever. I liked the way she carried herself.

After killing time at Porter's for a few hours that night, Laney finally gave me the greenlight that Val would be leaving Kim's soon, and I should head on over. I practically leaped from my chair and grabbed my shit to be out.

"Where the fuck you going in such a hurry?" Porter called behind me.

I turned to face him quickly, "It's Friday night, I got shit to do man."

Porter busted up laughing, "You're going to see that chick again, ain't ya?"

I tried not to smirk, "Wait til you meet her, dawg. She's fucking beautiful!" I pulled up my hood.

When I got to Kim's, Laney was waiting outside for me and walked me around to the back of the house. The night was dying down. There were two of Kim's friends hanging out and some couple I had met before finishing up dessert and telling Kim how beautiful her house is, but I didn't see Valentina anywhere.

"Wait a second," I was getting paranoid. "Is she even here? Why'd you text me that she's here?"

"Of course, she's here. She's right in there." Laney said slowly pointed at the glass sliding doors leading to the kitchen.

I rushed over to slide the door open.

"Jeez. Calm down old man!" Laney called to me and giggled.

I hoped surprising Valentina like this wouldn't cause her to turn and run. I flung open the door, stepped into the house, and Val stood before me at the island packing up the food. There was nobody else in the room, so we had privacy. This moment couldn't have been any better. Val's eyes met mine and she was glowing. I knew she was happy to see me too. She looked the same as I remembered her, only better. Her dark, curly hair framed her face, and her chestnut eyes sparkled. Val was short and her body was crazy. She was showing a bit more cleavage tonight than when I had met her the first time. It was nothing too revealing. Just enough to keep my eyes wandering. And my dick twitching.

"Hi Marshall." She smiled genuinely.

That lit the fires within me.

I closed the door so that it was only Valentina and me. Impulsively, I walked toward her, grabbed her face, and kissed her. We both smiled as we felt the heat between us.

"I missed the fuck outta you." I told her.

Why the fuck did I say that?!

"C'mon." I motioned for her to get her stuff. "I'm your ride home."

I helped Val pack her daughters into my car to take her home and see where they lived. I made small talk about my trip as we drove and within a few minutes, both little girls were asleep. I nudged Val and pointed to the backseat to share a smile with her. It felt nice driving like this at night. It felt like we were a family.

Wait, what?!

When we pulled up in front of their apartment, I turned off the car engine and looked at Val, "You grab Bella, I'll grab Cassaundra?"

Val and I carried the girls up the steps to their second-floor apartment to tuck the girls in their beds all comfy, then made our way to the living room.

"Thank you." Lightly escaped Valentina's luscious lips.

"Can I get some time alone with you now?" I asked quietly.

"Sure. Let's go out to the balcony."
