Marshall POV

"Baby, please come out of there! This is what we wanted, right? We wanted to locate your ex, so you could finally be free of him!"

Val opened the bathroom door with mascara tear stains down her cheeks, "In New York?! Tomorrow?! I'll have to leave the girls for the weekend again!"

"So what? Alaina or Hailie don't mind staying with them."

"That's besides the point. It makes me feel like a bad mom." She pushed past me to go to the closet and start flipping through clothes.

"This is for them Val. It's to get that monster out of their lives for good." She didn't even look at me when I said it and she was starting to piss me off, "Unless you don't want him out of your life. Maybe you're still holding out and wanna see if he's changed. You don't want to divorce him yet just in case this time is different."

Val looked at me with the most dreadful look of disgust at my comment, and then her mouth collapsed into a sob.

"Baby, I'm sorry. Sorry, that was stupid."

"Why would you say something so horrible to me?!" She exploded at me.

I had never heard my beautiful Val in a rage quite like that before.

"I'm sorry Val. I wasn't thinking. I apologize." I tried to put my arms around her, but she wiped them off.

"Get away from me." She warned. "I'll be ready in an hour."

Val didn't say anything to me on the plane. She sat curled up in a corner with her journal, so I left her alone. She's already going through enough and then I had to go say some dumb shit on top of it.

When we finally got to the hotel room, I suggested she get a shower while I called for some room service. I made sure to order her favorite as a peace offering.

"I got you stuffed shells." I handed her the dish and the remote when she got out of the shower so we could relax for the evening.

"Thanks." Val bit into her food and grabbed a roll from the room service cart. "The shower felt good."

"I'm sorry I fucked up earlier today babe. I know you probably have a lot going through your head that I don't even know about. I know damn well you understand how dangerous he is." I sat next to her and kissed her head while she chewed her food. "I'm going to be there, Val. I'll always be there to take care of you sweetheart, so don't worry about anything."

Val POV

Paul managed to squeeze us in as his last clients of the day at six in the evening. When Marshall accompanied me into Paul's office and Jarred was already there with an attorney, I thought I would vomit. My body bounded with rage of all the shit this idiot put me through. I felt Marshall mean mugging him while he pulled out my chair for me and sat between Jarred and I.

Paul started in confidence, "Ok, we are here today to finalize a divorce between the two parties, but Mr. Carter who is representing Mr. Smith today contacted me to communicate that it is Mr. Smith's intention of obtaining visitation with his two young daughters."

My face scrunched as I held a breath. I opened my mouth for a moment but there was no sound.

Paul continued, "Mr. Smith, I would like to share with you right here the pictures of the bruises that Ms. Smith suffered on numerous occasions from multiple beatings by you over the twelve years you were in a relationship."

...and then I found my voice.

"Don't even think for a second that I would allow my children to be alone with you! That would be dangerous and irresponsible of me to leave them in the care of a monster." I spoke to my almost ex-husband for the first time in over a year. "We don't talk about you, you're Mr. irrelevant in our house. They don't even remember you exist."

Jarred shrugged in an immature manner, "Whatever bruises Mrs. Smith endured were purely brought on by me having to defend myself from her antics. Val tends to become irate when things don't go her way." He tried to convince everyone else in the room.

"Are you fucking kidding me?" I stayed calm when I spoke. "It's documented. I have hospital records indicating abuse. Do you not remember getting arrested that same night?"

"I wasn't arrested that same night; it was the next day..."

"Do you even understand how stupid you sound right now? First, that's bullshit because you know exactly what I'm talking about. But I on the other hand have a perfect memory of every time you beat me and every injury I endured and I'm sure a courtroom would love to hear our case if we can't come to an agreement." I sat back aggressively folding my arms across my chest with the satisfaction of knowing my argument was airtight.

Marshall broke the silence with a scoff.

Jarred spoke up, "And now you're here dating Eminem."

"Yeah, thank god man, so she can get the fuck away from your punk ass." Marshall spoke briefly.

"That has nothing to do with why we are here!" I cut in. "Jarred, just sign the papers."

"No! We still got shit to talk about!"

"Fuck you Jarred!" I stood.

"Fuck you too Val!" He stayed sitting but yelled in my direction.

"You don't wanna do that man!" Marshall stuck up for me.

Jarred rolled his pretty boy eyes in that way that I always hated, "Well don't go thinking you're getting one penny of my money then. If I don't even get to see my kids,"

"I've lived without your money for the past year. Hell, I've lived without any help from you for their entire lives. I had to work through both pregnancies because your sorry ass could never keep a job. I don't want anything from you. All I want is to be left alone with my kids."

Marshall looked over at me in pride when I said that to my ex.

Jarred shook his head, "You got me backed in a corner Val."

"Oh, boo hoo. Stop wasting my time." I signed my portion of the paper and began exiting the meeting. "If you're going to beat women, at least admit to it. Don't be a coward and a liar on top of it all."

A/N: Thank you all so much for reading this story! I'm glad that you enjoy Marshall and Valentina. If Val and Jarred go to court, I think she should hire Camille Vasquez!
