Chapter 16

Rex led you and Hunter through a maze of doors while Cid took Echo, Wrecker and Tech to analyze any repairs on the ship.

"This is quite the maze," Hunter joked as Rex led you through yet another tunnel.

Rex chuckled, "it's not ideal, but it is defensible and off the radar of the Empire."

You nodded, "the mines here were shut down towards the end of the Clone Wars, if I remember correctly," you added, "one of the few anti-war bills that passed in the senate."

"Correct," Rex replied, "it was so small and insignificant that the Republic didn't mind letting it go, it is also why the Empire hasn't come here."

Rex finally led you to an open room with several panels and plenty of people bustling about. "Command Central," Rex gestured to all of it, "this is where the leaders make things happen."

You and Hunter looked around in awe. This was well beyond the small cells you had heard of before, this was actually a promising rebellion now.

Rex led you through the mess of people and panels towards the back of the room. As you walked by plenty of people stopped to stare or whisper about you, but you ignored them, determined to memorize each corner of the room.

Rex stood at attention in front of a group of people, then gestured to you and Hunter, "Senators, please allow me to introduce Commander Hunter of Clone Force 99, and General (Y/N)."

"General (Y/N) of the jedi order?" One of the woman asked.

Another chimed in, "we heard rumors you were still alive."

"How did you survive the purge?" another asked.

"My friends, please," a familiar voice sounded above the rest, "please allow the general a moment to process."

Your eyes landed on the familiar face and a smile broke out on his face, "Bail?" you asked.

He smiled brightly at you, "it is good to see you again, (Y/N)."

Another familiar woman stood up next to Senator Organa, though you could not place her name. "Welcome to the Rebellion, General (Y/N), I am Senator Mothma and we are very glad to have you with us," she welcomed.

You nodded to her and the others, "thank you for your hospitality, but my squad has been traveling for some time," you explained, "would you please allow us a few moments to rest?"

Bail nodded, "of course, Captain Rex, would you please show the general and her squad to some empty quarters?"

Rex saluted and waited for you to follow. "When you are rested, join us again, we have much to discuss," Senator Mothma stated. You nodded in thanks to all of them and then walked side by side with Hunter out of the command room.

Wrecker, Tech and Echo met up with you at an empty room that was now going to be your home. Everyone laid down immediately, exhaustion overtaking you.

"Where is Omega?" you asked Rex before he left.

"She is with Rafa and Trace," Rex answered, "I made arrangements for her to stay in their quarters, if that is alright?"

You smiled, "of course, it is good for her to have sisters."

Rex nodded and closed the door behind him. It took you no time at all to fall asleep, comforted by the relative safety of the rebel base. For the first time since the end of the war, you had a peaceful dreamless sleep.
