The doors closed behind you, "they will follow up this way, all the others have the blast doors closed," you said to the soldiers waiting for you, "fall back to the mess hall, draw them in."
"How do you know they will fall for it?" Hunter asked.
You shook your head, "we don't have a choice, the grand inquisitor is here," you explained, "we just need to buy time."
Suddenly a new voice shouted your name, "(Y/N)!"
You turned and looked to see Cid waddle up to you in a rush, you had never seen her run anywhere. "What's going on, Cid?" you asked, concerned.
"The empire is trying to break into the main base in hangar 3," she responded, "we can hear the blasts from the walkers."
"Shit," you muttered under your breath, "we're out of time, that ship has to leave."
The rest of the batch gathered around you, overhearing Cid's words. "They won't get away, not with a walker right outside the hangar," Tech explained.
"Besides, all the troops aren't in yet, there are too many of them out there," Echo added.
"So then what," Wrecker continued, "the blast doors won't hold forever."
You thought for a moment, "the ship in the far central hangar," you exclaimed, "we decided not to use it for evacuation, but the hangar is more protected, no outside doors attach to it."
"But we took the fuel from it to put in the other ship," Cid argued, "and it would take time to move everything to it."
As you were about to open your mouth, the base shook, generating from the door to the main hangar. "The walkers must have breached the shield, those doors won't last long against firepower like that," Hunter explained.
You looked at Cid seriously, "it is our only hope, you have to lead the others to the new ship, stretch a fuel line and only take what is necessary," you explained, "we'll keep the Empire from that section of the base, but you have to hurry."
Cid looked unconvinced, but nodded and ran off towards hangar 3. "Rex," you spoke into your communicator, "change of plans, we are moving everyone to the far central hanger and getting them out on that ship, any squads you can spare to help them transport and refuel would be great."
"I'm sending delta and lima squads to help," Rex responded, "do I even want to know what went wrong now?"
You chuckled, "not even a little bit."
You turned your attention back to the batch, "it's our responsibility to keep the empire from those back passageways, we have to give Cid time to move everyone."
They nodded in response as the base shook again. "We just can't catch a break," Echo muttered as he began to walk farther into the hallway towards the mess hall.
Hunter stood next to you until it was just you two in the hallway, "it doesn't look like we have any friends coming."
You shook your head, "we just have to give them time, we have allies, they will come," you tried convincing yourself.
"How can you be so sure?" he asked.
You smiled and started walking towards the mess, "I feel it."
