The clones were waiting next to you and the front of the base, watching the Empire move closer and closer. Wrecker jumped around and fidgeted in anticipation of battle, the rest of you remained quiet.
"You're going to get yourself in trouble aren't you?" Hunter asked, standing close to you.
"We just have to give the first transport time to escape," you explained, "then Omega will be safe and nothing that happens here can change that."
He placed a hand on your shoulder, turning you to look at him, "you are acting like this is the end."
You sighed, looking at your feet, "I am hoping that it is not, but I can't help but look at those forces and wonder how we can survive." Your heart sank, "this is all my fault, if you hadn't saved me at the end of the war, if I had just kept running, you wouldn't be in this mess."
He hooked a finger under your chin, bringing your eyes to him, "I would fight and die by your side a thousand times, I regret nothing and wouldn't change a second of my time with you."
You wrapped your arms around him and he pulled you tightly to his chest, placing a loving kiss on the top of your head.
All too soon the perimeter alarms went off, the Empire was still several hundred yards out, but they had breached the first marker. "Squads 1 and 2, fall back to the main hallway, squads 3 and 4 remain in the hangar," you instructed loudly, "squad 5, report to Captain Rex in the main control room."
They all nodded and took off in various directions. The two remaining squads fanned out to cover more ground. You walked up and stood in a line with your friends, still watching the Empire advance.
"If any of you want to go on that transport, I wouldn't blame you," you whispered so they could hear, but the civilians could not.
"We're with you, General," Echo said proudly.
"To whatever end," Hunter whispered.
He nodded to each and smiled. The alarms went off again, the imperials had broken the second marker.
"At their current speed, we should expect them to breach the shield in less than 10 minutes," Tech informed.
"They take forever!" Wrecker whined, slamming his fists together in anticipation.
"Will the walkers be able to get in?" Echo asked.
You nodded, "they can breach the shield, but there is no way they can meaneauver the hallways."
Echo nodded. "What about Crosshair," Tech asked, asking the question on everyone's mind, "shouldn't we have prepared the soldiers for that?"
"There is no way to prepare for it," you responded, "but he is a greater threat, if you get the chance, take him out."
They all looked at you seriously, but they were interpreted by the alarms sounding again, they had broken the final marker.
"Rex, that's the final barrier," you said into your communicator.
"Copy, General," his voice sounded, "troops back here are ready."
"Get ready," you shouted to the civilians, "as soon as they breach the shield, take fire."
"Are you ready for this, boys," you whispered.
"Always," Wrecker said excitedly.
You smiled and gripped your saber handle. You watched the steps of the troopers, watched each boot hit the ground until they were inches from the shield. You ignited your saber, letting the light fill the room as the stormtroopers breached the shield, the white armor glistening in the artificial light.
"Fire!" you shouted, charging the ranks. In no time at all the final battle had begun, a mix of blaster fire and metal ensured as the two sides clashed. There was nothing you could do now, but fight.
