You ran to the main hangar where the first force had gathered, the others were already waiting in waves around the base. You looked through the shield and saw the walkers landing and the countless troops being unloaded. "That is more than 10 battalions," Wrecker said in awe.
"I have done some quick calculations based on the size of the blockade," Tech added, "there has to be over 10,000 troops plus walkers."
Hunter gripped your hand tightly as you both looked out at the impossible task ahead of you. "We can do this," he whispered.
You inhaled sharply, "we just need to stall them, survive long enough for our allies to arrive."
Omega, who was standing next to you staring at the imperial forces, finally spoke, "then let's stall them, we can fight and use the base as cover, we know it here, they don't."
You smiled and knelt down next to her, "Omega, I need you to be on the first ship out of here, okay, Rafa and Trace will be with you."
Omega's smile faded, "but you always risk your lives for me, I want to help."
Hunter knelt down too, placing a hand on your back and the other on Omega's shoulder, "I know you have trained with Ahsoka, but we need you to get out of here, these people want to take you back to Nala Se."
Omega looked frightened at the mention of Nala Se, but she quickly shrugged it off, "please (Y/N), I want to help."
You smiled at her and ruffled her hair, "alright little one, I have a mission for you." She looked excited awaiting orders, "I need you to protect the people on the ship, make sure they are safe and that they are ready to leave when there is an opening."
"Copy that," she said excitedly.
You nudged her on, "go inform Rafa and Trace of the mission and get to it," you said, watching her bound away towards the girls.
You and Hunter stood up, "is it wise to let her go on a mission alone?"
You chuckled a humorless laugh, "don't worry, she is not. I already told Rafa that they might have to drag her on that ship when it is time."
"And you trust them to abandon the fight?" he asked.
"Of course not," you smiled, "I have another back up plan."
At that moment, Bail walked towards you calmly, surveying the forces awaiting in front of the base. "You wanted to speak to me, general?" he said.
You nodded, "I arranged for you to be on the first ship out of here, your diplomatic clearance will get the people to the nearest safe planet."
Bail looked surprised, "I thought you detested leaders who did not fight with their people?"
You nodded, "I do, but you have not abandoned them, you are ensuring they get to safety."
Bail nodded in respect, but before he turned around you spoke again, "Omega is to be on that ship with you, I trust you will take any means necessary to make sure she is off this planet at the first opportunity."
Bail laid his hand on his heart and gave a slight bow, "on my honor, I will protect the girl."
You nodded in thanks and watched Bail walk towards the secondary hangar, where the shuttle was awaiting the first wave of passengers.
"General, look," Echo said, bringing your attention back to look outside the base, "the commanding officer seems to be breaking from the others."
You looked out and made out five figures moving towards the base, escorted by about 10 troopers with heavy artillery guns.
"Is that-" Wrecker asked loudly.
"Crosshair," Hunter muttered under his breath.
"I thought he had given up hunting us," Echo added.
Tech cleared his throat, "of course he did not, his programming would forbid abandoning a target before killing them."
You held up your hand, "it doesn't matter right now, the plan doesn't change," you explained, "we need to fight long enough to get as many people out of here as we can."
They all nodded and a few seconds later, Rex approached you, "any chance you are going to find a peaceful solution to this matter?"
You laughed, "the only way they leave peacefully is with Omega in their hands."
Rex shook his head, "it's alright, I didn't hold out much hope anyway." You each chuckled and he reached around his back, handing you his helmet. "You'll need something a little more protective than your old jedi tricks to survive out there," he said as you took the helmet in your hands. "She's old and dusty, but she has protected me for years," he finished.
You smiled and tucked the helmet under your arm, "thank you, Rex. Any chance I can convince you to be on that first ship?"
He nudged your arm playfully, "If I leave this place, it will be on the last ship, with you."
You smiled at him and he placed a friendly hand on your shoulder, "I'll go prep the others, just make sure to keep me updated."
You nodded and watched him walk over to the groups of frightened people, clutching their guns fearfully. You turned and stood at the edge of the shield with the rest of the batch.
You looked at each of them in turn, with a smile on your face. Then, one by one, you secured your helmets on. You nodded to Hunter and took the first step out of the shield and onto the rocky terrain of the moon, ready to face down the whole empire alone.
