You inhaled sharply as you took in the figure in front of you, the face was older than you remembered, but no less familiar. His robes were tattered and dirty, but you could still see the flex of muscle underneath. You smiled, "Obi-Wan!"
You ran closer to him, sharpening the connection with him through the force, "How are we able to see each other?" you asked.
He smiled, "you have grown in the force, as have I," he responded, "you may have been closed off from it for some time, but you were always getting stronger."
You both smiled at each other, reveling in the presence of a friend. "I would love to stay and talk, but my people... my family is in trouble."
"I know," he responded, his smile fading, "I sensed it. I have been looking for you since the purge, but recently I have tried harder, although I have only been able to find you now."
"Why only now?" you asked.
"Because you have finally opened back up to the force fully," he explained, "I started looking harder after I felt the death of Maul, I knew if anyone was brave and strong enough to kill him it would be you, that was what restored my faith of you being alive."
You shook your head, "I did not kill Maul, at least it was not me that took the finishing blow, just all the ones before that."
He nodded, "whatever you had to do to survive, is not your fault, (Y/N), we have all made questionable choices and questioned our place in this world. I am just glad to have finally found you."
You looked around, "where are you?"
He glanced around, "an old desert planet, Tatooine, I have a new mission."
You looked at him curiously, but did not push for more information, "I'm sorry Obi, but I have to go back now, the Empire is on our doorstep."
He looked seriously, "how could you have gotten in trouble with the Empire on Mandalore?"
You chuckled, "I am no longer on Mandalore, and I was in trouble with the Empire long before then."
He shook his head, but a smile was on his face, "you should be laying low."
You shrugged, "what is life without a little reckless fun?" You laughed, but Obi-Wan could tell deep down you were worried, you sighed, "I took something valuable from Kamino, and now everyone wants it back."
"What did you take?" Obi asked.
You bit your lip, but then hung your head, "a child."
"Ah," Obi-Wan breathed without surprise, "the child the masters warned me about."
"There are more masters alive?" you asked, suddenly filled with joy.
Obi-Wan shook his head, "no, I have spoken to them through the force, they remained on this place to watch over us."
You nodded, "I have spoken with them too, they warned me about the child, encouraged me to care for her."
"How did you-"
You cut him off, "I'm sorry, if I survive this, I will tell you everything, but I have to go, the imperial forces will be here any minute."
Obi-Wan nodded. "If you're not doing anything, I could use your help, I need allies, strong ones, or we are doomed to die on this moon."
Obi-Wan smiled, "where are you?"
You chuckled and flashed him a teasing smile, "you already know, just reach for me." Then you turned and slowly disappeared from Obi-Wan's sight.
You were aware of the hard floor of your room on Polis Masa even before you opened your eyes. When they flashed open, a new light was within them, like your whole world was now made clearer and sharper. You sat there for a moment, feeling the new power flow through you, reaching into the depths of the Earth to feel it flow around you.
You finally stood, pulling out a box that was in your crate. Bo-Katan had fixed your tattered Jedi robes, but you kept them hidden again, preferring to wear your new armor. You ran your fingers over the familiar fabric, admiring the enduring nature of these robes.
Today you had to be more than you are, but you also had to be more than you ever were. You had to lead an army of people who had never truly seen battles, against a force far larger and more experienced than yours. You pulled on the robes over your bescar armor, the plates fitting underneath the robes perfectly. It plates of armor now functioned as concealed protection, but to the eye, you were a jedi again.
You took a moment to braid your hair out of the way, revealing the fading cuts and bruises on your skin. You smiled to your reflection, hoping that the smile would look real enough for people to follow you.
Suddenly, you felt the ground shake and heard the murmurs of hundreds of terrified people. You knew the first landing ship must have arrived outside the main hangar, the invasion had begun.
