Hours must have passed as wave after wave of troopers entered the base. You had led them into the mines below the base. It was a large dark mine below the base, with several levels of rock all in various stages of extraction.
Soon, you saw the grand inquisitor approach behind the troops, followed by Crosshair and Sergeant Major Krennick. You ducked behind some mining equipment and spoke into your communicator, "they're here, Cid, take off!"
Just as you spoke a grenade went off just to the side of the equipment you were hiding behind. You winced as you hit the floor from the force of the explosion. You reached up to touch your face and saw the blood from the cuts stick to your fingers.
"What was that?" Cid's voice came frantically.
Your ears were ringing, but you sensed the bullets before they arrived and quickly ducked behind some more equipment, "take off!" You shouted, "get out of here now!"
Troopers rounded the corner on your hiding spot. You quickly reignited your saber and dispatched the troopers. You had a small moment of reprieve as you looked at the littered battlefield before you. Bodies, both your soldiers and stormtroopers lay still and bloody on the ground. Time moved slowly as you saw the troops still alive firing in both directions, shouting and screaming both in pain and in anger.
When time moved normally again, you heard the unmistakable sound of engines in the far hanger and the sound of a ship taking off. You heard the blaster fire from the walkers, but with how close they now were to the base, they would never get a clean shot at the ship before it disappeared.
You glanced at the Grand Inquisitor, who had yet to join the battle at all. He looked towards the sound of the ship and anger was present on his face as he concluded that a ship escaped, no doubt carrying the prize he was so eager to possess. He found your eyes across the battlefield, you looked deranged, angry, bloody and bruised. "We're away, general," this time it was Bail's voice in your ear, "may the force be with you." But as he locked eyes with you, you flashed him a knowing smile. Omega was safe, and now it didn't matter what happened.
He howled in frustration and pulled a contraption of his back, he nodded to Krennick and Crosshair before leading both of them into the battle. He pressed a button on the contraption and two bright red sabers ignited on either side.
You stared in horror as your soldiers looked in fear before meeting a final blow upon the blades. You ran towards the Inquisitor, the light from your ignited blade filling the room to meet the red glow of his. As you got closer, you crashed into the arms of Hunter, pulling you back, "No, (Y/N), we have to fall back!"
You pulled against his arms, "we have to hold them here," you argued, "let me go!"
Hunter did not waiver, "you said yourself there is no knowing his power."
You finally broke free of his arms, pushing him off of you, "I am the only one that has a chance, you know that."
He shook his head, but you interrupted, "I can defeat him, his pride will be his death."
Without waiting for a response you ran towards him again. The Inquisitor was standing over a frightened young woman, her gun knocked from her hands. He raised his saber, but as he brought it down, you lunged in, using your saber to block his blow. It took all your strength to stop his momentum, the clashed sabers hung a few inches from the woman's body. "Run!" you shouted to her.
You used the rest of your strength to pull the blow up and push the inquisitor back a few feet from you.
He smiled, "I wondered if I would have the pleasure of defeating you."
"Can't say the pleasure is mine," you retorted, "but I know what you want."
He stood up again, amusement on his face, "and what is that?"
"Me," you replied, "the last Jedi in the galaxy. There is no need to harm everyone else."
The inquisitor laughed, "are you challenging me to an ancient duel? I have not had an opponent request that since the days of the old republic."
You nodded, "call off your troopers and you can have your duel."
The Inquisitor smiled and raised his hand to command a cease fire. You nodded to your soldiers who now looked at you in confusion. The inquisitor then walked over to Crosshair and Sergeant Major Krennick, whispering in their ears.
You also retreated to the gathering groups of rebels, the batch shaking their heads at you. "You knew it had to be done, we completed our mission, now I am just trying to save you all," you whispered to them.
Without words they wrapped you in a hug, this would be your most difficult opponent, a sith against a jedi, an enemy you have never faced before.
You walked towards the middle of the battlefield, circles of rebels and troopers stood across from each other, forming a middle ground where you now stood. You waited for the Grand Inquisitor to approach you. He was still out of earshot as he whispered to Krennick again, "win or lose, after this, I want you to kill them all."
He then approached you, standing a few feet away gripping his duel bladed saber. He ignited it, letting the red glow ignite his face in a menacing gesture.
You chuckled with no fear, gripping your saber in one hand and the darksaber in the other, igniting both and letting your own smile reflect his.
"A most amusing choice of weapons," he noted, "the weapons made to kill Jedi, wielded by one."
You snickered, "you'll find I'm full of surprises." You lunged, catching him by surprise, slashing with both sabers, backing him up with your flurry of offense.
He finally stopped your momentum, blades clashing inches from both of your faces, "let's see what your made of...Jedi."
