I heard the lyrics and got inspired....figured I could use a little sweet to prepare myself for monday's angst. 😅

"I'm serious, Spencer. I'm not going. I can't even look at you right now." Throwing her tenth outfit choice back onto their bed, Olivia stomped away to their bathroom. Her eyes shooting daggers as she passed him as he leaned against the doorframe. He was trying very hard to be understanding and apologetic but they had a ceremony to get to and she was holding them up.

"Baby, I said I was sorry. I didn't think it was a big deal. I wouldn't have done it and if I could go back and change it, I would." He defended but was met with another glare. She was at least moving and putting earrings on as she "refused to get ready for a night out with a traitor". Her words, not his.

"It is a big deal. A very big deal. I always thought I could trust you but apparently not." Not wanting to mess up her make-up, Olivia slowly took off the oversized South Crenshaw t-shirt she was wearing and pulled another dress out, her large bump becoming exposed. Feeling his eyes looking her up and down and remaining on the ass that had grown as a result of the pregnancy weight, she turned and raised an eyebrow at Spencer. He just continued to stare in awe. 29 weeks pregnant with twins, she was nearing a stage of pregnancy where everything was uncomfortable and any minor inconvenience was life-altering but he still couldn't help but feel a sense of amazement at her strength and beauty as she carried life. Life they had made together.

Pulling the dress up, she walked back to him so he could zip her up. "I mean after being married so long, I would think you knew me best", she huffed out.

"Liv. Baby. Love of my life. It was one ice cream bar." He sighed out. After forty-five minutes of the back and forth, he finally decided that this was getting a little out of hand. He was being awarded for his performance in the pro-bowl and the night had been planned for weeks. He hadn't counted on setting off a bomb by eating an ice cream bar that she had been saving. When she discovered it, all hell had broken loose and she stalled in getting ready until the very last minute as Spencer tried to remain patient through it all. He loved his wife dearly but clearly timely attendance was not a strong Baker trait.

"It was mine! And it was the last one. If you didn't want me to get mad, then maybe you shouldn't have eaten it. Or better yet, maybe you should've thought about this 7 months ago when you decided to inseminate me, sir. Then we wouldn't have this problem and I wouldn't be here with a huge belly, not able to fit any of my clothes and no ice cream." She threw her hands up in exasperation.

"I can always get you more after the ceremony. And the dress fits perfectly and you look amazing." He offered sweetly and sincerely as he pecked her cheek, trying to ease the situation and move her along.

"Better than those skinny, fake perky cheerleaders?" she said with a slight pout, scrunching her eyebrows.

"Better than those skinny cheerleaders. You already know you're the baddest." He reassured a now dressed Liv.

"Thank you" she whispered, pecking his lips softly. "I'm still mad at you though. I expect two boxes instead of one."

"You the boss" he smirked as she interlaced their hands and led them out.

Getting to the ceremony, they couldn't help but slowly ease into the atmosphere. They were homebodies to their cores and enjoyed each other's company more than anybody elses in the world but they had to admit, it was nice to have a reason to dress up and enjoy time out together.

The night continued, and amongst a bunch of famous athletes and other sports figures, they leaned into each other and cheered as people they had built good relationships with went up on stage to accept awards. Though after a little while they were counting down the minutes until they could leave, it was nearing Spencer's turn and the anticipation grew. They had been here before but each time still felt like the first time all over again.

Sitting in their seats, Olivia turned to her husband and smiled. "Hey, I'm proud of you. You deserve this win"

Kissing her cheek, he hummed a quiet "thank you" and squeezed her thigh and stared into her eyes. Just as their moment was interrupted by the announcer sending the ceremony to commercial break, Olivia tapped his leg to regain his attention. "I'm gonna run to the bathroom so I don't miss anything", pulling her chair out and reaching for her hand, Spencer helped her to her feet and nodded.

After a few minutes, the announcer started up again and Spencer's nerves re-started. Olivia still hadn't returned and he was nervous that she would miss it. His eyes scanned the room continuously, semi-listening to the announcer.

"And for this year's Best Performance Award, we have a special guest to present the award to LA Rams wide-receiver Spencer James. Please welcome to the stage LA Tribune editor, Olivia Baker-James." Snapping his head away from the side of the room and back to the stage, Spencer's face lit up as he saw his wife make her way from the side of the to the podium.

Meeting his gaze and winking, Olivia took a breath and then cleared her throat. "It's not often these days that I get to speak directly to a captive audience that isn't under the age of 8 and who don't call me mom so please bear with me " she joked, earning a light laugh from the audience. "Many know Spencer James for the incredible athlete he is. The countless hours spent bringing wins to the Rams organization. Many know him from the work he does to give back to his community and the pride he has for the place that raised him, all without ever asking for acknowledgement. I know him for the way he calls his mom each Sunday morning before his games. I know him for the way he sings Al Green off key because he knows it makes me laugh. I know him for the way he plays dolls with our little girl and the way he spends every Saturday morning coaching our baby boy's pee-wee league. I know him for being the very best father and husband that anyone could have. I know him for the way he looks at me even when I am complaining about him eating the last ice cream bar. Though tonight we honor him for his efforts on the field, I would be remiss to not mention how well deserved it is. It is a small part of the quiet strength and force that makes my husband the man he is. We should all be so lucky to have a Spencer James in our life and the incredible gift that he is. So, without further delay, this year's Best Performance award goes to my number 11, Spencer James." Finishing by blowing a kiss before waving him up, Olivia grabbed the award and held it as Spencer jogged up the stairs and made his way to her.

Wrapping his arms around her and hugging her tightly, he pulled away and held his pinky out before she locked hers and they kissed their hands. Spencer walked over to the podium and cleared his throat, trying to gain composure from the tears that threatened to escape.

"I don't think this will ever really feel real. I started this whole journey a long time ago as just a little boy who wanted to play ball and it led to things beyond my wildest dreams. To the NFL and Rams organization, and my guys, thank you for letting me play for the city that built me. To my mom, thank you for believing in me and being the foundation of what it means to dream. I cant repay you for the sacrifices you made but hopefully, this helps" he chuckled before continuing. "To my family: my brothers Dillon and Jordan, thank you for making me always strive to be a better player and man through your support and example. Thank you Coach and Mrs. Baker for giving me a shot and being there. Thank you to my amazing kids, Madelyn, Isaiah and the two babies my incredible wife is carrying, Dad loves you and will always be there for you. You are my reason for everything and the motivation I use to go hard on that field. And last but far from least thank you to my best friend and the reason this all works- my beautiful wife, Olivia. Liv, I wouldn't be the man I am or be able to do what I do without you. From day one, you have had my back and made me a better person. This is as much your award as it is mine. I can give the performance I do because you hold us all down. I love you. Thank you everyone, enjoy your night." He smiled as he turned and saw Olivia screaming and cheering before he walked over and reached for her hand. Walking them back to their seats, he couldn't help but squint his eyes at her.

"What?" she questioned, the blush she was failing to hide coming out full force.

"You're incredible." He said, his tone laced in awe as it had been all night.

Leaning in to steal another kiss, she whispered against his lips "I'm only as good as my teammate." Pulling back and rubbing his head she kept her eyes locked with his. " And I still want my ice cream."

Shaking his head, he couldn't help but appreciateher. "I got you" he laughed as they turned back to enjoy the remainder of theceremony.
