A/N: Once again: cringing and not sure what took over me but I heard this song for the first time in a minute and welllll.....here we are! Like I said: cringingokaybye! Happy New Year!
The morning light came through the curtains of the bedroom, causing Olivia to stir in her sleep. Feeling an arm tighten around her waist, she peeked over shoulder, being met with Spencer's still closed eyes and hearing his light snores. She couldn't help but let out a wide smile. The smile on her face was one that was hard won. She couldn't help it most days and it felt damn good. Thinking back to her journey the past two years, she couldn't help but feel like it was all worth it. The chaos, heartache and struggles all came with the ultimate pay off- true happiness.
Happiness in her sobriety and choice of sponsor. Though Olivia knew that Nurse Joy wouldn't ever say it out loud, the pride she saw in her sponsor's eyes when they met for their weekly check-ins and talked about her recovery process, spoke volumes, and made her feel a sense of her own pride. Happiness in her decision on a Communications major for school and how well the podcast was doing. Writing and speaking out provided a much needed release and outlet for the connection to things outside of the L.A. fluff that she'd long felt disconnected from. Happiness in her relationship with Spencer. In their time together, she had never felt more cared for, loved and seen then she had in her almost 20 years on the planet. He made loving him so easy and made her feel that she was just as easy to love. A welcomed and appreciated change from past relationships. He was truly her best friend, and that's why she was so excited for today.
It was their two year anniversary and she had a sneaking suspicion that it was going to be amazing. Though the pair had agreed to keep things low key when they originally talked about it a while back, she knew her boyfriend and knew he never did things low key when it came to those he loved. It was just one of the reasons why she was so excited to surprise him with her gift. Not as much as the romantic that Spencer James was, Olivia had learned a few things in their time together. In being with him, that part of her so effortlessly opened, that the idea came almost naturally. Their day would still be filled as they had classes and the team had practice but she knew that they had a two hour break between that aligned. A purposeful part of their schedules that they made sure to include every semester as a way to still get quality time in. With that in mind, she knew that they would have more than enough time for a midday gift exchange. Knowing that he was a huge Rams fan and after practically harassing her dad for months for his contacts, she was able to score an autographed jersey from their wide receiver who happened to be one of his favorite players. Planning to pair that with a more, personal purchase of new lingerie that was his favorite color on her to celebrate with another one of his favorite activities, she felt that she had nailed the whole low-key but thoughtful gift thing.
She herself had spent weeks dropping hints about possible gifts she'd like and though Spencer played it cool, she couldn't help but feel that he had some sort of trick up his sleeve for tonight. Her mind racing with what it could possibly be, Olivia allowed herself to dream a little more. She could practically feel the excitement tingling through her body. Was this what it was always going to be like? She had sure hoped so.
Feeling his other arm reach around and small pecks on her shoulder, Olivia was brought out of her thoughts.
"Good morning" she said quietly, turning to him with a small smile.
"Good morning" he let out in the deep morning voice that still managed to make her breath hitch. "It's gonna be a good day" he smiled at her.
"Yes, it is." She pecked his lips. "I know you have practice tonight so we can't really celebrate until after but make sure you come straight home on break. I have something up my sleeve for you, James." Tracing her fingers over his chest, she couldn't help but feel a little thrown off when she met his eyes and saw a confused look come over his face. "What?" she questioned.
