"Olivia, I'm gonna have to ask you to wait for your friend in the waiting room."
"His name is Spencer, and I can't leave him. He needs me"
"Olivia, we both want the same thing, but I cannot assess Spencer's wounds until you let us go."
"No! No! Spencer!"
"Olivia!"
The flashbacks sent chills down Olivia's spine. It wasn't the first time they were in this hospital. At one point, she cracked that they would end up needing validated parking passes soon. Her husband didn't find her joke as funny as she did.
Though this time was different, it was always unsettling being in this place. The bare white walls, uncomfortable chairs and heavy energy always weighing on her heart and reminding her of the time she almost lost her best friend. It never really got easier.
She was jolted out of her thoughts when she felt a hand shaking her knee."Liv, did you hear me? The doctor is coming over so it must be good news" Simone said in a hopeful tone.
"Yeah. They're probably coming to tell you he's awake and the tests came back fine" patience added trying to help her clearly shaken up friend.
Before Olivia could even respond, the doctor and a nurse came over to the trio with unreadable expressions.
Certainly no Nurse Joy, she thought bitterly. She took a breath as the trio all stood up the doctor finally stopped in front of them.
"Mrs. James? I'm Dr. Phillips and this is Patty, the nurse who helped me with your husband when he first came in. We wanted to update you-"
"Is he awake? I mean is he okay? Can I see him? I just wanna make sure- " she cut him off as her thoughts came out at rapid speed.
"He's okay. We wanted to come and let you know that he took a pretty hard hit but his scans are showing no signs of a possible concussion and he is looking at just a few bruised ribs." The doctor got out. Liv's eyes closed as she took another deep breath. "Taking it easy and resting, he should be looking at 3-4 weeks of recovery. That means no practice or strenuous physical activity until then. He is still sleeping but you're more than welcome to make your way over to his room. He was brought into room 321B." Olivia's heart finally felt like it had returned to a normal rate.
"Thank you so much." Liv said through another sigh of relief. The doctor and nurse nodded and walked away leaving the girls to themselves.
"See, I told you it'd be okay. These things are always scary but these guys take hits for a living. Plus, Spencer's come back from a hell of a lot worse." Simone tried to remind Liv. Though it was appreciated, the nerves were just starting to settle and it didn't do much. She needed to see him."Yeah. You're right. That hit was just so crazy. I really thought I lost him or that it was so much worse. I just can't deal with him in this position." Her voice shook as her head thought back to hours before at the game.
"With the Rams just barely trailing ahead of the Cardinals and a score of 21-14, it looks like it may be on wide receiver extraordinaire Spencer James to bring this home. Rams have the ball and Simmons has the perfect clearance as James waits near the end zone" the announcer continued.
"Let's go, baby! You got this!" Liv shouted with a wide grin.
"Girl, if you would have told me that you'd be a football fanatic when we met way back when- I'd probably laugh in your face. Coach's daughter or not." Patience joked.
