Thinking fast, the brunette responded easily. "Not if you can't catch me..!" He said breathlessly, staring up at the other, a wide challenging grin accentuating his mischievous features alongside his eyeliner and freckles.
He was so gorgeous...
Before the older male could react the chameleon had darted away, easily weaving his way into the crowd to lose the other, with Mariano quickly tailing him.
The shifter was swift and tricky with his transformations, as Mariano knew, however he could never disguise himself well enough to properly fool the older male.
With every random stranger that he turned into, the other seemed to immediately pinpoint his own distinctive traits from his borrowed form; particularly his charming smile, that he could only hide so well, as well as his eyes...
Those brilliant golden brown eyes, the ones Mariano had fallen in love with...
He would recognize them anywhere... no matter what colour the shifter pulled over them...
After a few failures to hide from the other, with his cover being blown each time he looked at the other male, Camilo devised a new tactic; avoiding eye contact with the man entirely.
Which worked for a moment...
But only for a moment.
As soon as Mariano realized that he needed to adapt to this change he began to scan the crowd for familiar mannerisms instead...
A subtle tilt of the head during conversation, a soft half-smile in response to a compliment or even the other's stance, with his hip traditionally cocked to one side, were identifying factors.
Mariano however, eventually noticed a particular dark-haired girl amongst the partygoers, when she giggled loudly during a conversation, catching his attention with the sound. That laugh.
He attempted to race over to the group before the chameleon recognized his slip up and escaped; his ambush failed however when the girl looked directly at him.
The Madrigal had quickly observed him approaching with that familiar sensitive gaze of his, excusing himself and racing off, most likely changing along his way.
It went on like this for some time, with both parties thoroughly enjoying themselves in their game, until the older male finally ran the brunette down, pulling the out of breath boy closer and into a slow dance that matched the music.
The shifter's squeals of laughter at being caught were cut off as Mariano gently caught his mouth with his own, turning his head to slightly deepen the kiss causing the chameleon's lips to vibrate as he moaned quietly into their shared space, eyes fluttering closed.
He had missed his touch...
Camilo was the first to break the kiss, pulling away slightly, before Mariano's wandering hands could find their way inside his dress, in order to bring them both back to reality.
Right. Party. Public space.
They swayed there for a moment, simply appreciating each other's embrace as they were rejoined together again...
Mariano found himself being reminded of their first dance together, though the shifter had been disguised as Isabela at the time, before the chameleon's next question caused him to surface from his thoughts.
"So how did you know it was me?" The brunette asked, voice still a breathless whisper; arms finding their place around the other's throat as he spoke, the velvet sleeves adorning them tickling the other male's shoulders, though he didn't care enough to mind.
"I'd know you anywhere." Mariano whispered in turn, suddenly struck by the idea that this was his time; and he knew, in his heart, that he had to go through with it now or never...
Dropping to a single knee in a moment that he would always remember, the shifter's own gasp paired with those of nearby guests, noticing and drawing more attention to the spectacle currently occurring.
Mariano didn't mind, so long as they didn't interrupt his angel's special moment...
Clearing his throat and pulling a small velvet box out, as the entire room went mostly quiet in anticipation of his words, Mariano breathed before beginning his speech.
"Mi vida... you are my light, my love, my life." He whispered, noticing the tears in the others gaze when he took his left hand gently as he continued.
"You are the only one I have ever truly noticed..." he whispered. "And that is because you are the only one I was ever truly meant to notice..." he finished before asking the impending question.
"Camilo Felix Madrigal, will you marry me?" He asked, opening the box to reveal a beautiful golden ring shaped like a curled chameleon, with the eyes being diamonds, and intricate sun engravings etched along the sides.
After a beat of silence, during which the chameleon had still been frozen in shock, the shapeshifter had snapped out of it, nodding rapidly.
"YES! Yes! A million times over!" He grinned, tears of happiness cascading down his face as Mariano tenderly slid the ring onto the finger of his held hand.
Once the older male had risen from his kneeling position the brunette had wasted no time in pulling him close and kissing him deeply for the third time that night as a chorus of cheers and 'awws' rang out from the crowd.
Confetti flower petals rained down through the air, no doubt the work of Isabela, as the party continued, now with a much more vibrant celebration occurring as the night now marked something far more momentous than a simple welcoming party.
As members from both families eagerly approached, in order to congratulate the two fiancés, Mariano found himself roped right back into another kiss as soon as the first one was broken for breath. Grinning internally at the shifter's loving behaviour...
He could get used to this...
