ch. 50: bonus + a/n

miyeon began working as a model again. she was currently at a photoshoot, and her partner, yohan, showed up just on time. he was a new model, but they clicked immediately.

he was always respectful but funny, and he had only a few red flags, like putting milk before cereal.

now, his green flags–god, she could go on forever. he bought the staff food and drinks, always called his parents and checked up on them, and did volunteer work all the time. last week, he had been talking to her about how he hoped to get as famous as her, so that he could spoil his mom. he also loved to read, and he would often tell miyeon about his latest read.

he treated her well without any strings. yesterday for example, he bought her some of her favorite foods, remembering an old conversation between them. and always, always, always, he respected her body.

they usually had intimate photoshoots, and he would always talk to the director ahead of time to get some idea of what they were doing so he could ask miyeon for permission to touch her. if she was uncomfortable, he argued with the director and staff to make a change and suggest an even better idea.

today, they had a photoshoot where they'd be promoting swimwear. it was going to be on a bed, with them acting like a couple.

oh, how i wish, she thought, as they stared into each other's eyes and cameras went off.

"good!" the director complimented. "can yohan please wrap a hand around miyeon's waist?"

yohan looked at her for silent permission and she nodded. he gently placed his hand on her back, and the photoshoto finished before she could even remember this was a job.

"miyeon?" yohan asked, coming to the makeup room she was at. she was removing her makeup, and he covered his eyes as if she was naked.

"you can look," she laughed.

his eyes fluttered open and he met her eyes in the mirror. "c-can..." he stuttered, "i take you on a date tomorrow? if you're free?"

her heart leaped in happiness. finally!

she was taking too long to answer and he panicked. "you don't have to!"

"no," she said calmly, "i'll go."

"yes!" he pumped a fist but then remembered she was watching. "er–thank you, miyeon."

the next day, they went on their date, and it was everything she expected it to be and more. he paid for everything despite her pleas, and continuously checked up on how she was feeling.

"can we hold hands?" he asked shyly.

she blushed. "oh um–"

he panicked just like yesterday in the makeup room. "it's okay if you don't! it's fine! don't worry!"

she laughed and grabbed his hand. getting on her tippy-toes, she kissed his cheek and walked away, letting go of his hand.

he stood there frozen, bright red.

"aren't you gonna follow?" she called behind her. he quickly caught up and grabbed her hand again, and she turned to beam at him.

"god, i like you so much. don't disappoint me."

"yes ma'am!" he said.

and she knew, then and there, that he would be the one to brighten her days and nights.

AUTHOR'S NOTE:

i literally cannot believe that lightbulb is over. it's my first large and serious book, and now the final words are written.

throughout writing this, i went through a lot of mental issues and had many ups and downs. sometimes, i would get close to deleting this story completely and other times, i would write five whole chapters in a week. i also watched my writing grow and my dedication go on a rollercoaster. i changed the plot four different times and sometimes deleted an entire chapter or six.

writing this story, i incorporated a lot of what i had been through and what i had heard about. there were many times where the story got dark, and i wondered, is this going too far? are there too many ugly details? but i wrote them anyway, and i don't regret it. i wanted real exposure for mental illnesses.
