It's not amazing, but at least it's an update 😅

It felt like everything went in slow motion for Charlie when he got to the school gates; like the world had just stopped turning. What could have only been a second felt like hours as he stared at the two of them.

Nick had his hand on the wall, leaning over a girl Charlie hadn't seen before. She was looking up at him as if he was the most beautiful thing in the world. He really was, but she wasn't allowed to think that. Nick should only have eyes for Charlie; well, that's the way Charlie felt. Whether Nick felt that way too was a different story.

It wasn't the jealousy that was the worst feeling for Charlie; it was the fact they looked so happy together. Like they were actually meant for each other and Charlie was just kidding himself into believing that Nick liked him.

His heart sank a little bit more as he thought about how right his friend, Tao had been when he told him that Nick was straight. Seeing Nick and that girl together now made Charlie realise how stupid he had been to hang on to the hope that Nick might like him back.

"Told you" Tao's smug voice came from behind Charlie as he watched the same scene as Charlie.
"Shut up!" Charlie forced a smile and carried on walking with Tao into the school, "It could be nothing"
"That didn't look like nothing" Tao scoffed and Charlie had to just sigh in agreement. Tao was right, there was definitely something going on between them.

As Charlie walked into Form his thoughts were getting darker and darker. Telling him that he was stupid to think Nick liked him in that way and that they were just friends. That he should be lucky to even call Nick a friend... was he Charlie's friend or was he just nice to him?

"Hi" Nick said cheerfully, cutting through Charlie's thoughts like a knife through butter
As much as Charlie wanted to pretend everything was alright, like Nick had, he couldn't so chose to ignored Nick and continued to look straight ahead as if he wasn't there which was difficult to do. His smile was one of Charlie's most favourite things in the world.
"What's up?" Nick asked, concern evident in his voice
Silence.
"Charlie!" Nick waved his hand in front Charlie's face and he couldn't ignore him any longer.
"What?"
"Why are you ignoring me?" Nick was smiling slightly, but Charlie could see a hint of something in his eyes. Like he was actually hurt that Charlie was ignoring him, which Charlie thought was selfish. He was hurt that Nick hadn't told him about his girlfriend.
So Charlie answered Nick's question with a question, "Why didn't you tell me you had a girlfriend?"
"Wh- I-I don't" Nick stammered
"Who was that girl you were with at the gates then?" Charlie pressed on. He wasn't usually the type to, but he wanted to know. He wanted to hear a confession.
"Oh, that's Bella" Nick shook his head in relief, "She's a friend"
"Didn't look like a friend" Charlie muttered and looked away. He couldn't stand people lying to him.
"Charlie!" Nick grabbed his arm in an effort to make Charlie look at him again, which he did. Only it was mostly because of the shock of his touch, "She wanted me to act like her boyfriend to get Harry off her back. He's been a proper dick recently"
"Oh" Is all Charlie managed to say. He felt stupid again.
"I don't like her in that way at all. I've known her since we were like two" Nick continued, "Glad it looked convincing though, hopefully Harry saw. I'd rather him come for me than Bella"
Charlie smiled at that. Nick always stuck up for the people he cared about.

As the two of them went their separate ways for their first lessons, Charlie couldn't help but replay Nick's arm grab in his head. It was like Nick really wanted Charlie to believe him when he said Bella was just a friend. That he didn't have a girlfriend. Why did he care so much about Charlie knowing that? He knew what he wanted the answer to be.
