Idea from Anoukxyz - I hope you like this! Sorry it's kinda short

All of Nick's things were packed up into boxes and bags, ready for him to leave the following day. Charlie knew that saying goodbye was going to be awful; even if he knew that it wouldn't be forever.

To make the day as perfect as it could be, Nick's mum had agreed to take the couple to the beach. It was where they'd had their first proper date and they wanted to go back for old time sake.

Being late July, the weather was perfect. Not a cloud in the sky, but a gentle breeze which was perfect beach weather. They had the best day together; running around the beach being kids again and holding hands as they walked through the arcade.

"Do you remember this?!" Charlie had said, letting go of Nick's hand to run over to the photo booth. It was the same one they had been in three years before and it would be rude not to go in again.

By the time the sun was setting they were tired, but so happy to be in each other's arms on the beach. It was still warm out and the beach had emptied out as the day had gone on so now they were some of the only people left. Sharing a portion of chips and just taking in the scenery and how bittersweet it was.

"You're sure there's not a uni closer that you can go to?" Charlie asked after a few minutes of content silence. He was staring out at the sea and avoiding looking at Nick because he didn't want him to pick up on how serious he was.

As much as Charlie wanted Nick to go to university, he didn't want anything to change and he certainly didn't want so much space between them.

"You know it's the only place that does what I want to do" Nick laughed
"They do basically the same thing in Brighton" Charlie countered, still staring ahead at the waves
"You know that's not true" Nick shot back a bit too harshly.

The truth was he was getting a bit fed up with Charlie's reluctance for him to go. Didn't he want his boyfriend to do well and better himself? This was a huge step for him and he wanted his boyfriend's support, not for him to be wishing him not to go.

Charlie sighed, "I guess I've never been a lucky person, if I was you wouldn't have to go so far" He finally glanced over at Nick, "I could win the lottery if I was that lucky"
"What?" Nick scoffed, "You want to win the lottery?" He was genuinely confused
"No!" Charlie laughed now, sensing the sad moment had gone, "I just mean, if I was that lucky that you didn't have to go so far away, I'd have so much luck I could win the lottery"
Nick shook his head and laughed, "You do talk some shit"
Charlie shoved Nick slightly, "You know what I mean!"
"Let's get scratch cards then" Nick offered, raising his eyebrows, "If you win, you can have it your way and I'll stay here but if I win then I go"
Charlie furrowed his eyebrows and then cracked a smile, "Alright then"

So they both got up off the beach and went to the nearest corner shop to buy scratchcards. It was completely random and silly, but they didn't care. It was funny and they wanted to make the most out of every moment they had together.

Once they got them they didn't bother going back down to the beach and they just sat on the bench just outside the shop.

"So if I win, you stay?" Charlie repeated the conditions
"Yep"
"You wouldn't-"
Nick shrugged, "A bet's a bet"

They were silent for a couple of minutes while they scratched away the boxes. Nick was resting his on his knee and had a two pence piece in his hand to scratch the silver off. As Charlie started to scratch the mystery box he noticed he'd won £5 and smiled to himself.

"Hey, what's that over there?!" Charlie nudged Nick and he immediately looked up to where Charlie was gesturing. Charlie took the opportunity to swap his winning ticket with Nick's, he did it quickly and Nick hadn't noticed.

"Oh, don't worry - I thought I saw something" Charlie dismissed, pretending to go back to his card which hadn't won anything.

"Ha! Looks like I'm going!" Nick suddenly called out, clearly elated at his winning scratch card
"And I can't stop you" Charlie added, holding out his scratch card that hadn't won anything.

They didn't say anything else about it until Charlie was snuggled up to Nick in Nick's living room watching a film. They had been silent for almost a whole hour when Nick randomly said, "You swapped them, didn't you?" His voice was quiet
"What?" Charlie turned to look up at Nick, genuinely confused as to what he was talking about
"You swapped the scratch cards" Nick said matter of factly and Charlie couldn't help but smirk
"No!" He protested unconvincingly
"You're so cute" Nick leaned in to kiss him

Sorry I've not been that active, I've not had the motivation/ inspiration to write tbh and I'm not too happy with these last couple but it's something. Hope you're all okay x
