Ben comes out to you

Also, I haven't really done this to the true timeline of Heartstopper

You sat next to Ben in English and over the last couple of weeks you'd grown so sick of him shit talking about Nick and Charlie. You were happy for them. To be fair, you'd known for ages that they were together, but they'd only just come out to the school. They looked so happy together and although you didn't know either of them that well, you were a sucker for a good romance.

"Why can't you just be happy for them?" You asked once Ben was done whining, but he just made a disapproving noise in response.

"I'm so sick of you talking shit about them" You snap, "What is your problem? Are you jealous or something?"

Ben didn't say anything and quickly looked down at his book when the teacher came walking around.

It was another couple of weeks before you started to realise that maybe Ben was actually jealous. You could definitely sense that there was something he wasn't telling you. To be fair, you were an empath and could sense the wall he was holding up.

Other than apparently disagreeing about Nick and Charlie, the two of you seemed to get on fairly well. You couldn't put your finger on it, but you found him funny and there was something about you two that just clicked.

"You haven't spoken about Nick and Charlie for a while" Your randomly brought up one English lesson after you'd both just finished laughing about something stupid that had happened in Science.

"Do you miss me moaning about them?" Ben smirked, "Because I can if you want- augh!" He suddenly threw his pen down on his book.

"Benjamin!" Your teacher called across the classroom.
"Sorry"

You watched with your eyebrows furrowed, "What?"
"I don't understand all this stuff about Shakespeare, I mean what does this even mean - abhor?" He pointed at the word in the play's script you were sharing.

"It means like rejection - to reject something" You state matter of factly and Ben just rolls his eyes which made you laugh.

"It's honestly not that bad once you understand"
Ben rolled his eyes again and you laughed. "Which question are you answering?"

For some reason, you didn't struggle with English at all, it seemed to come fairly naturally to you, but Ben struggled. You had a feeling that's why the teacher sat you two together in the first place.

After helping Ben plan his answer to his question, you started working on your own work again.

"Would you help me revise for this?" Ben asked you slightly quietly as if he didn't want anyone else to hear him.
"Only if you help me with science" You smirk slightly
"Deal"

You agreed to go to Ben's house after school and you met just outside the school.

"I can't fail English, my parents will kill me!" Ben complained almost the entire way to his house.

Over the months of sitting together in English you'd come to learn that Ben was quite insecure. Not in the 'I'm ugly' sort of way, but he doubted himself a lot and he cared a lot about not letting his parents down. He never admitted, of course, but you could tell it was important to him.

After an awkward hello to his mum, Ben showed you to his room which was surprisingly tidy and well kept. Ben never struck you as someone that would have a neat and tidy room, but he did. Everything was in its place; all the books on his bookshelf, all the pens in a pot on his desk. There wasn't any clutter anywhere.
