I'm so sorry this took me so long! I've been proper burnt out from work all week and just couldn't write, I did try looool. Anyways, here it is. Big thank you to Wrappedbubbleslol for the idea for P2 of this - I didn't do the complete thing, but I think it ends quite nicely.
It's been a little over a month since Ben came out to Harry. Well, he didn't really say anything, Harry did all the talking. True to his word though, Harry hadn't acted any different and it seemed he was actually making an effort to pretend it hadn't happened.
Not that it seemed to bother Ben, he was just happy that he didn't have this big secret weighing on his chest.
"Look, it's not my fault - my mum invited him without me knowing" Harry was telling the group and only Ben knew that wasn't true.
Harry had asked his mum to invite Nick and Charlie to his birthday party although Ben wasn't really sure why. He knew Nick and Harry were friends when they were younger, but they definitely didn't act like they were friends now.
Either way, Ben didn't mind - it meant he could hopefully speak to Charlie and at least try to apologise about how shitty he'd been to him. Now that he's started to accept himself, he's realising how badly he treated Charlie. Sneaking around and making Charlie feel worthless. It wasn't fair and he wanted to at least apologise.
Harry's birthday rolls around quickly and, just like every year, the Greene's make sure their precious boy gets everything he wants. Which, just like every year, is a big fuck off party.
"Why did you tell everyone you didn't invite Nick and Charlie?" Ben asks, trying to sound as casual as possible. They were at Harry's early getting ready along with some of Harry's other friends.
"What?" Harry scoffed, checking himself out in the mirror as he buttoned up his shirt.
There was something about the way Harry sounded that made Ben not pursue the matter. Harry clearly didn't want to talk about it and he didn't want to get him in a mood before his party. That could be a nightmare. But the encounter made Ben feel on edge until they got to the venue. Then he thankfully started to loosen up a bit; the vodka and coke probably helped.
A couple of hours passed before Ben found Charlie and he was luckily on his own. Standing at the bottom of the stairs that lead up to more function rooms.
Somehow, the Greene's always hired somewhere for Harry's parties. Probably didn't want to get their own house wrecked by drunk teenagers.
With another sip of vodka and coke, Ben approached Charlie who was looking a little lost without Nick at his side. Which made Ben feel bad for him. It's not nice to be at a party and hardly know anyone.
"Hey, it's good to see you here!" Ben said probably a little too cheerfully and he watched as Charlie's face dropped. He actually looked a bit scared which made Ben's heart sink.
"What do you want?" Charlie said, his eyes slightly narrowing, trying to seem less bothered by their encounter than he was.
"Just thought I'd come and say hello" Ben put his hand up in surrender and then took another big mouthful of his vodka and coke. He needed to turn this around."Well, I came to apologise really" He dropped his eyes now and started fiddling with his cup, turning it around and around in his hands.
"What?" Charlie scoffed and he sounded just like Harry had earlier which wasn't helping his nerves.
Ben sighed in frustration, realising there was a lot to catch Charlie up on."Can we go sit over there?" Ben gestured to a chaise longue on the opposite side to the stairs.
"You've got two minutes" Charlie said flatly, walking over to the seat.
